The main reason I checked out this video is because I've recently learned that nearly every cotton product these days is sprayed with Monsanto glyphosate, which can cause cancer. It is in tampons as well as other feminine hygiene products such as disposable panty liners which is what I've been using for years. Maybe organic hemp fabric would be a better choice over today's cottons. Thanks for a great video, StyleNovice!
Cute and easy tutorial! I would suggest not sewing that final line through all the layers, as any menstrual fluid may leak through the sewing holes. Instead, I usually sew the small pieces to the back of the top outer piece with a five centimeter line, THEN sew the outer pieces right sides together, THEN flip inside out.
where abouts on the panty liner do you stitch them together then if not a line down the midde? sorry trying to understand for when i make mine later this week! x
Kathryn Louise to the left and right rather than down the middle. She is right...my first batch of washables I sewed down the middle and it was the only place that there was any seepage. I unpicked the line and stitched at the sides and no more seeping!
One should think about all the rubbish heaps which grow every day bigger. That should be something to think about. I try it out. I use liners when I go for my regular workout. Sweat will be absorbed. And the disposable liners are not cheap. I give it a try.
Carmen Pohl yes, when I came upon a video saying that the disposables take lots of years to decompose, I was like what have I been doing all this time?...thinking about how ‘it’ still exists somewhere out there, was enough to bring me to this option.
at first I thought "why would I make these?" but then I thought of all the money I spend on panty liners between myself, my daughter and soon to be stepdaughter and it makes more sense, thanks for the idea, I would never have thought of it =)
Thank you for this video, this is an amazing way to reduce waste! Think about how many pads and tampons you use a month, including all the plastic packaging, that go directly into landfills. Creating items for ourselves that are reusable OR purchasing hygiene products such as the diva cup are a way for women to significantly reduce the waste we produce daily. Not to mention the chemicals they put into pads and tampons that we keep so close to our bodies and reproductive organs, I wonder how much ovarian complications are due to this... Women, we must understand deeper what is we are doing to our bodies and the earth, we must respect our Divine Wombs - our bodies and Mother Earth!
wow I just googled this to see if there was anything out there like this. I was allergic to disposable diapers as a child. So as an adult I've found I was also sensitive to pads. Therefore left no choice but using tampons all these years. Think I'm going to give this a try.
They are actually considered to be more comfortable, generally speaking. They are also healthier and cheaper. Also, why do people care what other people put in their pants?
I've made these but the inner core became scrambled up. So I made them again with only three big layers of flanel and they work perfect! Thank you for the inspiration
Nice video and steps, but it would be much simpler and save sooo much time just to stack the layers how you want them to come out, and sew the edges together with the raw edges out. They won't ravel past the stitching and will be nice and soft. Sewing and turning and tucking in the extra liner takes so much extra time and effort.

No more being caught out by running out of sanitary wear and because I make mine from heavy to light flow I can adapt which ones I need on a daily basis. The flannel has a bit of surface “grip” so they should not shift much unless your panties are loose or have a narrow gusset. If you find they do, you could use a little twill tape and a snap to make a “wing” that wraps around the panty gusset. There are also patterns out there with wings.

Quilty Girl I use reusable pantyliners, but mine have wings with a snap, so they fasten around your underwear, similar to normal maxipads with wings. I don't have a problem with them moving around.
+Danielle Stormborn If you're comfortable wearing regular menstrual pads, then these liners should feel like nothing in comparison. Depending on your flow you might not be as worried about leaks and you could probably do without the inner pieces. But I know a lot of women who need to wear tampons AND pads because their flow is so heavy, and I feel like these liners would reduce that bulky, almost diaper-y feeling regular pads have. Plus, as she says in the video, the material only gets softer the more you wash it, so the more you wear them, the more accustomed you are and the comfier it feels. I've yet to make/try them myself but I'm definitely a fan of the concept above disposable liners and pads.
