Riley Poll Yeah, after she got her own talk show Johnny never invited her back. She used to be on the Tonight Show all the time, even hosted it but when she became Johnny's competition she never got to come back.
***** No it was a banning, before then she'd been on there dozens of times and hosted it and she called him to tell him she got her own show hoping to be congratulated and he never had her back. It was a banning, everyone involved knew it, it was Johnny refusing to have her back because she was breaking free and doing her own thing.

So, Johnny found out at the same time as the rest of the public, and was naturally bombarded with questions about the planning, but in truth he didn't know a thing about it.
Johnny felt very insulted that she didn't didn't talk to him about it, even in private conversation about her desires for it, but Joan felt she'd be breaking the agreement if she did. He took it as an insult and never forgave her.

This segment, then as it does now, has a resemblance of the ending of the 1946 time-honored holiday classic "It's a Wonderful Life" when all of the Bedford Falls, New York townsfolk and friends of George Bailey (played by James Stewert) come to the Bailey home with money and good wishes. In this case with Jimmy Fallon, it was a masterful comedy bit of all of those "friends" who said he would not be the host of the Tonight Show---leading viewers to think he was referring to one person, instead a parade of 14 celebrities came to pay their lost $100.00 bet. He and we now know he has many friends----even if this was all in fun. The great thing was that comic Joan Rivers was among these surprise guests---nearly seven months before her untimely death at age 81 after she stopped breathing while undergoing what was scheduled to be a minor throat procedure at an outpatient clinic in New York City. Joan was invited back the following month for a March 2014 guest appearance with Jimmy, however, it was way too vulgar in my opinion. I had expected a more retrospective interview and comedy act with Jimmy. But she got to come back on the show twice in 2014, after having Tonight Show host Johnny Carson banning her because he was taken off guard that Joan was to have a competing late night comedy show on the then-new FOX network. Johnny first put her on his show in the mid-1960s and he had "groomed" her to possibly be his replacement with her making several guest fill-in host appearances. Joan Rivers was very appreciative of Jimmy Fallon and his staff for allowing her to come back---to the show where it all began for her and in New York City, her hometown where the Tonight Show began in 1954. Upon her death, Jimmy must have felt at least grateful for letting Joan come back to the show just before her death. Like with anything else in life---do it now, as you never know if you'll get a chance later on.

This was just awesome. When Lady Gaga came out everyone went crazy. These are all New Yorkers though. Sara Jessica Parker, Mariah, etc.. spend lots of time in NY. The fact that they were able to get all these stars together at once is incredible. I still haven't watched the whole show, but this was the best moment for me.

im not positively sure because i was still a sperm cell when all this happened but she would go on the tonight show several times to be interviewed that she was later asked to host it for sometime. she then got her own show and left the johnny carson show which made ol'john mad and banned her for a long time. She returned when Jimmy got it and was very gratetful. im a 14 year old boy but i miss her dearly, legendary comedianne.

Jimmy is the best thing the for the tonight show. He will revive it and bring it to a new audience. He has the wit and charm of Colbert and the coolness of Carson. He also has the respect of his comedic peers like Tina Fey and generally is respected throughout the entertainment industry as a fun and creative guy who holds his own on any stage. I'm old enough to have watched Carson back in the day and Jimmy is a great choice to carry on the legacy. So was Letterman, but that was a terrible mess and I'm glad Dave came out of it with his own show. We're finally back on track.
