Countryballs was originally called Polandball by the original creator. They speak in broken English mostly because English is not their first language and the word clay is just a stand in for land so when a countryball says anything about clay they mean land. Finally a countryball comic is only as offensive as a artist who drew it, so it really does depend.

Within the Countryballs community (Or as per their Official Name, Polandball), The word "Clay" is often used within non-english speaking countries to refer to Land.
Countries that do have English as their Official language speak Normal English, While those who don't speak in what's known as Broken English, This dates back to the Very First Comics that started it all, As they used Broken English to poke fun out of other internet users bad writing skills.
Also, the "Red-White" Countryball represents Poland. The Polish flag is Always drawn Upsidedown, because there's the old joke that "Everything's upside down in Poland!", Mainly because they always tend to get the short end of the stick on History (As an Example we have the Polish Split in WW2, The invasions of Poland-Lithuania, and the Times of the Warsaw Pact.)
Countryballs is often called "Offensive", But this is simy due to the Sometimes Offensive and Sensitive nature of certain Historical or even Current Events, Which is generally the exact topic of a lot of Jokes within Countryballs comics.
Hope this is enough to clarify most things regarding Countryballs.

Some tips to understand about Countryballs:
-Most Balls speak broken English mixed with the represented Country's Native Language, it also applies to Accents.
-The Polish Flag is usually flipped so it may be confused with Indonesia.
    -'Clay' means land.
-They are usually Jokes about Modern Politics or History, or a mix of Political History Jokes.
-There are alternate based on Alternate Timelines in the Past or predictions about the Future or just Current Events.

"Gib clay" = "Give me land"
Belgium says no, because they don't wanna give land back to The Netherlands.
Germany says no, because they don't want to give away land.
So The Netherlands turn to the waters, which doesn't say no, so they take land from the waters.
Examples: the entire province of Flevoland, the Haarlemmermeerpolder, Amsterdam (at least partially).
    So, The Netherlands grow.

13:18 That was a joke of / a reference to Khrushchev being denied access to Disneyland on his visit to America, to ”protect” him. He did not take too well to it. It even hints to Khrushchev with that ”I will bury you.” -line. Khrushchev said to the USA that: ”We will bury you.”, the ”We” referring to the international proletariate; which the USA government misunderstood as a threat of war; which, of course, caused some controversy.

edit: I just got the joke when I looked at what he read as "something something." This appears to be text in an Inuit language. I don't know much about them, but I recognize the look of it. Quebec asked for "the native language of Quebec" so English Canada learned Inuit. lol That's pretty good.

    Hey Terry!
France, here. In fact, Napoleon sold Louisianan at a terrible loss and quickly because the economy couldn't keep up with the expensive trade route while he got his african fleet shatered in the meantime. Napoleon wasn't dumb enough to sell for quick money. There was way quicker money just down the road for him, any direction. Including the one we usually fart in.
And we don't hate our His Majesty Louis Capet: in fact we regret him. a Lot. Including number XIV. The republic is being hated more and more, though. Even Philip the Fair is sourly missed. Banking reasons, I have to believe. And winter is getting colder and colder. Yeah, oui're solar energy based: no stakes, no fire, no Sun King, no working.
As for Ireland and potatoes, well. Ireland had a potato crisis which led to famine for many decaades. There's a Cruise/Kidman movie mentioning it and telling about the irish immigration to the US that it induced, it's called Far & Away. It's really good!

14:30 - I thought the out of thin air was more about our methods, such as fractional reserve lending (allowing banks to lend 10 times what they hold in their coffers), which multiplies the amount of currency 10 fold by digital means rather than involving actual printing. So not only is paper not needed but also the rate of inflation in terms of increasing cash in the system increases (artificial means of slowing the rise of prices has had surprising effectiveness in delaying the inevitable).

There is a lot of these to break down for the one that I personally like the most in this episode was the joke about France and Britain hating each other so much that written doesn't want to use a quote unquote transport a word in their French language until they realize that English is technically rebuild with Normandy language which means technically it's a part of France so in other words various other words like b for example are from France

  • @DanTheCaptain

Tim Hortons or Timmies as people like to call it can be found literally everywhere in Canada. However, the joke is primarily about the language preservation efforts of Quebec, and the general Quebecoise attitude towards people not speaking French. Outside of Ottawa or Montreal, French is pretty much the sole language spoken and a lot of people may not even know English. The comic plays on the fact, that when we anglophones come into Quebec and try to speak French, some may become angry or frustrated. Especially when we then proceed to butcher the language as we rely on whatever elementary school French we still have left in our brain. The joke at the end was possibly in reference to CanadaBall speaking an indigenous language instead of French. The script used was created by a missionary to use for indigenous languages, and today is mostly synonymous with Inuktitut spoken by the Inuit in Nunavut territory.

French Fries ( 14:51 ): I'm pretty sure they were invented in Belgium as you said; but the name is in reference to the unit of measurement. well, it kinda depends on what you're refereing to. the Belgian fry is a specific way of baking it (as far as i understand it mostly just means baking them twice, but thats beside the point). but usually when fries are on the menu, theyre only baked once, so then its fair to call them french fries, since the whole idea of frying at all does appear to be french.
And just to be clear, this is coming from a Belgian who made a whole video about this topic. i did some research is all im saying

    Clay = Land/territory
Red/white ball = Poland (Indonesia has a hat and Monaco has sunglasses)
Countryballs can be offensive or not, as long as it furthers the homour and story
All countries (except for English speaking ones) speak in Engrish
And it isn't really that surprising that the voice acting is good, since Limenade is a professional voice actor

not sure why they went with "gib clay" for the words, but i think that was refering to the Dutch wanting land to live on, so they just turned sea into land

In the 'gib clay' thing nobody mentions how the Netherlands MAKES their own land (at least that's what they do in Civ 6 :)) so nobody gives them land so fine they make their own. in the ocean

Too bad there was no Reichtangle comic in this one... ^^

How to avoid tariffs. Make the product in the country you intend to sell it in. If you are selling the product in America, you make it in America with domestic sourced materials, where possible same goes for if it's any other country around the globe. You avoid the tariffs you put locals to work it's a win win of sorts. Tariffs were meant to be the source of income for America on its founding not taxing the income of citizens into oblivion.

Poland is always drawn with an upside down flag in Polandball, clay means land, the comics are only as offensive as the creator makes them, bad grammar is specific to non-English speaking countries

  • @jamozmynamoz6516
    @jamozmynamoz6516 2 года назад +4

I wouldn' tsay that countryballs are offensive, although some can be if the creator wants them to. The majority are often stereotypical, for example the America countryball is fat and likes funs in most comics. This is also why their english is broken, since those countries are mostly not great at English. The word "clay" is another word for "land" in the comics.
You should also check No Idea Animation and PWA, their videos are awesome and are just an animated version of this. Limenade's series is also good, so I would continue it. Just a recommendation!
