If you are looking for other DIY projects to work on, I just made a video about how to make a digital pet scale with an Arduino Uno. You can check it out here: ruclips.net/video/P-fGgXq-RAM/видео.html
I know you made this years ago, but I think you did a really awesome job. You remind me so much of my son when he was that age. His creativity to invent things and in this video you look so much like he did, even hat backwards! Thanks for sharing, I am working on my very 1st solar oven.
Thank you. Building a solar oven was a very rewarding experience for me. I want to make another one again this time including some sensors, but I'll probably wait in that since I don't live in a place with good solar access
Yes. As long as you protect it from the whether it can last a long time. on the other hand, if you have access to more durable materials then that would be preferable, although the price would increase
Nice looking oven. So a black inside works better than a reflective inside? Everybody is wondering about that. I see in the vid that your pops wants to be part of your successful build. And you let him. I like that you went the extra mile and made a big reflector. I am in the process of building my first oven. It gets hot as hell on my balcony! I expect good results.
Thanks. My father and I built the oven together. It took a few days of interrupted work. You should get good results. The black interior is better in this case because when I tried the reflective surface, a lot of energy was reflected back outside. Be sure to insulate the walls as much as possible. Good luck
Just make certain to use black poster board or paper. Don't 'paint' it black, because you'll be able to 'taste' the paint in the food. And that's gross!
I didn't have time to respond at the time, but I think it's also a good idea to use closed black pots for cooking. Regarding the black walls, those are the results I got based on this design. However, I have later tried another oven with walls covered in aluminum foil and tilted at an angle. They seemed to do a good job of concentrating more heat inside the oven.
Well done..tho in keeping with cardboard theme i would.get thick poster board and a sheet of mylar and glue to it..cut to make four reflectors using zip ties to make.it foldable.
The maximum reached so far is 125° C. However, this oven loses some heat thorugh the walls. I am pretty sure it could reach more by making the walls thicker. The mirror should be clear so it can reflect the light better. The reflection area of the mirror also influences how high the temperature gets.
Since this video was made 7 years ago I'm curious if you still use the solar oven, well...maybe not that one you made but another one, is it still a tool in your household? And..good job by the way, very well done.
We actually still have this solar oven at my parents house. It hasn't been used much since then. I left for college pretty soon after this video so I wasn't there to try it. I'm surprised the materials held up pretty well so far
Instead of foil use 1$ space blanket , its more reflective but wont break like a mirror Glass can be used from an old scanner ... mirrors can be bought at dollar tree....
That's a good idea. The mirror can get heavy, so anything that can offer a relatively similar performance but with let's hassle would be great. The foil reflector was just a prototype for an smaller oven that I built previously for practice.
Carlos Andrés Berejnoi Bejarano you want the weight to be on the bottom so i still recommend mirrors in the box as mylar will melt in high heat ...Mylar reflectors made from it and like " bendable" styro foam is good choice... Old LCD displays ( the plastic lens) are good choice as its also light weight...( use the side without the ridges)

What a great idea here, thanks for sharing your knowledge and taking the time to record this as well, cheers.
My pleasure!
Great Craftmanship.. ..Looks Real Good.. Thanks for the video..
You are welcome. It makes a great way to cook food while being sustainable
this is awesome.. very convenient and very economical..

Great job guys!

Thanx,it helped!!
glad to hear it was helpful

That sounds like a great system. I may try something like that when I build another one
aside from glass and blanket what other things you can use ?
You could replace the glass with a pane of cardboard covered in aluminum foil. It should provide sufficient reflection.
Best advice at 04:30. My experience is the same. All black inside works best.
I'm happy to hear more confirmation about this.
Quite ingenious.. what temp does it get with the reflector.? Any mirror could be used..

could you give me a list of the materials used? thanks
Yes, the materials are listed in the description.

Q?
Does a reflector realy maters?
Will it increase the heat? Or not that much?
the reflector can really make a difference with regards to the temperature . The more area that reflects inside the omen, the better,
I also done this job
Instead of foil use 1$ space blanket , its more reflective but wont break like a mirror
Glass can be used from an old scanner ...
mirrors can be bought at dollar tree....

wth do u have sandles
Cuz he can
what language they speak??
we are speaking Spanish
Carlos Andrés Berejnoi Bejarano OK thanks :)
nice crocks
thanks
this soler cooker is bad
Sorry for the delay. I got busy and couldn't get back to answering. This oven can certainly be improved especially after testing other designs.
