I worry about that too but I feel a bunch will come out and fail and we'll be left with about 3. Kinda like now how we only have 3 Video Game Consoles.
it doesn't help that Disney will pull all their Disney films (not sure about marvel or star wars, its complicated) from Netflix in 2 years to make their OWN streaming service... and also making three different kinds of them, THAT SURELY HELPS
welp, what you said pretty much said before during CN's South East Asia think tank seminar in singapore that I've attended couple months ago on why they are "discouraging" us from giving them cartoon series pitches that are "story driven" and they are encouraging cartoon pitches that favour more "non-story driven" "family friendly" and "something you can pick up easily" Also they emphasis a hell lot on the apps and streaming and basically how your series can incorporate other smart applications via smart phone interaction and etc...

Another thing that supposedly causes a lot of issues for these sorts of series such as Symbionic Titan, was "lack of toy sales", yet I never ONCE in all my time watching TV when it and a number of other shows that were cancelled because of similar reasoning, saw a single freaking commercial advertising that these shows even HAD toys. It wasn't a lack of "interest" in buying toys for a lot of these shows, it was the company's utter failure at marketing their products outside of the series itself, and that's not even mentioning CN's failure to market Symbionic Titan and many of these other shows. When you screw with something's scheduling, never run re-runs, barely advertise that it exists, let alone what times it is on, and don't advertise that it has toys, it is GOING to fail. It's like the people at CN, and Disney, and many other companies don't realize this simple logic for some ungodly reason. If your target audience is kids, you have to ADVERTISE that you have toy products, otherwise you are relying strictly on the parents knowing what the kids like, or taking them shopping, or the parents allowing the kids to use devices and find these things themselves. It's putting ALL of your hopes for sales onto the backs of the parents, it is the KIDS you are trying to sell the toy to, the parents are the walking piggy banks that simply get to choose when money is spent. (Also, apology for the long rant, I've been sitting on this for weeks now and finally found a place to vent it.)

