I actually saw this coin in person today at my LCS. The owner showed it to me. And it didn't have those scratches.....weird. He's getting it graded by either ngc or pcgs.
1st time sending a coin in to get graded (ngc), hoping for a ms68-70 even though there was faint scratches. My only problem is filling out the onli e paperwork, I feel as though it could of been a better process or a instructions video
Mine doesn't seem to have as many marks as yours does, i've looked at it in a few different lights. trying to upload a short video detailing my coin but unfortunately RUclips is not letting me right now
I received mine today & mine also has the light scratches, but has 1 other problem on the reverse the rim has a couple of dings(?) just above the (of). I do love the coin & may send it back for a replacement or order another one. Thanks for the Video.
Thanks for sharing Salivate. I'm sorry the coin was scratched. I like the reverse, but the obverse looks a little lame. I'd be tempted to send it back with the amount of premium you paid! I could sense your disappointment. I'm sure you will do what works best for you. For a little less $$, you could still buy a 2015 slabbed Libertad from our favorite dealer! LOL.
LadyLibertyStacker Very true. I'll probably just hold on to this. I feel pretty confident the premium will hold for resale if I need too. I do feel slightly better seeing that others have these marks too. It will sell out soon, I'm sure.
It should do well on the secondary market, but it you like it, that's what's most important. I would be tempted to send it back, but that's a hassle if it doesn't bother you that much. Have you checked into the double eagle St. Gauden's pre-1933 gold? That is holding its value really well. I've added that to my wish list, but am not buying too too much right now. I need to pay off my big purchases this summer! lol
Beautiful coin. I like the design, even Angelina Jolie (lol). Too bad about the die polish marks though... a big ticket item like that should be flawless.
Awesome Coin. Sucks to have those dye polish marks on such a beautiful/expensive coin. Been watching your videos for while now, and you have inspired me to start showcasing my coins and future unboxing! A multitude of gratitude!
I just canceled my back order. I'll stick with the $57 Coins and Chronicle set that is now selling for $200 plus. This time it was good to be late to the party. Send it back Salivate. Nobody wants a scratched premium collectable coin. I'm not telling you anything that you don't already know. C'mon US MINT, damn damn damn.
Hay.. as you were rotating the coin with the eagle it had s 3D affect on it from what I saw.. To me it had a depth look to it.. Maybe that's what the scratches might have done?! That might just be me.. Angelina Jolie that's funny right there.. It might have been the airtite reflection at min 4:56..
All in all a nice coin. I particulary like the draw of the eagle. I agree these scratches are a shame. I did hesitate to buy this one or the 2009 ultra high relief Saint Gaudens but it's decided i will buy the UHR Saint Gaudens.
Salivate: As usual another great video. I have sent my orders back to the mint three times. You can get refunded for your return costs. You have to mail a copy of your shipping receipt. If you ordered a second coin, send back the unsatisfactory one. All the best John
What are those circular things ong the edge of the capsule? It seems like the U.S. mint has been having a lot of trouble with keeping coins a nice condition.
I got my coin, but unsure whether to keep it. On the reverse it has a small noticeable polish mark or something that appears raised somewhat.. I have never had a problem with the Mint before, but that flaw drives me crazy???? I love the coin and have been buying for the last 30 years. Any reasons or thoughts why I not should send it back. Wish I had bought more of the 2009!!!!
Ron Paige Same here. Yeah, most all these have the die polishing marks. Stay tuned for an up close and personal look at it in an upcoming video. I'm keeping mine. But, I am disappointed.
Received mine today. With the naked eye couldn't see the polish marks (but my eyes are old) so pulled out the 30x loupe and sure enough there they are. Very disappointed! Wondering if we should send em back...
Very nice addition! I like the coin design, but for some reason I really thought the coin was going to be a HR proof. Sorry that it has the scuffage. Are you sending it back?
Wow the coin looked great at first glance, much better than I expected, but the polish marks would have me disappointed too. The second I saw your coin I said, "ah shoot, I gotta order one now", but the finish would have me irritated for sure. They are on back order now, so maybe with feedback, they will address this issue. I love both the Anjolina obverse and the eagle on the reverse. Looks much better in hand! Even with the finish issues, my guess is that it will be much more successful than the Kennedy 3/4 oz gold. Sell it on Ebay and buy another on back order, you will make money and I bet they fix the finish issue on your next one!
Cull Silver I'm not so sure they'll fix it. Most if not all have some of these marks. I think it's like the ATB 5 oz series. Oh well. At least I'm not the only one. Thanks for watching my friend.
When you buy direct from the US or Canadian mints, what payment methods do they allow you to use? I wanted to know before I bought something, they don't explicitly say what the options are without placing an order.
Seattle206723 Thanks Seattle. Not worth sending back as the risk of getting a worse scratched coin is there. All of these have the marks, some worse than others.
SalivateMetal I agree. I assume the mint will just end up sending out the returned coins to someone else. Does anyone know if the mint melts the returned coins or do they turn around and resell them?
My has a blemish along side of libertys dress even with the date. BUMMER I ordered it 7/30/15 they shipped it 7/31/2015 if I return it there goes first day issue and first strike and chance of grading a 70. I wonder if it might be worth more later being blemished
