Abhiram Rao lol chainsmokers have like one of the worst albums out there, yet they're criticising other artists. At least Lorde had some artistic integrity when she criticised 1D's kiddie nananana-lalallala infested music.
The chainsmokers are trash, but honestly the missy elliott one could just be a chopped, screwed sample. So you can't really criticize that part and also stick up for the artistic merit of sampling in music.
Holy crap! I was looking for a video on RUclips to see if anyone else noticed that the beat in "don't let me down" sounds like "get your freak on". Nice!
This kind of phenomena has been happening for ages. There are only so many notes / arrangements, and only so many best patterns. Eventually songs start to blur when you drill down enough.
Ok I agree with the other ones but I highly doubt that the chainsmokers would make a song based off the avocado song!! Could be possible but I don’t believe it. It also doesn’t sound the same.
Ok so let's think about something here! Do you think the edm genre or any other genre has been around forever? Nope so producers are all copying each other, and I hardly doubt the chainsmokers are sitting listening to peel the banana
This is called sampling. A lot of artist are doing it. I don't like the fact that people call it 'talent less' i think there sound is very unique. Drake & Rihanna are also sampling other artist. I think you can still be creative even tho you're sampling. That is just my opinion. The last one is kinda funny tho lmoa No hate
LittleBassMaster The thing is if it was a sample (as in directly sampled from another track) it would be more obvious that the melody came from elsewhere and it is usually a conscious stylistic decision rather than presented as something new with the source material glossed over. I love Kanye West's use of samples or interpolations as he always re-works them into something with a totally new feel and meaning, so like you I acknowledge sampling can indeed be a positive thing, putting a new spin on old songs. This Chainsmokers song was an example of interpolation; although I know there is nothing new under the sun, similarities will always accidentally crop up in music, art, literature etc and people are free to take influence from artists they admire or the public domain, I just hope people are honest about their influences, re-work it well into something vaguely original and give credit where it is due. They did eventually (to The Fray) and I like both their songs as very different tracks in their own right that happen to share a melody. I've got to say when shit like this happens it makes for a) a fun journey through musical history to find links between seemingly unconnected songs and b) some really fucking awesome mashups.
Sampling isn't copying a melody or rhythm. Sampling is taking a few second of the original recording and re-using it. And sampling laws require you to include the original artists of the samples in the credits to the song, even if the sample you used was a kick or a clap from a song. On top of that the sound of Chainsmokers isn't exactly unique, what they did was take the concept of Future Bass which has been around for years already as a sidespin of "melodic dubstep", and slap pop vocals on it. And truth be told, sampling isn't the crime here. Sampling without credits is. Neither is copying melodies, but copying without a co-write credit is.
Pls look up Let Me Down Slowly by Alec Benjamin... it’s like I’ve heard it before. But I couldn’t figure out what song. The tune n melody is similar to something out there... 🤔
Their song 'Paris' sounds like M83 -Midnight city AND the song 'Don't let me down' is apparently a sample of a 2011 German rap song “Poesie Album” PLEASE DO A MASH-UP OF THESE EXAMPLES. chainsmokers seems shady....
Sorry you're not very musically inclined. No offense at all though, but Chainsmokers is simple ass music. Theres only 2 to 3 notes in a beat and a halfs time which is y it can sound like so many other songs. Chainsmokers is the perfect example of shitty new pop music done on a macbook to make it simple and catchy to grab the minds of the Millennial's simple minded ness.
Oml you can say the same thing about literally any song. If a song is written in the same key then obviously there will be parts that sound the same or similar to other songs. I'm not sure people understand that there isn't an unlimited supply of riffs, chords, and melody's just except that they sound similar and just enjoy the good music.
Banana song and Roses is not a real thing. No way that can pass in court and the missy elliot one either. The rhythms might be similar but nothing compared to big plagiarism cases that have gone to court. The Fetty Wap one does have the same flow though.
Just seen the Chainsmokers on the Audacy youtube channel and informed the host about it. Didn't the Chainsmokers learn the lesson from the Legendary MC Lyte? 5:27 and 6:04
With the first one you are right but the last 2 are not the same. The last one not even close. I mean some notes the same and same key is not a copy...
I'm not saying they didn't get ideas from other songs, but I don't think it's fair to say they stole melodies from other songs just because they sound similar. Tons of songs have the exact same progressions and very similar melodies.
The Missy Elliot comparison is way off....You're crazy....Same with the banana thing. How could you legitimately believe these songs sound anything like the Chainsmokers songs? Also, what are you talking about saying that the Chainsmokers owe The Fray a "Paycheck"? Writing and selling music isn't a salary based job. Musicians don't get paid, they make their own money (Think of it as a large scale lemonade stand). The fact that they have thier name on the credit means that they will begin to make profit off of the song (Via advertisements and downloads).