That may be what they are doing now, but it still doesn't explain their idiocy years back with Sym-Bionic Titan, before they even tried to integrate mobile devices. They started trying to do that, what? 2 years ago now? Sym-Bionic Titan was airing in 2010-2011, 7 years ago. The reason it was canceled was because there were no toy properties created for it despite it having some of the highest ratings of any damn show CN has made in the last decade. A number of shows get killed off on purpose by executives, simply because they don't like the show, or like another show better. Hell, they even wrote if off in 2015, just showing how little the valued the show despite how well liked it was. I bet that if they had bothered to merchandise it in any way, they might have actually made a profit off the damn thing.
I think a lot of it has to do with toys. Cartoon channel executives still have this weird mindset that cartoons *need* to sell toys, like we're in the 80s. Shows like TT Go attract a younger audience, so more likely to buy toys. Anime and action cartoons typically attract an older audience, so less toy sales.
I think the weirdest part is lack of toys in the first place. Where's my Star Butterfly with light up want and Marco Diaz with karate chop action? (I do think Steven Universe is doing a good job advertising a see a lot of their stuff in blind boxes and pop figures at Hot Topic and FYE not merchandise I'll buy butt I'm sure someone loves it)
Do kids these days even buy toys? They're more into videogames since they're more fun to play with lol. But anyways I agree, CN executives need to learn that toy sales aren't that important like it was over 30 years ago and just focus on their ratings for cartoons instead. Just look at Sym Bionic Titan for example. It was canceled because it couldn't sell any toys? Really?
Remember how Pan would use that one clip of that guy saying something like "Don't you want to play again?" at the end of his videos? How awesome/heartwarming/tearjerking would it be if he did that at the end of his final video and had a link to his earliest video? Just a little thing I randomly thought off.
I remember the mid 2000's being the best time for action cartoons. So many greats came out. TMNT, Samurai Jack, Megas XLR, Ben 10, Avatar, Justice League, Galactic Football and too many to name
New Samurai Jak, Avatar the Last Airbender and Korra, Magnificent Ladybug, Star Vs. FOE, Pokemon (then they are battling), Young Justice (hope it'll continue eventually)? You also have anime (which are still cartoons) for that action fix; Princess Principal, Knight's and Magic, Boku no Hero Academia, Re:Creators, Fate/Apocrypha airing this season alone with another season starting in a month or so.
well learn to use google search and find them there's tons, you can watch Samuari Jack, Avatar, Star vs forces of evil, or you can just watch anime which usually shows tons hell Dragon ball came back
I'm glad Young Justice is coming back, but I wish someone would bring back the 2011 Thundercats remake. That was such a good show, it deserved more than one season.
2:41 *sniffs* You know Motorcity... YOU'RE THE FIRST RUclipsR I'VE SEEN TO ACTUALLY KNOW THAT SHOW EXISTS!!! *bursts into gross sobbing* MAY THE LORD BLESS YOUR SOUL, GOOD MAN! :')
0:09 *hears teen titans theme, and starts singing along* When there's trouble you know who to call, *hears Ghostbusters theme* teen titans! Dammit you tricked me! -_-
Loonatics Unleashed is sort of the decade-older counterpart of Teen Titans Go. Shows that took an existing series from yesteryear, flipped the genre from comedy/action to action/comedy, earned loads of ire from fans and critics, and yet still got multiple seasons.
Salnax No CN's tyrants often ruined our beloved cartoon channel and it looks like CN is already at WW2 with TTG have dictatorship (similiar to Animal Farm) and all the viewers we're like victims. Yeah, TTG has basic stories with generic humors and mostly bad cartoon's secret weapon: Toilet Humor and Twerks. TTG have occasional reference of the original series such as 40% 40% 20%. Man this episode was like Finn from Star Wars or something.
@Ooohbopbopboppadoohwah Actually, this comment was 2 years ago so I think TTG got redeemed after the movie and things have changed. So the hate bandwagon was completely outdated nowadays. I regret what I just saw afterwards. So basically, TTG was misunderstood as a "worst cartoon of all time" while being a parody to the show itself which it has nothing to do with the 2003 series.
Oh my god I can't believe someone's actually talking about Tron????? Tron is so under appreciated thank you!!! The show was awesome! the whole tron franchise is so under cared for. Disney hates their own franchise and care more about the money. I got so confused by hearing Derezzed then he did it and I just... okay sorry this has been going on for too long but. Thank you rebeltaxi for actually bringing up tron, even if it was a minor moment.
I will be forever pissed with how they abandoned Tron Uprising. With proper marketing and timeslot, and TOYS, the show could've easily thrived. I'm still amazed that with a show as flashy as Uprising, there were literally NO toys made.
You know, a wise man once said: "I think its normal to cry and masturbate...sometimes you shout her name....nothing wrong with it...." That wise man was Pan
You forgot to mention The Thundercats reboot that lasted only one season around the same time as all those other 2010s cancelled action cartoons. Cartoon Network sucks big time and TMNT 2012 is ending this season to be replaced with a more "kid friendly" version soon. I'm hoping Voltron reboot kicks off more action cartoon revival, as I barely ever tune in now to the tv networks.
I just want to say... Transformers Devastation was awesome. Not just for the fanservice, but because it's an awesome beat em' up with a surprising amount of depth. Considering it's made by Platinum Games, it makes sense. I genuinely think that Devastation is, at least mechanically, the best best Platinum game ever made... even better than Bayonetta... Yeah, I said it...