Dan Hill First Strike designation is simply a marketing ploy. It really doesn't mean anything. They should say Early Releases as NGC does. But, even so, means very little. I think you're safe sending it back for an exchange.
I want to buy an 1 oz gold coin but I don't now what the best choice is. Is there a big difference in for example the Canadian Maple Leaf gold coin and the gold Eagle of the US mint?
Bullion Head I saw another video posted around the same time as mine and it looked like theirs had much less scratches in it. But, much different lighting on it too.
Hi Salivate, I'm sorry about the quality of your coin. The eagle looks beautiful. I'm not sure why the US Mint can't produce gorgeous pieces like the Perth Mint, RCM, etc.. Thanks for sharing :-)
SM my brother and I put and order in and got 2 of them both are scratched from the die its a shame it is a awesome looking coin one is no better then the other they look bad not sure what we are going to do we paid good money for them
My specimen also has the die polish lines, more heavy on the Obverse. Die Polish lines are common and often found on Franklins from the 1950's, as my eyes have seen thousands of examples, in the case of this coin there are more prevalent due to the softness of the 24k Gold. I almost suspect the mint was trying to get a prooflike appearance on this coin which they did achieve on the Reverse, one of the possible reasons for the heavily polished dies. I like my example, polish lines and all. Die polish lines are not scratches in the coin as some in your commenters are suggesting, rather they are RAISED lines in the field of the coin. I bet most of the 50k coins have these, though that depends on how often the mint workers cleaned the dies during the striking of the coin.
HepKitty Coins forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=26&threadid=943491&STARTPAGE=24On this thread I have provided some high resolution images....
HepKitty Coins Thanks. The link didn't work. But, I found my way to the thread. Thanks for the info and pics. Yes, they are raised on the planchet, and 'sanded' into the die. Not sure how they contribute to a proof finish. I think that was done by polishing the dies in a specific way. Anyway, still disappointing in my eyes. Thanks so much.
SalivateMetal I have now examined 10 of these coins, and they all have the same characteristics, heavy polish lines on the Obverse, and a prooflike appearance on the Reverse. A small sample of the total mintage but so far a common theme.
SalivateMetal Have a peek at this link for some info on the Mint preparing proof dies. www.coinnews.net/2013/04/09/u-s-mint-at-san-francisco-preparing-coin-dies/ I am suspecting they used techniques on these dies that they use on proof dies trying to strike a proof like appearance, maybe not the best idea when the planchet is soft 24k Gold.
SalivateMetal There is a EBAY auction for a PCGs MS70PL, the PL is for proof Like, which IMO is what the Mint was striving for and probably why they polished the Hell out of the dies. The Ebay Specimen is currently at 17 bids and $2301 and climbing. And, the Obverse has heavy die polish marks.
SM, thanks for sharing. I was on the fence, but after seeing the final product, I'm happy I didn't pick one up for myself. The finish is a big disappointment as is the packaging. I know the packaging is consistent for bullion, but I would have expected better for this unique coin. To be honest, I'd rather have a nice St Gaudens over this design. I know they aren't as exciting, but the W Burnished UNC Gold Eagles have lower mintages and their finish is flawless. Thanks for providing the great info.
I was so excited for this coin. When it went from Ultra High Relief to High Relief, I got a little less excited. When it went from a series to a one-off, I got a little less excited. When I found out it wasn't being called a Union, and when I found out about the scratchy-looking polish marks, etc, etc,... Not a bad coin, but just so many wasted opportunities with this coin... makes me sad. I even think they should have done a better box/presentation for that price point.
Wow! I just received my 2 gold Liberty coins and both of them have the same scratches as yours. In fact one of the coins has two small chips on it. I'm contacted the U.S. Mint and they are allowing me to return both the coins. I'm very disappointed in the quality of the coins. I'm also interested to see how many coins grade an MS70. I bet the population will be low.
ROBERT JIMENEZ I doubt it will be low. The grading companies get a lot of money to push 70s out. It's a shame, almost a scam really. Hate to say it. But, it is. I;ve heard about others who have sent these back. Thanks for your comment.
Beautiful design...but premium to high for us...still may be a good deal...if they made a 1/10 or quarter oz. Of her maybe would bite! Do to her resemblance to H.M. ;)
Hello Mr. Sailvate metal I've been watching you since you first started. I'm just interested should I buy this coin or should I go buy a one ounce bullion coin. Thank you..
Robert Morris Might be a good time to buy coins that carry the higher premium since spot is low. When I first started stacking silver I bought bars. 1-10oz. Took me about a month before I got into some of the Perth Mint and other coins.
Robert Morris I would buy bullion coins at first as numismatics can be speculative especially modern coins like this. This one will probably hold it's premium, despite the issues I mentioned. But, it's not a sure thing by any stretch
starwreck9 The Eagle is indeed awesome. I do wish the obverse was a bit better - something just seems a bit off. Now, as far as quality control, tar and feather all of the mint directors! These issues are why I mostly stick to bullion, with a few collectibles - all from either RCM or Perth.