You clearly stated that the Chainsmokers would make a profit off their stolen riffs and tunes and you wonder why this RUclipsr made such a statement. Fuck me!
They are also stealing twenty one pilots new theme. One of their new songs is swimsuit and twenty one pilots JUST came out with jumpsuit. Can’t wait for another similar song
Lol, this guy doesn't know anything about music. Almost any mainstream song is made from 4 chords. You can put any two mainstream songs together and still find some part that sounds kind of similar to each other.
i dont think that it is a problem to have inspiration from other songs. a catchy melody isnt terribly easy to make and and if you hear something that you like you want to recreate that feeling and change it. I think that this is something that all producers do. Also roses was such a innovative song and inspired an entire new genre of EDM so its hard to hate on that.
Aidan Warren You're right. Sampling is a huge part of music production. I love the idea of using one portion of an older song to remake it into something new.
That's so weird I remember when it first released, I thought to do a mashup of Closer and 679. Anyway I don't think they "stole" it but they could have that's just my opinion.
I am really surprised people really have this free time to compare closer or chainsmokers songs, in what world I live now that people started to care about songs and waste time on it and not care about the terrorist in this world lol just weird.
But you play games on your channel... Gamers are more hated for wasting their life than people listening to music. Music has been a thing for over a thousand years.
okay, make you own song in this world full of music if we have only c,d,e,f,g,a,h, ... try make you own melody.... what about 1D ? they way to another... good copy of song from 1970 i mean
wow! on one hand I like those songs songsand it probably is hard to come up with something truly original but those guys should give the other artists credits.
Not to hate but the brain use ting to make new things like in terms music books ex.. if it resembles a song they might have heard the song a long time ago but if it resemble to it be completely similar it is a copy.sry I hope I word it al right sry if i sound like a hater
First of all what's so bad about recycling a song and turning into something better because in my opinion all the songs that they so called stole where alright but they made a new Version and even better it's called up cycling
Also you kind of do the same thing so why do you care exactly because you're taking trends and making them in songs that could be called "" not original
The blur between the line of genius and mad No, he's right. Statistically speaking Closer did better than 679 ever did. Similar melody, different style of music. Closer was on the Billboard No.1 for a very long time and almost beat a record for the longest standing song on there (much better than 679 ever did). Also, its called Sampling not Up scaling.
Evan white something better? Chainsmokers just make it worse. They're literally despised by every music critic and genuine music fans who understand music.
As much as I agree with caidence being somewhat copied. It's actual fact. That as long as your chord progressions/lyrics/rhythm it would pass. How do you think mashups are so easily made?Majority of Pop Music use the same chords, but they then alter its tempo/riffs/etc I don't mind The Chainsmoker because they are doing what they want. Not a big fan per say either. But this isn't NEWS PEOPLEIT'S LEGAL AWARENESS LOLOLOLOLOL
People hate finding out the truth so they dislike
They stole it from The fray - Over My Head (Cable Car) at 3:33, the exact same melody.
You don't even know anything about music. Many songs sound alike but that doesn't mean that they're copied. Stop being a dick
Abhiram Rao lol chainsmokers have like one of the worst albums out there, yet they're criticising other artists. At least Lorde had some artistic integrity when she criticised 1D's kiddie nananana-lalallala infested music.
@@trulsfransson9754 yea, the songs are just in a certain key, if you know music theory
"Influenced" they blatantly stole the melodies from all these other songs
well every mainstream song is made from the same 4 chords.
Dravon Thatcher that's funny because closer doesn't have those chords. stop jumping on the bandwagon
Closer sounds scarily similar to the fray’s over my head (cable car)
It's not just the piano riff in over my head cable car, it's also the verses.
Don’t hear it tbh, just the same part of the major scale
i think every chainsmokers song sounds the same
The chainsmokers are trash, but honestly the missy elliott one could just be a chopped, screwed sample. So you can't really criticize that part and also stick up for the artistic merit of sampling in music.
I've got one more for you. The melody from Ben Howard's song Conrad is the same as the opening of Don't let me Down.
*samy deluxe - poesie album (entirely the same, just the third note played is an octave higher to make it sound different..)
WOW! That one's really similar. I completely missed that one. Good catch!
I heard no such similarity
Yes roses does sound like the guacamole so g
Holy crap! I was looking for a video on RUclips to see if anyone else noticed that the beat in "don't let me down" sounds like "get your freak on". Nice!
just me, Chris, & you i guess haha
Its just a typical indian sitar melody
Everyone stealing songs.. ariana grande, selena gomez... moree
Bro fetty wap's song came out in 2015. They both stole it from Cable Car by the fray, which came out in 2007
The banana thing was funny 😂
Love your editing lmao
This kind of phenomena has been happening for ages.