Meaning a company can sell their property to a government so they can get a tax break from it. Like CN sold off Sym-Bonic and now the US Government owns it.
Okay, I'm already aware of the W.O. situation with SBT (btw, has any other network tried this before with their shows?), but what I'm trying to say is how come SBT strictly needed a toyline to be successful while Sam Jack did not?
Pan, I'm genuinely surprised that you didn't mention that money is a huge reason why action shows are struggling. What studio wants to spend thousands of dollars outsourcing animation to make a flashy action cartoon with unique character designs when you can just make a cartoon about a boy and his daily life at school with noodle arms to make it easier to rig in flash or toonboom?
What they are missing from this business model is one thing that entails all entertainment: heart. Without heart, passion, I find that you just cannot form an identity as a business, especially when making a cartoon show for kids. Yes, money is a major issue, but would it matter in the long run? The creators of our fav 80s, 90s and early 00s shows still have reputation to this day and they deserve our respect and support 100%. It all comes down to one thing- you reap what you sow, and only a dumbass MBA exec will think that money is the only thing that he needs to sow.
Rhaynebow well that's an interesting point you made with the flash animation software, seriously now every freaking cartoon use flash animation and sadly just a few people use it well
I thought that would be the first thing to come up! I really want to like all these creative new cartoons coming out, but I can't help thinking that they all just look cheap and easy... Like if you do a quirky cartoony show amid a variety of other types, it's refreshing. But when every show is going for "quirky cartoony", it just tells me that this is all they can afford.
I'll never forget that episode of Teen Titans Go when Cyborg got fed up with being a robot and instead ushered in a new age of communism in the United States.
I love action cartoons far more than the comedy ones then they started moving them to just Fridays and Saturdays to just Saturdays. I was pissed back then and I was stuck with shows with no damn plot development whats so ever, it was dark times for me back then.
Jules Weiss its watchable but still is a bad show mainly because of the annoying a#s sisters and the corny jokes and that s##tty ‘’sad’’ music The only thing i like is that they actually show blood, why they can show blood in a ‘’comedy’’ cartoon but not an action cartoon is stupid but better than nothing
1996? DBZ didn't come to Germany until 2001! They even got Spongebob Squarepants' voice for Vegeta because it "sounded like the french voice". Wait. Think about this for a second, Spongebob Squarepants came to Germany in 2002, so Vegeta didn't have the voice of Spongebob, Spongebob has the original voice of Vegeta, holy shit!
14:01 You could jump into the old episodes of Justice League, Batman: TAS, Superman: TAS, Static Shock and Generator Rex besides the ones that were multiparts. It's just that today action shows want to be all subtle and all that that you have to watch everyone to get it.
Paralyzed Horse I was just gonna mention that. All of the DC Animated Universe shows by Bruce Timm (Batman TAS, Superman TAS, Batman Beyond, Static Shock, Justice League, JL Unlimited) were critical and commercial successes. It goes to show that action cartoons can still work, but businesses are too reluctant to give them a try anymore.
I found it extremely odd that he didn't mention any of those shows considering they were the ones that HEAVILY contributed to the action cartoon legacy. Man of action and Bruce Timm have done wonders for the animation community
Funny how 2 years later, Disney would now officially own Avatar, Alien, Predator, Planet of the Apes, and other franchises and classics from 20th Century Fox (or 20th Century Studios) and Fox Searchlight Pictures (or Searchlight Pictures)
i think its good, but its biggest misfire was its time slot, due to the fact that they only air this including transformers on mornings instead of the afternoons are idiotic, they think that audiences can wake up early to watch these shows and that they don't know that times have changed hell even star wars rebels air at night times what I'm saying is that cartoon network has to change there varieties if not its there loss
I thought CN was the ones to air it but i have yet to see it actually on TV... the series is cheesy but still actiony and fun. my main gripe is the fact that they recycle villians so quickly sometimes, like the time they clobbered brainiac only to have him return the very next episode no worse for wear...
Well the action is great, but even with Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill to play Batman and Joker, the genre has changed. I looked into this before and most reviewers agreed on the following: They're not aiming for older audiences anymore so the plots of episodes are fairly simple and linear. It's good for action, but don't expect Justice League: Unlimited level plots, character development, or themes. Just don't mistake it for the next JLU, Batman TAS, or even Teen Titans. It's clearly for younger audiences but it's still good though, expecially compared to most other shows airing right now.
To give people a idea on just how badly Disney mishandled Motorcity and Tron:Uprising: MotorCity had it’s epsidoes either played out of order, or played one week, then gone for two weeks. Uprising went from a 8pm saturday night spot to 12AM SUNDAY MORNING. And that’s if it wasn’t a repeat or the season was messed up. Yeesh.
