Nice one Sid! I use the end of a wooden rolling pin to straighten out my twisted and bent coins. Put yhe coin on a bit of flat soft wood first and then with the flat end of the rolling pin, push down until it bends flatter. Then I get a lump hammer and wack it once to get the flatness perfect. Sounds harsh, but gives a good result evwrytime. I clean em with the foil and spit if they are really grotty, but otherwise leave em to look as old as they are.
    Cheers pal, keep safe.....👍

great vid. 2 things I would add to this. Use a piece of wood over the coin then you hit it with a hammer. Also after you have heated and quenched the coin and flattened it the silver is now very soft. You should really heat it again after you have flattened it and let it cool slowly which will harden it back up as it was. Only then should you clean and polish it to avoid scratching it when it's still soft.

It's hard to heat harden silver, you'd need to heat at 650f for 30 minutes and then air cool item

I’ll see what I can do with it, followed by a crazy little laugh 😂 hammered when it was made and hammered hundreds of years later , carnt be bad. Good way to test if you have got a cold sticking it in tin foil , . When dremal came out , thought you d gone mad , but works ok. I’ll have to pull mine out, used the leach on some of milled silver some come out great overs like you said have a bit of a marble effect and looks shit. Does bring the detail out leaving the recessed darker. 👍🏻

Thanks for the video! How high do you have to heat the coin to bend it? By the way, there is a very good remedy for cleaning silver coins. A detectorist from Germany developed it over years of work and it works perfectly without destroying the patina. He also developed a means to restore the patina.

@@bobkinsley8083 It is a cleaning kit: wax, silver cleaner, patination. There's a shop that sells the set, but you can also buy it directly through Markus Brüche (Facebook) - that's how I do it. Just text him. You can also email me if you have any questions about usage.

To take the shine off a silver coin I boil a egg take the shell off mash the egg up then cover the coin with egg and leave in a plastic bag for a hour or two tones the coin right down excellent results.👍

I've never tried it on any of my hammered coins yet but for the likes of pre decimal coins like the sixpence, shillings etc I just let them sit for about 15 minutes each side in distilled white vinegar and then rub them with the rough side of a washing up sponge.
I also use same method for 5p,10p,20p,50p,£1,£2 but I use a wired scour pad as its just spendable coins.
I used to use harpic+ toilet cleaner but always ended up with a headache from the smell of it.