I see some dealers are selling this coin in MS70 First Strike, Early Strike, Next Strike, Third Strike, First Release, Black Holder Special, Elizabeth Jones signed and Miles Standish signed. Those Scratches on your coin are absolutely sickening. I guess the dealers got all the perfect coins first.
SalivateMetal I am sending mine back anyway... I ordered one on back order but I may still cancel. I'm just not in love with the coin .. I feel like I should be for the money ... Maybe I just have high premium fatigue right now.
I just ordered a second one for October delivery, I plan on returning this coin when I receive the replacement. My coin is even worse than yours with an ugly black spot below the torch. This should not happen on modern coins.
That is so disappointing. I would send it back. Unfortunately with the US Mint, the returns are on your dime, correct? Such a bad example of a coin the mint built up so much. Thanks for showing it.
MrMnmn911 I sent mine back to the US Mint. They agreed to pay for return shipping but never sent me a label. It's not worth $1490 for a bullion strike.
SalivateMetal Yes. I've seen a few videos. One of them looked in OK condition but it wasn't shot in the best lighting so it was kinda hard to tell. When I called the US Mint to voice a complaint a few months back, it sounded to me like the service rep was working out of his home...anyway he took complaint, he was nice. I also asked him not to just take my complaint but to ensure his manager heard it...and his manager's manager heard it. I asked him to please not be the the one that took complaints only to have nothing done with them. He assured me he would send my concerns to upper management. I like a lot of the mint designs but man...they really need to up their game. peace.
HAha, Angelina Jolie. I think it looks more like Lara Croft, myself. Well, Lady Liberty has been confused for a male before (Mercury), so this might be an improvement. Either way, she is beautiful!
So do you plan on returning/exchanging or are you just gonna live with it? For a $1500, I would expect a mint coin...the Mint should be embarrassed! They really have to raise their standards.
CollectorsFix I will keep it. Every other one I have seen has the scratches on some level. Still very disappointing. Thanks for your comment and for watching.
HEY EVERYONE: Many remember SM rocking out, but many new subs may have not heard this one yet. Just wanted to repost this retro SM rock out for those that haven't seen it yet!! Rock on!! ruclips.net/video/qlYMK1SMq-U/видео.html
Now the grading system has a MS70 that has polish marks and a MS70PL in this coin that looks much more shiny . That's what is disappointing thing to see all them scratches. the PL has a mirror finish like the Kennedy's did. A MS70 is running$ 2000 and up the MS70PL $3800 and up. But they were sold as the same coins. The big coin buying companies who buy lots of coins are killing us single collectors.
I cannot fathom how the US Mint would allow coins of this condition to leave the mint. I already do not order Canadian coins due to spotting. I don't see myself ordering any US Mint coins with a premium either. The condition of this coin is unacceptable. I am stunned. In fact, this coin's quality is much worse than anything I ordered from Mulligan Mint back in the day/
Sal fast forward to 2021 I watch your videos ! I have this and the 2017 & 2019.
Pretty cool listening to you from several years ago
Looks like a nice piece.
Kevin Grootaers Thank you
Really like that eagle on the reverse....Sorry to see those scratches.
Charmcity Stacker Thanks so much!
I love this coin Sal... I May need to find one lol
I am responding to your comment verbally on a live stream at this very moment!
Beautiful coin, Love the Eagle, Sorry about the polish marks,Thanks for sharing.
Silver Diva Thank you! Yeah, the polish marks are a bummer.
Bad timing I had on this one.....now I completely understand you Thanks
SuperEROQ Thank you sir.
A multitude of gratitude for showing such a fine coin. Oh my, I am shocked with the micro-scratches.
Dellrugby PM Thank you sir. Yeah, it appears they are on every coin.
Well, I am glad to hear that, I would hate to see an Angelina or an Eagle missing...
thx for sharing. It is a beautiful coin even with the die polish marks.I ordered about 12:10 and am still waiting for it.maybe soon?? enjoy the coin.
***** Glad you were able to get a coin! :)
Great video!
I am responding to your comment verbally on a live stream at this very moment!
Mine came out fine, yours doesn’t look too bad either
Looks like zombucks Liberty. Disappointing finish. Perth Mint does such beautiful work by contrast.
Eric S It's hard to argue with you on that.
SalivateMetal The more I look at liberty, the more I like.. I have to get one of those...
The dye marks are disappointing but this coin is AWESOME, AWESOME!!!!!!
Love love that St Gaudens like eagle on the back. And Angelina Jolie looks like she lost some weight.
Love the chunky goodness and relief. I'm so envious of this coin you have SM. 👍🏻😎😎
Silver Orgold Thank you sir. I like it okay except for the die polish marks. Now, I need to pay for the cc bill. lol
***** I've never done it before. But, good luck!
Nice addition to the stack. Enjoy it my friend.
1966Hemi426 Thank you :)
My Fort McHenry ATB coins are like that too. Looks like someone took a brillo pad to them.
The Arabic Student Yep. It sure does. Disappointing,.
my coin also has the die scratches aswell, I posted the video yesterday
***** Yep. I saw that. Very cool you got one too.
Mine doesn't seem to have as many marks as yours does, i've looked at it in a few different lights. trying to upload a short video detailing my coin but unfortunately RUclips is not letting me right now
ChiTown Metals I'm glad yours doesn't have as many marks. Know some have varying levels of marks on them from the research I;ve done.
I received mine today & mine also has the light scratches, but has 1 other problem on the reverse the rim has a couple of dings(?) just above the (of). I do love the coin & may send it back for a replacement or order another one. Thanks for the Video.

