    I would argue that perhaps he considered shoving turn to rep QQ which is what a lot of poor(?) regs would also do. Telling a believable story that vil has a strong overpair with an open ended draw and that if hero wants to continue chasing with any weak pair or draw also it'll be expensive.
    Of course with our AA it'd still be a call but villain can't know that.

It must be purely mathematical, so if all players are short stakced, now what? I can't find any strategy info on this ANYWHERE.

    I somewhat disagree with your titles on videos like this. There are a lot of videos called "How to make X in X time period". I understand you have to do what you have to do to get views but the title is a little off to me.
    The video is really educational but your viewers are kinda left to figure out the point of video is. From this video you explain a lot about 3-4 bet pots and the range of your opponent which is great to learn but I feel like viewers would benefit more from having the lesson of the video in the title to reinforce the point.
    Great video as always though. There is fantastic information in here it's just a little tricky to figure out what we're learning sometimes!

    Hi Nathan,
    Don’t you think 3betting though has expanded fairly consistently these days? 3betting at this level prob represents a solid 8-10% of many players ranges so a 3bet doesn’t have to be a super tight range as 3betting %s increase.

    • @lucascavalcantidossantos
      @lucascavalcantidossantos 3 года назад +1

      That's true in general, but not in this case given HJ 3betted UTG reg with 4 players still left to act. The ranges here are almost always going to be premium only unless all 4 players behind are very passive nits unlikely to interfer and UTG reg folds enough to 3bets to justify a polarized 3betting range that will include bluffs.
      If hero was BU 3betting HJ then 8% would make more sense.

    Man I guess I give my opponents' too much credit. I always like to try to figure out what they have and when they went all in I immediately assumed they had QQ. With a board having 9, 10, and J, the top of the open-ended straight draw plus overpair was the only thing that I thought was in their range where the semi-bluff seemed like a good play to me. But actually they had an even worse hand than that. The good news for me is that, expecting a QQ, I'd still call.

    Not sure why he'd go al in with nothing after you called his 4 bet, knwoing that you would have something pretty strong? I woild think he'd be pretty sure you had a strong pocket pair at least? Seems he would check to,you, then thunk about folding if you went all in, likely revealing that you had strong pocket pair, or hit trips? Or made a straight? (Though he likely wouldn't think you'd call a 4 bet with k-q) his AK would be at best a bluff catcher at the turn.? I watch all your videos and find them really useful.
    But your advice is always restricted to the tactics and strategy of that particular hand.
    How would you play hands where despite everything it is a 50/50 tossup as to whether you are winning or not - in other words how much uncertainty would cause you to fold? In most hands - especially on Zoom - everyone folds after the flop and very little money changes hands. The big money changes hands when 2/3 players have big hands - and this is not often. As a result the 50/50 tossup situation occurs quite frequently and has a large effect on your win rate. I suspect your answer to this question will be - the more hands you play the less the uncertainty will be!
    So in a future video can you provide an idea of the hours per day required to make $100 per day for a professional level player playing Zoom and how many names would he be playing under?

      On those stakes you have to adjust your strategy by overfolding, if its +EV. Usually someone that plays 73o isnt gonna be able to bluff you to exploit overdolf.
      Also, realize that over the long game, your move was a +EV, he just got lucky.
      Still its frustrating af, but you can adjust.

    My man, I have a question for you.
    Do you think is harder to be profitable at really low stakes like 10$ than it is at medium as 200$.
    My idea is that I should not go on upper stakes until I become profitable at lower stakes (cause I'm thinking it's gonna be even harder)
    But, sometimes it gets me crazy when I see what kind of hands I got called with.
    Or what kind of hand people think should go all in with at 10$ stakes...
    I feel like at least theplayers gonna be more responsable at higher stakes, but I'm not sure. I might just not play well enough.

    • @McRuffin
      @McRuffin 6 месяцев назад

      I’d recommend loading in 300$ for 30 buy ins in 10nl .. 0.05$/ 0.10$ is low enough for a beginner. And winning in 10nl is a good stake to make a nice chunk of change each month. Don’t start in 2nl. They aren’t all that much different. Try to grind that up. Then once you hit 30 buy ins at the next stake (750$) take a shot with 3 buy ins. If you lose that in 25nl (75$) move back down. Grind it back up and try again. Always move down if you get to 30 buy ins at the previous stake. If you can’t beat 10nl you need to study. If you don’t move back down when you lose the 3 buy ins for your shot at the next stake, you will go broke. That’s my advice. Nathan doesn’t really respond. I’m certain black rain would agree with this.

      Yes, but only 1 combo. There are 12 combos of KK + QQ and 8 combos of AK (we block 8 of 16). So he would only have AA 1/20 = 5% of the time if his range is QQ+ ,AK+. If he has anything else, then he would have AA even less often than 5%.

    Set of Jacks or a set of 10's easily could be in his range. Pocket Queens could have made that play, as they have an over and picked up an open-ended although the Queens probably lead out on the flop. I'm actually very surprised that he showed up with AK after calling the flop.

