    Great video. I'm born and raised in Munich and have been living here for 34 years now. I've been to the Wiesn 100+ times. And, honestly, it wouldn't be half the fun without tourists. @@Austriankiwi I just wanted to mention the same. I think the main problem is that you tried to talk to them in German. So they tried to answer you in German which - and this is funny - is almost as difficult as for you. Most of these people who are from Bavaria and used to speak in a Bavarian accent like you do in Austria. I am pretty sure you would understand more if you would talk in Austrian for Bavarians will understand about 95% of what you say and same should work for you. There are some specific words that are different and the pronounciation in generall. But 95% of the words and grammar are basically the same. As for me I understand your Austrian so well I thought you were a native Austrian and you were just making fun about the fact that so many Austrians and Germans simply can't speak clear German.
      Btw: the place where the Octoberfest is held is called "Theresienwiese", named after Princess Therese of Sachsen-Hildburghausen who was married to Ludwig I. When going there it was considered with the place of the whole festival and that later made it to the nickname "Wies'n". :)

    I'm working right beside the Wiesn. I'm a Canadian living in Germany for close to 8 years.
    When you mention that they put up the tents and put them down, that sounded like it's a quick thing, in fact they start erecting the structures in June and as of yesterday they are far from finish dismantling it. It's roughly 5 + months work for the 3 week-ends. There is a huge crew of people and construction workers spending more half their years on this event alone. It's fun around the office when it's in full swing. We organize lunch at the Wiesn and some evening events. When people come to work waring Trachten you know how their day is going to conclude. :D

    Been watching a few of your videos in a row and somehow Australia came up in most of them. If that's on purpose I'm here for it. I feel like there's some weird mutual love between Austria and Australia. Aussie banter and humor track perfectly to my viennese sensibilities at least. The aussie pub being the highlight of your stop in vienna during the road trip felt like the most authentic austrian moment on youtube. Getting shitfaced, playing games that get you hurt and calling your best friends by slurs is the true AU/AT connection.

    I lived for many years literally next to the Wiesn on Pettenkoferstraße- and I loved it. Of course, I went several times every Oktoberfest and I have not one nasty experience to report. Yes, the beer is much stronger, so to prepare yourself you have fresh Brezn and Weisswürschterl (which you order from Vinzenz Murr butcher beforehand) and a Weißbier around 11am at home, with friends or family that come over. At around 2pm you make your way over - we normally went first to Käfer‘s Biergarten for a Maß, maybe a Brotzeit and then onwards to Bräurosl tent. You always find a table to sit (which you need in order to be served) - but not on the weekends! So best is to go under the week, keep in mind thatcher After Wies‘n is Wednesday till Sunday, in case you want to party all night long.
    Pace yourself on the amount of beer, always have a water in between and something to eat. That way I have no problem to handle five or more Maß, over the course of several hours between 2pm till 10:30pm.
    For sure you meet sooo many new people you have adhoc fun with from all over the world. It really is amazing!
    I had once my sister and her best friend over for a visit, and when we walked home deciding to continue there were these people from France who parked their car in Pettenkoferstraße and still played music, so we joined them and more people joined in, that old man with a wooden cart filling ice cold bottled Weißbier walked by and sold us his beer, we danced in the street till 3am! Just wonderful. I went down at 10am and brought them a thermos of freshly brewed coffee and butter Brezn before they headed back to France.
    I also loved the time anyways, as Munich really turns into a vibrating international capital for the two weeks, supermarket workers in Dirndls or Lederhosn and everybody is exciting, normally the weather is gorgeous and the vines are so positive!
    I loved my time living in Munich. Now I moved tonte country side near the Austrian border and enjoy a more relaxed life. But we have Oktoberfest here, too!

    I think it's so special, cause all generations go and are united. Same thing in a smaller city, and you only see old people, gray hair, eating Bratwurst.
    Trying to get a Bratwurst on Oktoberfest is quiet a challange. It exists. They have real food on porcellan plates. It has style.

    In some videos, you can see, that the foam of the beer is half of the glass. I means it's impressive that the waiters can carry such heavy load but i doubt the beer to be 1 Liter. But it's impressive that you had a contract to, i don't know advertise the Munich Oktoberfest.
    But "Hawara, sauf net so fui"! Your beer consumption appears to be quite impressive but seriously, try to not drink so much, cause i had my uncle to "vomit his liver out" when he died. This is a seriouse thread when being an alcoholic. Best

    • @holger_p
      @holger_p Год назад

      You know the foam converts into liquid, after a while. There is no other way to serve it, and it most often fits.
      Drink on one day is no indication for beeing an alcoholic.
      Actually, having 10 beers, staying upright, not vomiting, is more a sign of an alcoholic, you show you are in training.