Four nines fine gold is very soft...
Keep @ it and Happy Stacking !!
MUDSWAT Thank you so much
Geez that is Shamefull! We were all anticipating a milky smooth finish, maybe none more than you Sir! Thanks
SilverHustlin13 Yeah, I think for a $400 premium a milky smooth finish isn't too much to ask for if it's not a proof, right?

That sucks about the polish marks, especially with that kind of premium!!
Jesse Silver Thanks Jesse. At least mine isn't the only one with those die polish marks.
Beautiful coin. I like the design, even Angelina Jolie (lol). Too bad about the die polish marks though... a big ticket item like that should be flawless.
StackAndPrepper Thank you and I totally agree!
Personally ,I don't like this piece but,I'm glad you have it.
Bruce Mcgrew Thank you. Yes, I think they could have done better. I know it has mixed reactions from collectors.
I wasn't sure if you where going to get one of these. It sucks yours have the die polish marks. :(
Silver Slacker Yeah, a real bummer for sure. Thanks SS.
Awesome Coin. Sucks to have those dye polish marks on such a beautiful/expensive coin. Been watching your videos for while now, and you have inspired me to start showcasing my coins and future unboxing! A multitude of gratitude!

Shame to see the polish marks, however still a very nice piece. Thanks for sharing Salivate.
Silver Streak Thanks Silver Streak. I appreciate you watching and commenting.
I am watching again...should I make a back order purchase...hum..???will they fix the finish issue....???
I just canceled my back order. I'll stick with the $57 Coins and Chronicle set that is now selling for $200 plus. This time it was good to be late to the party. Send it back Salivate. Nobody wants a scratched premium collectable coin. I'm not telling you anything that you don't already know. C'mon US MINT, damn damn damn.
Cull Silver I don't think they will fix the die polish issue Cull. Sorry I'm late in responding.
***** I know man. The problem is they are on every coin. I've been anticipating this piece for so long. I'll lick my wounds and keep it.
Shame about the polish marks, i know a friend has just picked one up so i'll get them checking theirs to see if it has similar issues.
CyberCurtainTwitcher Thanks CCT. I've learned that all of them have them at some level.
SalivateMetal So i just found out!
Sorry about the imperfections :(
+dchevron77 Thank you
Hay.. as you were rotating the coin with the eagle it had s 3D affect on it from what I saw.. To me it had a depth look to it.. Maybe that's what the scratches might have done?! That might just be me.. Angelina Jolie that's funny right there.. It might have been the airtite reflection at min 4:56..
Christopher Sanchez It is high relief. The scratches are actually raised on the fields.
Nice coin for sure Salivate. I love the reverse and eagle. Sorry about the scratches. Thats disappointing
Steve AU/AG Thank you Steve!
What a beautiful coin my friend, but then again gold is always beautiful. Thanks for sharing brother.
Massachusetts Prepper Thanks so much for stopping by and watching sir! Always appreciate it.
All in all a nice coin. I particulary like the draw of the eagle. I agree these scratches are a shame. I did hesitate to buy this one or the 2009 ultra high relief Saint Gaudens but it's decided i will buy the UHR Saint Gaudens.

