The moment when Hedwig’s Theme was first played on screen with the actual movie before premiere in 2001, it marked the beginning of an era and an entire universe.
Hearing this theme will always give me that nostalgic feeling of being a kid and watching Harry Potter. Literally watching someone my age grow up before my eyes in a magical world was truly amazing.
John Williams is the greatest of all time by such a large margin its incredible. Harry Potter, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Superman, Jaws, all of them iconic.
@@johnk9924 To be fair I don't know how to measure this and perhaps you have listened to many composers. But I feel like he is overrated, or other composers are downplayed when you call him the greatest by a large margin. Basil Pouledoris, John Debney, James Horner, Howard Shore and many many more..
@@lm7338 I do love all those composers. I can respect your opinion that he's overrated but he's my personal favorite. There's a great podcast for film scores called the soundtrack show where the host breaks down film scores and the composer's background and inspiration. Granted most of them are about john Williams and howerd shore but There's a great early one on Erich korngold. You might enjoy it.
The first film came out when I was in high school. A friend of my who was obsessed with the books had to run and see the movie. I went with her having never read the books. I was entranced with the music straight off the bat. Waited to leave so I could see the credits curious to know who composed the music. I geeked out so hard when I saw John WIlliams name. My friend didn't understand the big deal, but that made me love the film even more.
I've listened to thousands of hours of John William's soundtracks in the last twenty years. I didn't know until today he was American... I thought he was English.
1:41 very interesting, Hedwig’s theme in C# minor instead of E minor. Does this appear anywhere in the movie? Also has a slightly different cadence, a G# where there would usually be a G natural in the pattern of the normal Hedwig’s theme
That's me playing the celesta at 1:41 when I was 17. I was visiting the Kasimoff Blüthner Piano Company in Los Angeles and Warner Brothers happened to be there filming the celesta for this feature. They asked if I could play Hedwig's theme so I picked it out by ear and from memory - hence the wrong key, imperfect melody, and unnecessary 1-3-5 pattern in the bass. They also had me play it repeatedly for 45 minutes, and the playing definitely lost some of its mysteriousness over that time! But this was really fun and a great learning experience for those reasons.
Harry Potter... Star Wars... Jaws... Close Encounters... Superman... Raiders of the Lost Ark... ET... Home Alone... Jurassic Park... all epic soundtracks. John Williams is the best composer of all time. Period.

you should listen to more music, because the margine isn't that large.
@@lm7338 so I should listen to more music because you agree he's the best but not by that much?

John Williams is simply the best
For real, this guy literally created probably one of the greatest songs and easiest to recognize because of how perfect it is for the theme.

John Williams is a legend, No doubt!
Amazing
3/4 or 6/8 in 1 or 2??
Which midi keyboard he is using anyone?
I liked Hedwig’s theme best when I first heard it... as Swan Lake.
hola
It always had similarities to lake of swan for me
Hasn't seen the film, maybe he read the books
Though it is composed by an American, it'll be always a British theme for me. Change my mind.