There are only so many notes / arrangements, and only so many best patterns. Eventually songs start to blur when you drill down enough.
When a song has 3 notes it's getting easier to sound like other songs.
😂😂
They are soo overrated!!! Hahahahaha. Bye Chainsmokers
i honestly love The Fray and closer does sound like Over my head.
Remy Boyz don’t own that flow, it’s not even that unique
damn.. now that i look at then.. youre right 🤔
Ok I agree with the other ones but I highly doubt that the chainsmokers would make a song based off the avocado song!! Could be possible but I don’t believe it. It also doesn’t sound the same.
2pac Shorty Wanna Be A Thug,Eminem Noone's Iller,Kanye West Drive Slow
i don't care but i still love closer and Chainsmoker
Enragement Fox lol
how about all we know from Chainsmokers?
nothing to compare?
compare all we know to closer lol. it's literally the same song
+iHaveBeenRustled i mean is there any song similar to it's melody?
yea, closer
their 3 chord progression of EVERY chainsmokers sound Allah the same really
Closer sounds nothing like all we know wtf
Ok so let's think about something here! Do you think the edm genre or any other genre has been around forever? Nope so producers are all copying each other, and I hardly doubt the chainsmokers are sitting listening to peel the banana
Who do you love sounds exactly like Sub Urban’s cradles’ little sound. We’re gonna ignore this?
"Form the banana form form the banana"
When you mixed that with Roses I died
The banana song sounds exactly same with Roses
6:00 Guacamole song and roses
This is called sampling. A lot of artist are doing it. I don't like the fact that people call it 'talent less' i think there sound is very unique. Drake & Rihanna are also sampling other artist. cmon that fetty wap and the fray was soooo identicalll
AlwaysMarijn if the chainsmokers are unique then soulja boy must've been the rapper version of picasso
AlwaysMarijn lost me at drake lol

"I don't want to they they sole it" read ur title
Pls look up Let Me Down Slowly by Alec Benjamin... it’s like I’ve heard it before. But I couldn’t figure out what song.
The tune n melody is similar to something out there... 🤔
Number 3 is just... so000 legendary! Go bananas! Literally laughing out loud!
na at least the lyrics is diff
Well with pop hits the flow and melody matters way more and it's being stolen from successful
Their song 'Paris' sounds like M83 -Midnight city AND the song 'Don't let me down' is apparently a sample of a 2011 German rap song “Poesie Album”
PLEASE DO A MASH-UP OF THESE EXAMPLES. chainsmokers seems shady....
verse for neyo 'let me love you' sounds a lot like 'setting fires'
Not as much as these other songs though
Permal No man, Setting Fire is an exact copy of a Britney Spears' new album's song.
Where did you find the live instrument video ?
I legit thought closer and Paris were the same song for like a month
Foreign Warren: "I don't wanna say they deliberately stole it"
Title: The Chainsmokers STEALING SONGS?"
😂😂
Sorry you're not very musically inclined. No offense at all though, but Chainsmokers is simple ass music. Their song "Don't let me down"
Also sounds like Diplo's song "Revolution" when I first heard it, I thought it was literally Diplo's song for a second.
that guacamole song was full of Cancer
men in copyrights at spotify the chainsmokers say that Isaac Slade from The Fray work at Closer and give guys the chords
Hmm from what I read, the Fray's writing credits were added retroactively, meaning after the song came out already.
Oml you can say the same thing about literally any song. If a song is written in the same key then obviously there will be parts that sound the same or similar to other songs. I'm not sure people understand that there isn't an unlimited supply of riffs, chords, and melody's just except that they sound similar and just enjoy the good music.
"Good Music"
never knew Chainsmokers had good music
They actually stole Gaga and Britney songs!
Banana song and Roses is not a real thing. No way that can pass in court and the missy elliot one either. The rhythms might be similar but nothing compared to big plagiarism cases that have gone to court. The Fetty Wap one does have the same flow though.
3:34 literally the people that paid to be there don't want to be there
After seeing the bs at the end… that was a complete joke
The chainsmokers songs are horrible anyway
andy sala yea ,that's why their song closer has 1.5 billion views😑
Because it's similar to another song that's popular. Ofc people will like it. Most pop music is trash
Exillery having more views doesn't make the quality of a song good. What a casual lackie.
Stupid remixes? Bruh lol Your remixes are amazing lol creativity galore
Just seen the Chainsmokers on the Audacy youtube channel and informed the host about it. Didn't the Chainsmokers learn the lesson from the Legendary MC Lyte?
5:27 and 6:04
I just gave Dr. Jean a heads up on this video
With the first one you are right but the last 2 are not the same. The last one not even close. I mean some notes the same and same key is not a copy...
