every new bandsaw needs a proper setup and when you buy a used one as well in this video i show you how this 9 inch bandsaw gets setup so it will operate as it should
@@KevinMillard68 I still have slight drift to the left when cutting. I've done everything with the set up and it all seems fine but It still drifts left about 3/4 of an inch over a 6" board cut. Any further tips?
@@jeffjanczyszyn4652 what thickness of wood are you cutting and are you measuring the fence at both ends before you make the cut also watch the pressure you do add as well when feeding and maybe tighten up the blade a bit more as well
@@KevinMillard68 will do, I'm only cutting 1x material, not using the fence just the slide miter. I'm guessing at this point the table is slightly out of square even though I thought I had it set up right.
I've got a question about the tension. I understand that clockwise tightens and vice-versa but how much tension do you need and how do you determine that tension? I heard you twanging the blade. Are you listening for something specific?
aot if its feel for sure the manual is not 100% clear on the tension but you dont want to lose or it will fly off the wheels you dont want to tight where is struggles to fire up either you find the sweet sport bascially
Took me almost two hours, and I had to run to the store to get the feeler gauges, but for the first time ever my Mastercraft bandsaw (just like you have here) is actually cutting a straight line. Thank you!!!
Great job Kev....too many people think you can just use it straight out of the box then complain when things cut weird and blame the saw. 🙄 Thanks for showing us how to set one up and what to look for. 😃👍👌
well you got something not setup right that or you have a defective saw carfully go thru the instrucions with the set up and try again if that fails get it replaced as it might justhave a problem
try to tighten up the blade a bit sounds like its to lose , also push slow on thicker peices and dont expect it to do all the work and mesure the distance on both sides of the fence to make sure its dead on the front and back other wise that can also cause drift when cutting, and make sure the clearence of the blade is dead on for the least amunt of play side to side on the blocks or again it will drift
The blade adjustment requires 2 types of allen wrench. A 3/16 for 1 screw and a metric 1.5 for the other. Canadian tire do not sell these allen wrenchs and do not sell the .002 gauge.
Installing a new blade made a huge difference. It cuts straight, fast and smooth cutting. Very happy with this equipment now.
good stuff
I've got this exact saw, and the manual is kinda brutal. Thanks for the video :)

Thank you very much for taking the time to show the setup my bandsaw is now working great Danial

Hey Kevin...have you ever lived in North Bay?
yup lived there for 30 years then moved to the country here 6 years ago
"They don't give you a whole lotta to go by"...That's what I said! I'm glad that an expert is also a bit confused by the instructions.
ya they suck for instructions on lots of their stuff

Mine is spring loaded and the spring determines the tension.

Thank you so much for this video. The instruction booklet was really hard to follow and not nearly as helpful as your video!
You're very welcome!

yup yup
I can’t even get my blade to stay on. It’s driving me nuts. It came off and now I’m thinking I must just need to get a new saw. I don’t get it

Perfect in depth description thanks for the video which certainly gave me some education on setting up. 🍻 cheers.

Thank you for this video. I have the same saw and after following your video my bandsaw still drifts to the right. Can you give any advice?

you can buy allen key kits and you can also get the feeler guages as well. from C tire
nope...I went to 3 Canadian Tires and they did not have the gauge nor the allen wrench
