I researched it. When she writes, she stays up for days on end because of the unique mindset doing so creates, and she sometimes uses drugs to keep awake and to enhance that mindset.

@barudzija7 What would that have to do with a city being random or not? Austin has always been second to Nashville as the music capital of the South. The idea of Austin having a vibrant music scene has been around longer than Grimes and this interviewer have been alive. Plus, SXSW and ACL have attracted bands from all over North America for years as opportunities for them to break out.

I'd say experiences of any kind, be it drugs or tragedies or places or people (etc), is what makes music, and all kinds of art forms, good/great/fantastic/relatable etc. A completely sober person could make music much more creative and better than someone on drugs; it would obviously be two completely different kinds of music - that, I don't contradict. But if you're saying you need drugs to make good music (art), then I disagree with you.