SalivateMetal Sorry for the late response.I'll buy it there en.emk.com/artikel/0/32867/
Salivate: As usual another great video.
I have sent my orders back to the mint three times. You can get refunded for your return costs. You have to mail a copy of your shipping receipt.

All the best

beautiful gold coin! Thx for sharing! Subscribed! :)
Dave Silver Thank you so very much Dave!

TheMultiGunMan Thank you :)
The U.S. Mint has got to get it together.
stillkeepin1 Agreed!
Angelina always was a tease!
losinglouie She sure is!!
losinglouie So is that Brad the bald flying way on the back? It is an amazing striking resemblance of Angelina
I really like the coin. You would think that they would make them perfect for how much they cost. Congrats and sorry at the same time.
roadkill2342 Thanks. Yeah, a bittersweet purchase for sure. Thanks again.
Very nice addition! I like the coin design, but for some reason I really thought the coin was going to be a HR proof. Sorry that it has the scuffage. Are you sending it back?

1Stackin' Chick Thank you so much! Nice to see you back!!
Are they available colorized?
AlmostCirculated I think I might paint over the scratches. lol
SalivateMetal great vid. Mind if I ask what the price upon release was?
Ronaldo Javier Amador Sure, it was $1490 + $5 shipping.

Die polish marks = antique finish....we are getting an antiqued coin for the price of a bullion coin! :)
Louis Gedo lol I guess that's one way to look at it.
Good 'ol American quality - at least since the late '70's and the Chrysler K-car and Ford Escort. Looks like the Aussies and Canucks still rule.

I know it's almost 8 years but is it coin still collectible in 2024?
Does this 2015 comes in BU only or proof also?
Yes, very much so. Selling for quite a premium now. Only came in BU. Silver medal came in proof.
I was planning to purchase the coin but I ended up with the high bid on a couple of double eagles which wiped me out. I prefer the older coins.

I used to praise the US mint but they have really slipped over the last year. So sad happy you got your coin though!
Brian TheLog Thanks so much Brian. Yeah, they could have hit this one out of the ball park like with the baseball coins. Oh well.

That is a pretty cool coin! How does it compare with the size of a silver eagle?

