I saw this in theaters on opening weekend. I had never heard of it, but it was showing and I wanted to see a movie. The only people in the theater were me and my buddy and like 12 other people. The following week after the one-liners spread like wildfire, EVERYONE had seen it at my Highschool. Lol

No movies should cost what they do to make them. Everything cost related to a movie is so inflated because they're expecting such a high return. I'm not sure if it's true but I heard that a set at universal costs $9,000 an hour. How? Perfect example of why there are homeless people.

"Show biz" is BUSINESS! If the written contract said 10% (or didn't require independently audited financials) then one may lose on a handshake "deal." In some locales oral contracts may be valid for a short, fixed period of time.
45 bucks a day back in the days was good money because I remember minimum wage was $48 dollars a day in California so I’m guessing in that state the minimum wage was $35 even less so he was getting pay pretty good
I was a projectionist building prints and this was my first build! Those film reels that came in the universal studio tins and with armored transport were no joke carrying around. Truly an experience to remember.
Interesting info. One suggestion, maybe try to level out your tone at the start of your sentences . It sounds like your voice is being pitched up then drops back down. Not a criticism, just a suggestion. Great job.
This regularly happens in the music business as well. Contracts are often not paid at the royalty level that was agreed. They make people fight them in court. My neighbor’s son had a record label with bands that were regularly on the radio and Warner brothers just ceased royalty payments claiming that the small label didn’t actually own any rights and they had to fight them in court over what would have been around $20k. After attorney fees, they would have lost money so they just walked away.
I always find it bazaar that people are happy to make a deal when they think the project will flop but then when there's actually a lot of money involved suddenly they are unhappy with the percentage they agreed to. They are happy about 66% of little but unhappy about 66% of a lot?
Same thing happened with the McDonald’s brothers the family got screwed out of the 1% royalties for every sale McDonald’s makes today would amount to 100 million a year in royalties.
I've met John Heder when he went to an amusement park here in Salem OR called enchanted forest. Really cool guy I even learned we went to the same high school. Not at the same time though he graduated like 10 years before I started
This is something similar to what happened with the Chapelle show. Comedy Central said they would split the profit with David Chappelle 50-50 but when they found out the show had made $50 million they only wanted to give him 10%. and when he refused to play the game, they said they would destroy him in social media by telling the world that he had become mentally unstable. you can probably do some research and find were Dave Chapelle explains this on stage . I think it’s on Netflix.
Get it on paper, then make 2 copies. 1 for each party involved. That way if one side tries to screw the other you will have proof that will hopefully get you a win in court
It did not cost 400k to make. The total production cost was actually closer to 17k. Which makes 1k payday make sense. If you wanna say they spent 400k on marketing AFTER the movie was a success then maybe that number makes sense. But even then that's money spent on not the actual making of the movie. But they absolutely did NOT have 400k to make Napoleon Dynamite.
Jon Heder knew my son's band member Matt. He was at Matt's house when they had a party but my son was not able to make it. I mentioned that because Matt showed him a picture of my son with that same look on his face and Jon Heder said that my son Andrew would have been perfect for the role of Napoleon Dynamite because his hair with naturally curly and he had that look down perfectly.