I'm not saying they didn't get ideas from other songs, but I don't think it's fair to say they stole melodies from other songs just because they sound similar. Tons of songs have the exact same progressions and very similar melodies.
there's something called variation
I'm not trying to be mean but the chainsmokers make the sounds/songs better because I have never heard those other songs, Just saying.
WELL, I've never heard that banana song, I've definitely heard the others songs before.
Maybe cause you listen to pop stations on fm radio
They fucking stole how to save a life
Haha the mashups from Roses and Banana Dance are awesome XD
The Missy Elliot comparison is way off....You're crazy....Same with the banana thing. How could you legitimately believe these songs sound anything like the Chainsmokers songs? Also, what are you talking about saying that the Chainsmokers owe The Fray a "Paycheck"? Writing and selling music isn't a salary based job. You clearly stated that the Chainsmokers would make a profit off their stolen riffs and tunes and you wonder why this RUclipsr made such a statement. Fuck me!
lol it's true chainsmokers are good I like the song they just made called wake up alone (triarchy remix) this is 🔥🔥
They are also stealing twenty one pilots new theme. One of their new songs is swimsuit and twenty one pilots JUST came out with jumpsuit. Can’t wait for another similar song
The Chainsmokers provided Fetty Wap with 30 percent of its revenue and Chainsmokers' songs are better than those songs
Remember the movie BEGIN AGAIN
You and chris are crazy
Lol, this guy doesn't know anything about music. Almost any mainstream song is made from 4 chords. You can put any two mainstream songs together and still find some part that sounds kind of similar to each other.
Using 4 chords in EDM production is basically equal to "dude make something better everyone does that shit"
Shit bruh. I though you were saying they ripped Fetty. Woulda been so tight if you were implying he was the originator of the melody
Haha. That is a possibility still. You never know. The Fray officially got writing credits tho for it.
GIVE ME BACK THE ROSES DROP, ITS IN MY HEAD EVERYTIME I HEAR THE DROP
Closer also sounds suspiciously close to Midnight City by M83
The drop of dont let me down is just a loudpvck sample
I think is the same with Paris and melovin wander
Lmao the banana part made me laugh so hard
Chainhookers sucks
WTF are you dumb it's Chainsmokers*
EKersh have you ever heard of jokes?
fourteen yes but I couldn't tell if it was a joke
Lady Gaga is the queen are you stupid the fuck is a chainhookers
You must be the roommate back in boulder
I knew it
that banana/guacamole women is probably my algebra teacher's sister or something
i dont think that it is a problem to have inspiration from other songs. a catchy melody isnt terribly easy to make and and if you hear something that you like you want to recreate that feeling and change it. You're right. Sampling is a huge part of music production. I love the idea of using one portion of an older song to remake it into something new.
all the music in the Chainsmokers songs are the same surch it on google
That's so weird I remember when it first released, I thought to do a mashup of Closer and 679. Anyway I don't think they "stole" it but they could have that's just my opinion.
MAZA They say that they "stolen" the melody because (in the case of Fray's song) they give them LATER the credits of the "inspiration".
I’m mean with dance music comes a lot like crazy amounts sampling
don't let me down uses a loop from a library
you are absolutely not crazy.. just started looking this up because i had the same questions as you
I always thought "Roses" and "Die Young" sounded similar
Not at all
Just me that thinks these are a little far fetched? jeez
wtf is wrong with this guy. every single of music seems like another and thats equal to copy??? wtf. thats fuckin ridiculous
Why just why Chainsmokers WHY THIS IS WHY UR MOM DON'T FAQUING LOVE U
None sounds the same only one that sound similar is the frays song
be ready to face the comments
The Fray is my all time favorite band
I knew something sounded familiar
okay, make you own song in this world full of music if we have only c,d,e,f,g,a,h, ... try make you own melody.... what about 1D ? they way to another... good copy of song from 1970 i mean
"form bananas" 🎶 lol wtf is this
Anyone hearing M83's Midnight City in Paris?
Too far fetched.......artist can use the same melody mistake
THEY COPIED GRANDMA?!?!!??!?!?
Love Petals AJ 😂😂😂
Just let them do what they like to do... Jeez
And he's doing what he wants to do
They stole from TØP
wow! on one hand I like those songs songsand it probably is hard to come up with something truly original but those guys should give the other artists credits.

ye, but its still shit lol
Evan white something better? Chainsmokers just make it worse. They're literally despised by every music critic and genuine music fans who understand music.
1:35 Fetty Wap and Closer
It sounds nothing like fetty wap lol its the fray thats it
Foreign Warren u need to do an awesome remix of that "crazy rolling car crash" guy, I won't rest until you do! Lol
you got it :]
As much as I agree with caidence being somewhat copied. It's actual fact. That as long as your chord progressions/lyrics/rhythm it would pass.