It was parents that complained kids were not learning enough from schools and got the feds to force every non-cable channel to make every Saturday morning block to be about propaganda or some sort. I remember that last of them known as Vortexx was shut down because they wanted to do "One Magnificent Morning" and of course, no one watched.
It's sad but if _Thundercats 2011_ and _Beware the Batman_ premiered 5 or 6 years earlier on Cartoon Network then each show would probably have lasted the full 65 episodes. Disney just doesn't care about action much to the misfortune of _Motorcity_ and _Tron: Uprising_ shows.
wdcain1 Beware the Batman was cancelled due to the timing of Young Justice’s cancellation causing all the cry babies to think it was chosen over there show.
The Real Delphox 616 Actually i believe if we didn't have 4kids anime would not be as popular as it is today. Someone needed to introduce us to One Piece and Shaman King
I will admit. Without Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon, I would never love anime. And there have been many cartoons that are great, but cut short due to low watch count which made me sad.
"Streaming is the future." But will it be a good one? Since Disney is doing its own streaming service, thus taking its movies out of Netflix, there's this concern that we have to keep track of all these subscriptions and run out of money every month. Now theoretically, one family member could pay for a service, while other family members could pay for their own. But movies and TV shows in major streaming services are like theme park attractions. When they are gone, they are gone. That's why physical distribution is still around. When you buy a movie, you can keep it as long as you want.
Well until disc rot comes into play or from what I've heard if you keep the disc in good condition, it could last up to 200 years...at least from what I've heard....but to me that's fine. I mean everything is going rot and disappear one day. I mean even if you say get something digital and put it on a hard drive, sometime down the line that stuff i no longer going to be usable and the data will be corrupted anyways. I mean nothing will last forever...so might as well stick to physical, so that way at least for there amount of time that you have it, you can at least enjoy it whenever you want without relying on an internet connection...
The thing is, the main reason why streaming is the future is because regular TV's animated content has deteriorated to the point where streaming is simply a better alternative. I mean, why ensure 17 episodes of the same garbage cartoon in a row, when you can just stream shows you actually want to watch online with a simple, quick internet search? It's purely the result of the alternative being so much worse to the point where it's no longer a sensible option.
oh man all those amazing shows! i have such nostalgia for them, i remember coming home after school and would watch Miguzi. fosters, teen titans, code lyoko, totally spies, transformers and more! Aw man so many great shows. i remember being younger and would watch cartoon network all day. Growing up on powerpuff girls, Dexter, johnny Bravo, courage, samurai jack, ed, edd, and eddy, Grim, Kids next door, Batman, Justice League, and more. I loved em' all and i miss all those great shows i grew up with! :')
That thing about TV not playing plot-driven show is really a cartoon network problem. Disney XD played alot of gravity falls and plays a lot of star vs the forces of evil. I think it's just CN liking TTG too much
God I fucking love Transformers: Animated. I'm pretty young so it was a big part of my childhood and now I'm filling up on G1, Beast Wars, even the comics like Mtmte and Lost Light. But guess what! Now everyone only knows the stupid fuck-ass movies and its horrible.
Shockwave Say what you want about the movies, but you have to remember that without them, Transformers Animated and Prime probably wouldn't have existed. Heck, the entire Transformers franchise might not have become as overwhelmingly popular as it is nowadays.
Shockwave Again, I think the movies are atrocious too (well, except maybe the first one), but facts are facts. You can obviously tell there were some elements of Transformers Prime that were directly inspired by the movies i.e. Bumblebee's inability to speak and the more serious tone. Plus, most of the writers from the first movie left to create it, so you can't deny the connection there.
Badlittleboy1003v AJ trust me. In the 2010s we had that 90s Cartoon comedy wave and I feel like our generation ( the ones part of the 2000s action era) will give it a comeback in the 2020s when the majority of us we'll be in the animation industry by then.
I really hope that television doesn't die completely. Because streaming is something that I'm not really used to. Plus it's expensive and complicated to sign up for on online services like Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and Crackle. Streaming might be the biggest trend going on right now, but I just godly hope that it doesn't replace television. Cause I love television. And I would hate to see it become extanked.
How is streaming complicated? You sign up for a service and then you pick what you want to watch. Most TVs today come with a smarthub to play those services on. Streaming isn't going away for awhile because people enjoy it more. Creators find it easier to make story driven television, and people find that they can watch it on their own schedule. I don't want television to die either, but some executives are stuck in the past and don't accept that times have changed.