    Nice in theory. But we need to consider many factors: How often is he 4betting from utg? How is our own history with this player? Could this player be on tilt? How often did we fold to a 4bet to him? If he is a decent player depending on our own history with him I wouldn't be so sure to snapcall the turn. He might have 88, 99, KQs, or the Jacks. Sometimes maybe even 77, or Tens which hitted the turn. But I think I would call there, too. I must have very very good reasons to fold my Aces in a pot after called a 4bet preflop. Also the call makes sense. Not only because of his assumed range but also if not more because you represented weakness with your small cbet on the flop. Weaker regs often think that you would have AK and are trying to take away the pot with your small bet. Nice hand! Was this at Zoom or at regular tables? What winrates to you consider achieveable atm? (Zoom, Cashgame on "softer" sites?... Unfortunately cashgame beside Zoom seems to be nearly dead...). And would you call the All In on the turn against a player with a wide 4-bet-range preflop who is pretty good postflop? Or then play the hand differently on the flop (with a bigger Continuation Bet)?

    • @lucascavalcantidossantos
      @lucascavalcantidossantos 3 года назад +1

      It wasn't a cbet bc hero was the preflop caller. Also, the small size on flop in 4betted pot doesnt represent weakness imo. It's quite standard given the lower stack to pot ration of 4betted pots, meaning hero didnt need to bet big to get the stacks in the middle.
      The small size in 4bet pots also glues weaker hands that would fold to bigger sizes, while also leaving villain with enough room to try and bluff us with some of his air (AK), which he wouldn't have otherwise.
      We don't need protection here bc villaing only has 1 combo of flush draws (AhKh) and 0 combos of straight draws. QQ and KK have only 2 outs each. Non hearts AK is nearly half of his range and has close to 0 equity on the flop. Lots of our ev comes from not making it easy for Villain to fold AK

    • @DerDude1977
      @DerDude1977 3 года назад

      @@lucascavalcantidossantos Of course I meant bet and not cbet. But without clear reads on my opponent I wouldn't always give him such a narrow range. Depends on stats, reads and my own "history" against a player. As I mentioned, it depends on reads and the own history against villain. But I wouldn't fold my Pocket Aces here considering the "plan" for the hand which worked perfectly in this specific case. If villain is a thinking player he would know that this isn't a good bluffing spot for him given his stats (as far as we get to know in the video).

    Okay I read your article on why PokerStars is not rigged and I generally agree with all your comments but I would tend to say that from my experience and of course this is not a sample satisfactory enough it begs a question whether the down swings and up swings in the hands do not promote depositing money to the account again by players thus driving profit. Yesterday and today I played something around a 200 hands sample which we know from the statistics 120 sample is enough for some normal distribution to be tested by the T-student or other Gauss based methods. I played some super solid poker and had good reads, seriously. I got tilted 7 (seven!) times in a row by a river card forming a set of 3s, 5s or 7s and the likes. That doesn't mean PokerStars is rigged, but I think it promotes major swings so that you spend money and go all in and you keep on playing. Otherwise half a billion dollars profit every year would not happen if the losers always lost and the winners would always win. The popularity of such a platform would quickly diminish and we all know addressable market and ranges are super important. You need volume of players and games, tournaments, hands to make profit. This is how the propagation works and there has to be a sense that everybody can win which we know is not true. So not to say that PokerStars is rigged, but I would err on the side of doubt that it is purposefully skewed so that it is interesting, there are major swings in the hands artificially amplified and everybody can win, even the stupid players against the odds. For your benefit, money was not involved, I was simply training in poker tokens, not real money. What is the probability that a river card beats a higher hand 7 times in a row? Simplified math says 2/52 (assuming no one folded the fourth set forming card) to the power of 7... which is circa 4%^7... I should play bingo or lotto perhaps, but I say it is so unlikely that I don't think this is an incidence and blind RNG. It is so skewed AF. To conclude, your article has all the right arguments why PokerStars is not rigged, but it doesn't answer the key question are the hands generated there not skewed. I suspect they might be to promote volatility. Theoretically if we believe they provide accurate data sets we could download all the history and check probabilities versus reality and check the variance. But they don't even react to the hands where I pinpointed errors (I had a hand when I lost with a set against a straight, the only problem was the guy did not have a straight and the system generated some stupid comment that the opponent won with a straight 9 to Ace which is absurd).

      I've been playing online poker since 2001 and I can tell you it is rigged for the exact reasons you listed. Sometime around 2008 the software across the industry became a lot more sophisticated and it became less easy to win. My general estimate is it is connected to deposit/withdrawal/win/loss/time played/hands played and the "random deck" pops the river to the assigned winner by the algorithm. Previous to roughly 2008 it was a lot more random but these days if you play long enough online you will see the patterns. The software has only become more and more sophisticated as time has passed. One day it will probably come out.

So this is a totally fictional fantasy that a player would jam overbet all-in with AK and give all his money away. Would never happen in real life. Just a ridiculous example if u ask me.