All i have to say is i like it
gold Bearbunny Cool. Thank you sir.
Not up to mint standards. I didn't order one because of the obverse design. But if my gold Kennedy looked like that I would have sent it back.
John Hartley Understandable for sure. Thanks for watching and for the comment.
Beautiful design...but premium to high for us...still may be a good deal...if they made a 1/10 or quarter oz. Of her maybe would bite! Do to her resemblance to H.M. ;)
PART TIME PREPPERS Ah yes. Good idea PTP!!
I like it. I like it alot.

Thank you..
Wow for the money people are paying that should have been a proof or at least a perfect finish!!!
24K ArabiaFelix I totally agree. Thank you for watching sir.
well i like the eagle at least
starwreck9 The Eagle is indeed awesome. I do wish the obverse was a bit better - something just seems a bit off. Now, as far as quality control, tar and feather all of the mint directors! These issues are why I mostly stick to bullion, with a few collectibles - all from either RCM or Perth.

That is ashame! Otherwise, beautiful coin
Silver ByTheOz Thank you sir!
How much did it cost you?
ikonane $1495
SalivateMetal Thanks for the reply. I recently bought a 1oz buffalo for $1150. That's what they cost in Sweden now.
joecugo Unless it's in Brooklyn, I'm not interested.
ikonane And a better quality coin! Nice deal!!
ikonane That's only a few dollars more than what they cost in the U.S.
Alot of first there, but too bad about the hairline scratches ~>
of the earth Yes, I wish they would have done the finish at least like the 09 UHR
I think it looks nice...but I'm saving my fiat for the centennial gold coins next year...
DaleCooper444 I hope those turn out better with regards to the finish. Thanks Dale.
DaleCooper444 Im with this guy
***** my eye is set on the Merc ;)
NOTAPOLITECANADIAN Same here
AlmostCirculated Me three..it's on top of list!
They could have done a little better on the design. It is gold thank heavens. It really does suck about the die polish marks.

I only see brush like marks on mine with a x5 loupe... And only at some angles .. Is this what you see?. SalivateMetal
geggs1 Trust me. All those 70s have the scratches too ;)
Pd Ballerina Yes, I see mine with the naked eye. I think some are more prevalent than others.
SalivateMetal I am sending mine back anyway... I ordered one on back order but I may still cancel. I'm just not in love with the coin .. I feel like I should be for the money ... Maybe I just have high premium fatigue right now.
That's a shame it's a lovely coin and they should have made it a ultra high relief
I am responding to your comment verbally on a live stream at this very moment!
If the coin is gonna come like that , the premiums shouldn't be high
kingkold Totally agreed!
nice !! 24 karat ??

The condition of that coin is not right SM. But do some research to see if you are the exception rather than the rule before trying to exchange it.
halfdollar1 I am the rule on this one after doing some research and reading comments on here. Thanks Halfie.
I just ordered a second one for October delivery, I plan on returning this coin when I receive the replacement. My coin is even worse than yours with an ugly black spot below the torch. This should not happen on modern coins.
***** No, it shouldn't. I'm sorry about your coin having the spot as well.
MrMnmn911 Yes, not worth the time or energy at this point and all the others I've seen on youtube and in pics have some variation of the marks.
I like a lot of the mint designs but man...they really need to up their game. peace.
Send it to NGC, they'll grade that bad boy a 70.

HAha, Angelina Jolie. I think it looks more like Lara Croft, myself. Well, Lady Liberty has been confused for a male before (Mercury), so this might be an improvement.
Either way, she is beautiful!
Eddie Sandoval lol Or Lara Croft played by Angelina Jolie. lol
Sucks about the die polish marks. I like the design, but those die polish marks are terrible.
SILVER ROOKIE It detracts from the design. Thanks SR!

Wow that is disappointing, look at the bright side, you have an ounce of gold ;)
Fivology That's always a plus!! :) Thank you :)
Well, at least it is gold! lol

HEY EVERYONE: Many remember SM rocking out, but many new subs may have not heard this one yet. Just wanted to repost this retro SM rock out for those that haven't seen it yet!! Rock on!!

Once ounce of AMERICA!

I am responding to your comment verbally on a live stream at this very moment!
Am not impress with the liberty gold. The buffalo better.
***** I agree! I like that it's a new design. But, it wasn't executed as well as it could've

Hi singapore mint gold coin is better in high smooth finish quality... check it out at singapore mint web site...
+liao jun xiang cody Most all the mints have better finishes than this. lol