Well Adron Duell if you must know, the reason why I said that streaming is complicated is cause like I said before it's just something that I'm not really used to. But don't get me wrong, I understand how fun and easy is to use. My point is that it's not something that I would do often. Mainly cause I don't have any streaming services like Netflix or Hulu on my tv. That's why every time whenever I hear someone say that streaming is the future of entertainment, well that scars me. Because as of now I don't think it has what it takes to fill that spot. Yeah streaming may be fun, profitable, and easier for tv executives these days. But try to you to understand that not everyone has the luxury of steaming shows on television. And that all they have is just regular cable tv to watch. I mean hey you would be surprised by some of the people out there that still watch tv the old fashion way instead of new. Basically what I'm saying here is that I feel like we have it too easy these days with tv entertainment. And that streaming is just a rich people enjoyment kinda thing. And that's another thing, streaming doesn't come cheap regardless if it's free to use on various devices. You would still have to pay for your free trail in order to use streaming apps like Netflix and Hulu. And who knows what the price is like on those apps. What $10 or $11.00 a month!?!
Streaming is definitely not a "rich people enjoyment thing". Netflix starts at 9 bucks a month. That's like... 4 cups of coffee. Hulu starts at 8, Amazon Prime at 6. I guess it really depends on your internet connection. Where I live (Central EU), access to Internet is relatively fast and cheap; I pay about $20 for it every month (including the most basic cable and landline).
Streaming isn't hard at all. If you're able to use youtube just fine, you can handle Netflix. And it's SUPER convenient! I can come home from work, start watching a show from wherever I left off on my TV, switch to my PC if someone wants to watch something else, and when I'm ready, I can switch to watching it on my phone in the bathroom or something, or while in bed. Literally, if something has a screen, or can be plugged into a screen, it probably has access to Netflix.
Transformers Prime was so fucking great and Animated was pretty good too. The Cybertron games and Devastation were a lot of fun as well, especially Fall of Cybertron.
Holy shit! I remember Miguzi. It was around the time my family could afford to have cable again. I saw the commercial inverts thinking "what the hell was that!?". Good times.
When I was a kid, I always felt like more cartoons should have a story. I loved the episodic natures of cartoons but I always felt like cartoons could test me.
I think another reason may be people being impatient. People may or may not want to watch a channel only to watch one show that they enjoy; whereas streaming (as long as the show is available) gives them the right to watch what they want, when they want it. Especially in the case with anime and Toonami. If it weren't for its' dedicated fanbase, Toonami would cease to exist.
I blame people who complained about violence in action cartoons those people say that those cartoons corrupt the mind but they forgot we live in a world where are kids are more aware of more adult topics and tragedy in the world
As of today Rise of the tmnt was the closest thing we got to a modern day action cartoon , its just ashame like usual Nickelodeon screwed with a shows success by booting of to Nicktoons.
Remember when Adventure Time and Generator Rex were both heavily advertised together in commercial breaks? Well my guess is that since Adventure Time became more popular and sold more toys etc, there was no incentive to do action shows that cost more and are more time consuming when they can make shows that are not only made in house, but also are cheaper and less cost effective. Sym Bionic Titan came out around the same time as Regular Show and history repeated itself there as well. Not saying these are bad shows but man, I really wished Generator Rex and especially Sym Bionic Titan got the love they deserved.
0:00 - 0:11 On the same year this video was uploaded, the Titans and The Ghostbusters teamed up in LEGO Dimensions, tomorrow’s the game’s 7th anniversary!
Excellent video, as always. Its clear you care, you are informed and know how to direct and produce content. You are probably one of the best consistent youtubers I am subscribed to. I don't know, feel like I had to write it down. Congratz and greetings all the way from uruguay.
Wow, I can't believe I'd forgotten one of the fundamental aspects as to why I don't see too many reruns of story-driven shows nowadays: most of the time, you DO have to be caught up in order to fully grasp what's going on. I still remember being highly disappointed whenever I missed an episode of such a show like DBZ. I eventually learned that I'd just have to wait until the show cycled to the end of its current airings (in which case it would loop around again at least once).
Tron Uprising made up for so much of what Legacy was missing (not the least of which was actually having Tron as a major character). But now I know that Young Justice is coming back, so HELL YEAH!!!
Hey Pan, just wanted to say that your skill with editing really stood out to me with this one. How you incorporate music, cuts and information is really unique man. Glad I've been subscribed for so long, keep it up!
As someone who watched Inuyasha when it very first started airing I had to wait a whole hell of a lot longer than a week. It being concluded in a differently named anime years later also didnt help one bit lol
Pan absolutely needs to watch Camp Camp!! Its a comedy, but its really good and has this campy(ha) humor, thrown in with the most lovable asshole as a main character!! its absolutely wonderful and i would love to see his review on it!!
"Streaming is the future!"
Until there are as many streaming services as there are cable packages, each costing about $9.99. Then the bubble will burst and we start the cycle all over again
KingClod Since the cycle is gonna start all over again, I can finally listen to my favorite anime and cartoons on radio with the whole family.
I worry about that too but I feel a bunch will come out and fail and we'll be left with about 3. Kinda like now how we only have 3 Video Game Consoles.
KingClod mine is free but it has so much ads playing between it you might as well watch television

