I’m looking to make the jump from company to owner op. This was good video to watch trying to figure out everything I need and how much to save. Wanna get a 579 Pete when I’m ready.
Didn't hear you mention anything about the line system and those dispatchers who be hiding loads....hmmm you can be sitting for days a good load can pop up you pre select it and hear the number 2 guy got it after sitting for 3 days. If they would get rid of that line crap it would be a good company I feel like the monitor you money
Subbed! Any updates to how it’s going there at Mercer? I haven’t heard a bad word about them, so I’m anxious to hear how consistent they are. The TONU pay story gives the impression that they actually do think of the driver and owner.
Congrats on your new endeavors so far, will be watching for more!! Also, check out fogline trucking software... think it tracks IFTA and all of the goodies.
TruckerPound Game I’m on the van side as well. Your net will be different than his or my net for obvious reasons - you may or may not have a truck payment for instance. I can tell you that I averaged just over 1.60 per mile to the truck for all dispatched miles I ran last year. You will need to plug in your own numbers to see if that works for you.
OTRjournal totally understand, I guess I'm trying to see are the loads plentiful enough to run my truck as a team. The recruiter says I'll gross 5k a week as a team but I did that solo at greatwide
TruckerPound Game you could run as a team and in certain circumstances I could see you making significantly more money than solo but it really isn’t set up as a big miles team based system, in my opinion.
TruckerPound Game there are areas where there are few good loads, like Florida or Colorado, but for the most part I don’t have trouble staying in good freight areas. You can self dispatch if you like, basically you find a load you like then have a broker book it for you.
Besides the down payment for the truck and whatever I want to have set aside for a maintenance account, how much money do you think I would need for all the equipment and any extra stuff I'll need to start?
When you lease on to a company do you and the company seat down and come up with a contract I would have added on load consolation if you was already at the shipper .
As much as possible. It's kind of hard to put a number on it. Everyone's situation is different. Upfront cost if you go flatbed is 50% down for all equipment, and Elog. (unless you already have your equipment) which was somewhere around 2k. Then what ever costs you accrue during inspection. That's where the money fluctuates a lot. For me it was 350.00, I know of people who had to put out a few thousand to pass Mercer's inspection. Plus the cost of your 2290 which is 550.00 per year. If you call a recruiter they could probably give you more solid numbers.
I don't have my truck yet I'm fighting through some audits that the government throughout me from 2014 but does Mercer have trucks down there that I can just lease on to jump in type thing
Been driving for 20years and finally thinking about going to mercer or landstar. Are those the best for owner op newbies. Also should i physically visit mercer.
I used to be with landstar for 3year They fired me ( cheating on log) . Now I'm with mercer . I will recommend landstar more load option . You don't have to wait in line for load. Who ever call first he get the load. With landstar I used to make 4500 to 5000 a week. With mercer in 5 week so far I mad 12610. Good luck
violet precious yes. Our fuel card is our money. They don't take fuel out of your settlement. When you get a load, they offer a 50% advance on the load if you need it for fuel, maintenance, etc. So the money on the "fuel card" is yours to spend wherever you need to spend it.
I can't speak for the Flat/Step side. They see higher rates. For Van, heck no.. Honestly, I'll sound like a broken record, but getting your own Authority is the best way to go. As for leasing on, get with one of these companies that give you 90% and access to spot market/load boards. Mercer does not have the Van freight and their rates are really low for Van.
BroDojo Sensei Yes, I had them upgrade it to a 13 speed. I've driven automatics before, and didn't really care for them too much. There also weren't any autos available at the time, so I wouldn't know about the price difference from Lone Mountain.
so from what i understand you, and a lot like you. "own" your truck but are signed on with mercer to find your loads so you're basically a "contractor" so to say?

How much did have to come out of pocket for the flatbed equipment
Where did you get the chains and rack
How much you save to do this move? How much experience in cypress... I work for cypress
Does the truck have to be a certain age or just pass their inspection to sign on?
So does Mercer offer all aluminum flatbeds on there lease or all combo flats
Did you buy your truck or are you leasing it?
Are you still with them
Hi man what is the average load count for stepdeck and flatbed and the average per mile?
Hi, I liked your video. You should check out “trucking business and beyond”. With Kevin Rutherford, Xm 148. He is all about owner ops. Good luck
Do they have lease purchase?
How much flatbed experience do you need to get on with them?
How much money would you recommend having on hand when coming to Mercer

How is the money like ?
Thinking about joining Mercer i already talked to recruiting but i want to talk to a driver about a few things
How much percentage they want off the load?
Owners get 75% of the load plus 100% fuel surcharge.
@@TrukYeah 25%? That's a bit much😓
Coming on your videos a year later lol but hows it going at Mercer
Good video, I've been thinking about going to Mercer, do they give you a fuel card?

TrukYeah do they help you with repairs like landstar?
Can you lease a 53ft trailer?
Preston Rubin they only have 48' Flats. I'm not 100% what they have on the step-deck side.
So you can lease a stepdeck
Yes
You still making some decent money? I'm thinking about getting one and Mercer is my first choice
Definitely still making money. Been too busy to put a video out. lol

You bought your truck with a stick? What was the price difference for an auto that would save you a bit more in gas over time?
BroDojo Sensei Yes, I had them upgrade it to a 13 speed. I've driven automatics before, and didn't really care for them too much. There also weren't any autos available at the time, so I wouldn't know about the price difference from Lone Mountain.
TrukYeah what didn’t you like about the automatic?🤔
so from what i understand you, and a lot like you. "own" your truck but are signed on with mercer to find your loads so you're basically a "contractor" so to say?
Justin S You would be correct.
