Hey again, this is informative explaining all the blend modes, but I want to use a B+W alpha or luma motion matte and embed the video in the white area and black becomes transparent, there is a tracking matte feature in compositing tools like AE but do you know a way to do this in Powerdirector? This can be done with static images but can do with video alpha matte? thx
Nice video in showing blending modes. I frequently use them in Photoshop. I was unaware I could do that in PD. You are correct in that most people will look for the result rather than be concerned with what is happening. But it is always good to include an explanation of what is happening in each blending mode.
Blending modes are useful, as you have found out. If we understand what's going on under the surface I think it makes us better editors over time. --Jim
A very good video---Every once in a while on the Weather Channel they have what appears to have a screen rising from the floor BEHIND the metorologist . I can pull up the screen but not behind the person. Would I have to use a green screen for this effect? Any thoughts?
Roger, You are on the right track. You need to layer the screen that comes up behind the meteorologist and what you would see as the background. Because he's in front of a green screen, layering is easy. --Jim
I just got PowerDirector 365 and their tutorials are awful! Thank you for shining light on some of the options -- I really need a "how-to create a video" for Dummies!
I think I can help you. Here is a link to a PDF that has most of the SharperTurtle tutorials for PD. You can click on any link and it will take you to the RUclips video. ==Jim www.sharperturtle.com/PDF/PDL.pdf
It is now 2021 and I think this blending tutorial can use an update. In your next edition on blending I hope you can give examples where each blending mode will produce positive results. In another word, under what circumstance would an user want to use the darken/lighten mode?
That is indeed an old tutorial. I'll do some checking and see if I can find a use for some of the blending options. How to use some of them is obscure to me as well. --Jim

I have not been able to find any tutorial on how to blend videos together such as seen in this music video. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I know this video was produced in Powerdirector. : ruclips.net/video/f0_B9CEUefw/видео.html
Nicely explained, something 95% can't accomplish. However, why not explain a feature with a practical/useful example, rather than this does this and that but I have no idea what to use it for. It kind of kills the purpose of applying something in the first place. Thanks anyway!
Antonio, I should have put more thought into that tutorial. I must admit that there are some features where I too scratch my head and have a hard time visualizing when I would use a particular feature. You're right about that being very helpful in looking at the nuts and bolts of how things work. --Jim

A good tutorial on blending modes and how you can change the look of your image in a video.
I find this a complex issue. Hope you can use it creatively in your videos. --Jim
I also think screen looks pretty darn good.