To bad outside Ducktales and Starbuttefly, their cartoon sucks, especailly the Marvel one.

NCHProductions heck, even some cartoon and anime had a singaporean dub.
oh do be thankful that its our "singaporean dub" and not the "americanized dub"

(Also, apology for the long rant, I've been sitting on this for weeks now and finally found a place to vent it.)
the CN think tank had being advising us to create a series that can integrate with other mediums easily, like interaction with smart phones, tablets, if your series can work with experimental mediums like VR, thats how they are seeing cartoons this days.
one example of integration is the magiswords series where the thinktank told us how this interaction with "collecting swords" from your phone when u watch the cartoons was ground breaking for kids.
its not the physical toys now, its all about integration with other digital platforms. thats why merchandising of series is kinda a second thought. the key now is integrating your series to mobile platforms as easily as possible.
so yeah, we maybe entering a new age of digital entertainment... its going mobile.

That mentality explains the Young Justice BS a few years ago: They cancelled it because "too many girls" were watching it.
Either adapt or die.
That actually wasn't true. It was cancelled because the toy sales were extremely low.
Do kids these days even buy toys? They're more into videogames since they're more fun to play with lol. Its' "Don't you wanna rematch" not "don't you wanna play again". Your nostalgia made you a dumbass.
To be fair, he did say "something like 'Don't you wanna play again?'"
Osmosis Wright Bad day?

4:41 - Rice balls?!?! What are those... Oh, I think you mean jelly donuts.
Jelly-filled are my favorite!
There was a Pokemon scene where they turned rice balls into a giant sub sandwich lmaaooo 😂
Vassilinia Yeah.... Were they being intentionally trollish when they made the sub roll on it's end? Because I feel like they were.
I tried looks my it up I guess they just didn't like rice balls

I'm the reason Motorcity and Gravity Falls are gone. When I finally watch a show, it gets cancelled. I'm sorry everyone.
LevelZeroSage 1 gravity falls didn't got cancelled
can you watch teen titans go
thanks
Me too dude.
Don't you dare watch OK KO. I don't want it cancelled the first month it came on the air.
... Can't you start being at the consumer test runs of Michael Bay movies?
"Streaming is the future", man I miss this late 2010's optimism in regards to animation
If we only knew how animation would get worse because of it
I miss the action cartoons
at least we got star vs the forces of evil and steven universe and toonami.
Brian Kent Pirrie i do like steven universe but that isnt really an action show
New Samurai Jak, Avatar the Last Airbender and Korra, Magnificent Ladybug, Star Vs. FOE, Pokemon (then they are battling), Young Justice (hope it'll continue eventually)? You also have anime (which are still cartoons) for that action fix; Princess Principal, Knight's and Magic, Boku no Hero Academia, Re:Creators, Fate/Apocrypha airing this season alone with another season starting in a month or so.
well learn to use google search and find them there's tons, you can watch Samuari Jack, Avatar, Star vs forces of evil, or you can just watch anime which usually shows tons hell Dragon ball came back
Me too
I'm glad Young Justice is coming back, but I wish someone would bring back the 2011 Thundercats remake. That was such a good show, it deserved more than one season.
Sam Vimes
What I want to see come back more than anything is Sym-Bionic Titan!
problem these cartoons aren't marketable anymore, they're be on streaming media, Young Justice will do amazing on Netflix
I could easily see the Thundercats reboot on Netflix, it was very promising!
Aw man why did you have to remind me of how much I want the show back
Sam Vimes Well do I have some awful news for you then...were getting ANOTHER Thundercats reboot. And its basically Thundercats Go!

Loonatics Unleashed is sort of the decade-older counterpart of Teen Titans Go. Shows that took an existing series from yesteryear, flipped the genre from comedy/action to action/comedy, earned loads of ire from fans and critics, and yet still got multiple seasons.
At least Loonatics Unleashed had an actual story. A shit story, granted, but a story none-the-less.
Herman 111 With 3 god awful reboots
I loved it at the time!
On facts👌
Yeah
If there’s one thing I hate about American cartoons is that a lot of really good shows have been canceled just because they didn’t sell enough toys
This was a different decade though I mean there’s a reason why Spider-Man or Batman franchises still going
at least they put Teen Titans back on.
Still people are still pissed
“It’s only gonna get better! Streaming is the future!”
I don’t think this is gonna age so well
I will be forever pissed with how they abandoned Tron Uprising. With proper marketing and timeslot, and TOYS, the show could've easily thrived. I'm still amazed that with a show as flashy as Uprising, there were literally NO toys made.
The mishandling of Tron as a franchise overall makes me sad.
I do hope that they decide to revisit it someday.

