@voluntaryismistheanswer we BBQ plenty but we still don't use that word when referring to food. The only people I know who use the word hog instead of pork are some of my mom's Midwestern relatives who are farmers and raise the actual animals.

As someone from Ga, shrimp and grits from a BBQ place was probably very bland. Grits, if not seasoned, taste like glue and milk. And a rib place doesn't typically have that on their menu. Normally that would come from a Louisiana style restaurant to be authentic. Ga is not known for that dish.

I've lived in America all of my 62 years of life and I've never heard of Grits and Shrimp. I tried grits once and it felt like eating sand. I like shrimp too much to ruin it by putting it in grits 😂😂

Well he explained abouut the spit thing. I don't eat ribs but he said he has a string like thing stuck on his lip. It might have been a fatty part called gristle. He didn't spit the food out. He could have taken a napkin & wiped his mouth. I don't like fried foods but everyone everywhere loves KFC & fried chicken places. I know Rebeccaa who was with Zied in GA. worked in a fried chicken place. there are more Mom & Pop owned ones in the South but in NYC- it's KFC or a regular restaurant. I think Angela made a scene for drama & a cigarette break. Bashing and saying women in Nigeria can't drive is dissing them. I have seen bad drivers Male and female in the states & in Canada, England, France, Wale, Ireland California NYC etc.. Florida drivers are insane. People going the speed limit that beep me- I refuse to get a ticket for speeding b/c someone wants to go faster. Let them change lanes. I have had men & women honk their horns when I'm going 65 in a 65 and they are going 90. I time a guy did that I refused to go faster. Cops here are very strict about drivers b/c its warm all year round & we get a lot of tourists driving & they have gotten tickets for going too slow. The cops her need to meet a Quota each moth for tickets. My friend was speeding and her ticket was over $300 USD. I have seen my Dad eat fried chicken in the car & he was from Austria. But Angela still is a mouthy jerk.

I’m an immigrant to the US and I would never recommend grits to any first timer to the States because of my reaction when someone offered it to me the first time. I heard grits and thought rocks. I grew up eating porridge and that’s what I categorize grits as, but I like sweet not savory porridge. With regard to the spitting. I just thought he got a burnt bit. Should he have spit it into his napkin? Yes. However, Angela spitting food at him was the larger violation to me. Why are we even at dinner with Skyler? Doesn’t she live with Angela? The scene was over produced and I was bored with Angela’s mood changes and aggression.
As an immigrant I still don't understand grits, so I get his reaction, lol. Spitting on him was hard to watch and on a whole other level. The way she spoke to him was crazy.

@@chrysalis4126no, the texture is similar to porridge, but the flavor is more like corn-flavored white rice, especially when it’s fixed with just butter and salt (which is the most common way to eat grits.) You could replace grits with rice in this shrimp dish and it would still work, just not as flavorful.
And just like how rice can be sweet or savory, so can grits, but most people in the US have it savory, just like rice.
I think the fried chicken thing was what it was. "Gas station chicken" is awesome if you find the right place. 🍗😋

Yes, exactly. One of my neighbors is elderly and from the South. He made my father gumbo one time and whenever I make southern fried chicken(marinated in buttermilk with spices), he always asks for some. He doesn’t like grits so I will make him either baked sweet potatoes or mashed potatoes with gravy. Both my father and my neighbor are very thin so they can afford to eat good Southern meals. 😉🥰 Whenever I make a good bbq, too, those two eat well.

Angela's uncalled-for insults to Nigerian food (I follow Nigerian cooking channels ftr; they soak their liver in milk before cooking like everyone else) notwithstanding, in the Southern and Midwestern states, good gas station chicken is a delicacy and it's normal to pick some up if you're gassing up at a station that has some. I think she was just pointing out a good thing that time, like anyone showing their country off to a fresh incomer.

Shrimp and grits is something that's very American. Specifically from the American south. All southerners are familiar with grits dishes. You can eat fish and grits, shrimp and grits, grits with cheese etc. Americans that have lineage from the American South, eat grits pretty often.
There’s no way Michael could be with Angela for love. There has never been a person more unlovable - and that’s on a show including Big Ed.
I looked at the menu for this place, Ray’s Steak and Ribs, and he probably would’ve liked the ribeye topped with grilled shrimp, because he did say he liked shrimp, so maybe it was the heavy sauce he didn’t like. And I would’ve definitely ordered the fried green tomatoes, stuffed peppers, and “gator tail bites.”
The gas station wings or chicken fingers is kind of a thing in the states, people find these little small gas stations or liquor stores that will make the best little finger foods that everyone loves to grab for a snack so that's pretty normal nationwide.
Angela... well... no matter what she says or how she says it, she's not going to come across well because she is very emotionally immature. Her overreaction and impulsivity are beyond a "relationship issue". These are her personal issues so no matter the person, she lacks some coping skills so this would not change no matter who she is with. FYI, every place that serves food had cockroaches! Even hospitals. Trust me! They come in with crates of produce. But there is a difference between a place that gets treated regularly compared to one that doesn't!
I worked night shift at a very large hospital in the lab, and at night, big cockroaches would fall from the drop ceilings in the lab. We also had huge flies that would drink the serum off the top of lab vials with blood in them. They'd get huge, some of the biggest flies I've ever seen. But yeah, any place that cooks, serves or sells food has bugs!
When I was a teenager, I worked part time in a hospital kitchen and the cook would come in early in the morning to get the roaches out of the commercial toaster before she started making toast for the patients!! For real!!
