Surprised the TR8S is in the mix but w/e. Are you running multiple outs? Your setup is manic, I love you have every space used, not filled with random toys but real work horses. :D
TR-8S: no, just the stereo mix outs, which is good enough for throwaway things like this. When I record fully produced tracks, I solo things and record them one at a time. Setup: yep, thanks. I don't want to be a collector, but I use every single synth I have, and make them available via DenverSynth.com where I rent them to friends.
@@Manmademadman yeah gotcha. You ever use the ducking feature of the 8S? I used to do this with my stock 08 then sold that and got a SP16 due to 8 individual outs and the P6 filter.
@@Manmademadman I thin k when I did this I was running the ducking out separately and had kick/snare on 3/4 out. 08 only had 4 outs. So I ran a bass synth in for live ducking, was tied obviously to the kick but it was so much fun as you could tweak live how much ducking. I miss this feature as it is so immediate and easy to use. It also helps with live perfs to have more control of what you're doing rather than in post. I wanted a 08S for ages but there was either none isn't stock or for a good $. I have an Akai Force now which does more than I can imagine, Try the ducking for live perfs, you will love it, it can be subtle or absolutely life sucking.
Absolutely. Despite its appearance (and internet people hating on it) the TR-8S is my favorite drum machine ever. Further testimonial: I am privileged enough to be able to to own any drum machine I want (808, 909, 606, Linn, SP1200) and yet I have the TR-8S and use it on every track. I also have the Maschine, Isla S2400, Elektron Rytm MK2, and E-mu Command Stations with original ROMs to use if I need... Remember that the analog kick/snare/hats and drums inside the TR-8S are mathematical "ACB" models, not samples (the 707 was samples, therefore Roland used the original ROM samples inside the TR-8S). The ACB sounds identical to their analog counterparts, and in most cases are better because they allow greater parameter ranges than the old ones. The 808/909 kicks for example, go from shorter to about 10x longer decay than the originals. Furthermore, when I get the call to do live gigs, I take this with me. The Roland TR-8S is the best drum machine ever made.

Forgot to say: the Overstayer is helping a great deal here to control all the raw mix issues, sort of a glue on the master bus.

@@dankeplace I haven't but this is the perfect case for how I could/should. Typically I record I to the daw and spread out the tracks discretely.

Hey brotha! Digging the setup! Is TR 8s good enough sonically for studio releases?