Completely agree.

Fall and War of Cybertron was better

Question, during the time Samurai Jack was on CN, did it need to have a toyline in order to be "successful"?
But compared to Sym-Bionic Titan... they were made by the same guy. Unless something else went wrong.
Tax write off, there ya go.
what do you mean by tax write off? what does that mean?

And it aired in India only around the same time, 2001. So...... yeah... non-USA countries really got the shortest end of the stick from anime.
For the longest time, yeah...
Dragon Ball came to Brazil in 1996 and Dragon Ball Z in 1999
I was watching it in the early mornings... long before toonami...
That's cuz you lived closer to big ol' Papa America.
I like how when pan was talking about anime after transformers there was still peter cullen at 4:55
Funny how 2 years later, Disney would now officially own Avatar, Alien, Predator, Planet of the Apes, and other franchises and classics from 20th Century Fox (or 20th Century Studios) and Fox Searchlight Pictures (or Searchlight Pictures)
I mean if it makes money Disney cares for that
Justice League Action is great. Cartoon Network should air it more.
I've only seen a single clip but it looks really cool.
i think its good, but its biggest misfire was its time slot, due to the fact that they only air this including transformers on mornings instead of the afternoons are idiotic, they think that audiences can wake up early to watch these shows and that they don't know that times have changed hell even star wars rebels air at night times what I'm saying is that cartoon network has to change there varieties if not its there loss
Titans JoJo yeah and it has Kevin Conroy voice Batman you know it's a good show or movie (Not the Killing Joke) when Kevin Conroy voices batman
I looked into this before and most reviewers agreed on the following:
They're not aiming for older audiences anymore so the plots of episodes are fairly simple and linear. It's good for action, but don't expect Justice League: Unlimited level plots, character development, or themes.
Just don't mistake it for the next JLU, Batman TAS, or even Teen Titans. It's clearly for younger audiences but it's still good though, expecially compared to most other shows airing right now.
the closest thing we have is justice league ACTION
ironmaster64 am not getting up at 7 to watch a show
ironmaster64 No one wakes up at 7am anymore
ironmaster64 Justice league action is actually a really good show but it sucks that it only airs on saturdays at 7 am with no reruns.
+Eignasor Melendez Another reason why CN needs to fix their schedule completely.
Eignasor Melendez and that it is only 11 mins an episode. CN is obsessed with 11 min cartoons.
Yeesh.
I love anime, but it destroyed the Saturday morning block got to admit it.
Saturday morning cartoon block died on its own regardless of anime or not.
It was parents that complained kids were not learning enough from schools and got the feds to force every non-cable channel to make every Saturday morning block to be about propaganda or some sort. I remember that last of them known as Vortexx was shut down because they wanted to do "One Magnificent Morning" and of course, no one watched.
but who the fuck give a fuck about school about that much, One Magnificent Morning is a teaching channel like pbs kids/pbs but fail in comparing
Ultralocothedragon Why not just make your kids watch PBS if they want education?
Ultralocothedragon that's why every weekend morning we get boring shit on abc nbc and cbs

The new generation will never know the loyalty of waking up real early or staying up late at night to watch some anime! 😂
Now a days you can binge watch stuff on streaming but you can still use Blu-ray/dvd
So. All I'm hearing is "Companies are too lazy to try".
So it's all 4kids's fault! We should have known.

Chibi Prussia One Word: POKEMON!
But they brought Jelly doughnuts to the west it can't be their fault
I will admit. Without Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon, I would never love anime. And there have been many cartoons that are great, but cut short due to low watch count which made me sad.
Interesting to know
"Streaming is the future."
But will it be a good one? Since Disney is doing its own streaming service, thus taking its movies out of Netflix, there's this concern that we have to keep track of all these subscriptions and run out of money every month. Now theoretically, one family member could pay for a service, while other family members could pay for their own. But movies and TV shows in major streaming services are like theme park attractions. When they are gone, they are gone. That's why physical distribution is still around. When you buy a movie, you can keep it as long as you want.
Dokemon Studios i saw netflix is making dvds now for daredevil, so they could be possibly marketing in physical distribution soon
Dokemon Studios now
Dokemon Studios now he tells us.
6:07 Actually, Dragon Ball Z premiered in 1996 in America on UPN. It didn't get on Toonami until 1998.
Motorcity is one of my all time fav cartoons.
If Cartoon Network switches to streaming I'm fine with that except they are doing it too fast by killing their network and spam advising the app
That thing about TV not playing plot-driven show is really a cartoon network problem. Disney XD played alot of gravity falls and plays a lot of star vs the forces of evil. I think it's just CN liking TTG too much
Yeah that's mostly a CN issue for the most part. Other networks, though not perfect, have handled that kind of stuff a bit better in comparison.
Mike from Motor City kinda looks like Murdoc Niccals from Gorillaz. Especially Phase 1 Murdoc
i got teary eyed during the entire video :(
God I fucking love Transformers: Animated. I'm pretty young so it was a big part of my childhood and now I'm filling up on G1, Beast Wars, even the comics like Mtmte and Lost Light. But guess what! Now everyone only knows the stupid fuck-ass movies and its horrible.
Shockwave same tbh.
Shockwave Say what you want about the movies, but you have to remember that without them, Transformers Animated and Prime probably wouldn't have existed. Heck, the entire Transformers franchise might not have become as overwhelmingly popular as it is nowadays.
Doodleboy 565 I refuse to owe any of TFP and TFAs hard work and amazing content to.. MICHAEL BAY..
Shockwave Totally agreed. We need an animated movie of More than Meets the Eye.
Well this is shitty news for me since I want to get into animation
And half the ideas I have are action/comedy
Badlittleboy1003v AJ trust me. In the 2010s we had that 90s Cartoon comedy wave and I feel like our generation ( the ones part of the 2000s action era) will give it a comeback in the 2020s when the majority of us we'll be in the animation industry by then.
Hopefully things look up
Because some of us (*cough* me) are too poor to use streaming services
Go independent? Lots of cartoons are self-published now too and do web series like rwby
Pitch to Netflix or Amazon, then. They tend to be more experimental when it comes to cartoons.
Same boiii!!! Whatup XD (yeah am in the same situation here so maybe if I where to pitch it off for just adult it could help? Maybe? Idk?
Literally, if something has a screen, or can be plugged into a screen, it probably has access to Netflix.
more expensive than cable? Geez dude, where do you live?
Transformers Prime was so fucking great and Animated was pretty good too. The Cybertron games and Devastation were a lot of fun as well, especially Fall of Cybertron.

i miss transformer animated
derpy quagsire same. It's a shame it didn't get a 4th season.

Chaotic Neutral talk about wasted potential.
Pan I seriously love how you find old commercials to have in your videos.
Love this video but that prediction about streaming is so disappointing now lmao

Well it got cancelled
I totally would be up for them to bring back Sym-Bionic Titan.
One of Genndy Tartakovsky's more overlooked works that I believe died way too soon.

I'm not the only one who remembered Tron: Uprising
Wow, I can't believe I'd forgotten one of the fundamental aspects as to why I don't see too many reruns of story-driven shows nowadays: most of the time, you DO have to be caught up in order to fully grasp what's going on.
I still remember being highly disappointed whenever I missed an episode of such a show like DBZ. I eventually learned that I'd just have to wait until the show cycled to the end of its current airings (in which case it would loop around again at least once).
Tron: Uprising was great.
have you even seen transformers animated and prime, they are both epic and deep ACTION shows, not cartoonie childish showes as you said they were
Exactly
He really should take the time outta his day and watch em
Tron Uprising made up for so much of what Legacy was missing (not the least of which was actually having Tron as a major character). But now I know that Young Justice is coming back, so HELL YEAH!!!

Ahh Camp Camp..Boy does its artstyle deceive you into thinking its a kids show.

Damn those Toonami clips hurt my heart. toonami is how i got into Gundam and DBZ and stuff.
Because of streaming sites like Crunchyroll that make it more convenient?
Toonami has always struggled since the birth of online streaming
Artydomi agreed the days of watching DBZ on cartoon network are long gone

I think its great streaming sites have become the norm and that some of them are producing content
