Fun fact: The 2016 and Eternal Cacodemons are actually a mixture of the 3 prior interpretations, not just the classic. The face is obviously the classic. The limbs represent 64. And the backside is hardest to recognize (because you dont see it often in Doom 3) but if you spin the model of Doom 3's Cacodemon, it has the EXACT same rear design as Eternal's, even down to the shape and spines.
10:45 - fun fact: in russian doom community people that still played like this even after better ways of controlling doomguy became available with the passage of time, were referred as "tractorists" (which is translated as tractor drivers). Though I haven't heard this slang term in many years... Though I have to admit, sometimes I still go back to my tractorist self when I want to relax with a cup of coffee while still slaying demons. EDIT: Oh, also forgot to mention that tractorists never used mouse, only keyboard.
I would make the argument that Hell Razers are spiritual successors to the Chaingun Guys and Commandos. They fire a singular “beam” designed to keep the player on their toes and from staying in one position. Id was likely trying to modernize the enemy type since the Chaingun Guys got so much flak and the Slayer moves much quicker, but it in my opinion didn’t quite work as effectively as they hoped.
You are literally the only guy I've seen say this online besides me (at least it seems like it) They're even a very bright red color. I also hold the position the mecha zombie was supposed to sort of fill this role. They also do burst fire and constant damage flame thrower. As well as being harder to kill. I'm cool being wrong but the rocket damage feels right.
I'm not sure I entirely agree with caco's being reduced entirely to comic relief. Yes, they can be killed very quickly, but they also demand that quick killing; it feels like whenever I play eternal and decide to prioritize some other demon it'll find a way to sneak up on me and shred me to near death at least. So yes, if your playing well, you'll only encounter the "haha funny meatball" side of them, but it only takes one mistake and they eat you alive.
About the cammando chaingunner: The lazer armed guys in 2016 and the fodder mecha zombies function as alt chaingunners. Both do continuous high damage if stand still and have mostly more health than the rest.
I did beat both Doom 1 and 2 using Keyboard only back when they were new. It really helped me later in my life learning many instruments. Also other endeavors of a more mature nature I will not discuss here.
I love this series. I also love the thrawback to the classic controls. I myself played keyboard only in the 90s, with my left hand over the arrowkeys and my left pinky over the shift key for run. My right hand was crossing the left to use the left control key for shooting, alt for strafe and spacebar to open doors. It felt more natural to use my right hand for actions. I had to relearn everything when wsad and mouse became the way to go.
Here's a little fun fact: there also were 2 more versions that appeared in Skulltag, a fanmade sourceport of the doom engine, one of them called the Cacolantern, a black version of the cacodemon, which shot blue projectiles, but i dont remember if they were stronger variants, then there was a lighter orange yellow-ish version, which i forgot the name of.
@@SinbadNaiver If you been on the internet long enough and looked through many different wads/mods you would've discover a lot more variants of the Cacodemon and other monsters that it would been difficult to remember.
Hell yeah, another good monster video! And yeah Cheserie cat is a good description for the caco, that skin above their lips resembled what we see on cats aad dogs... and the eye is of course where kitty's nose would be!
I hate it when I'm going about my daily routines, running errands and whatnot, when I mindlessly open a door or go around a corner; and who's standing there waiting for me??? The fucking Cyber-Demon! And then I'm like, "GREAT! Now I gotta deal with THIS asshole!"
It's always crazy to me how most people had no idea the SETUP utility that came with the game could be used to remap the keys. You didn't have to use awkward hand positioning when using the arrow keys and period/comma to strafe. You could just remap the strafe keys to the side arrow keys and that made the game so much smoother to control. And this wasn't a thing that was added in a later version of the game. It was available immediately out of the box, on December 10, 1993 when the shareware version first dropped.
I always wanted to start a video series like this. Tbh, I'm really glad you made this! I love learning about the various beasts we as players encounter in these games.
I like that there’s variety in the video and it’s not just listing down demons video, there’s actual insight on game. It sucks tho, I wish videos like this would be longer. Super amazing video, I can’t wait for more!
This series is gonna last a *while* with only 3 demons each. x) One missed element of the DOOM RPG versions of the Cyberdemon is that the DOOM II RPG Cyberdemon looks different than the others - due to how the graphics functioned, it has two cyborized legs instead of just one as seen in DOOM RPG. Talking about Doom 2016 Cyberdemon reminds me that this Baalgar demon was originally killed by the Doom Slayer in the past, during his crusades through Hell. I hope we see the non-cyber version in The Dark Ages, the original showdown of the two. The bit about how to play in the past is interesting because it's NOT how I played at all. Before mouselook, I never once used the mouse. Right hand on the arrow keys, my left hand on left ctrl (shoot) and left alt (strafe). While I couldn't turn and look, it was far more comfortable than the methods mentioned in the video.
I have also noticed that the game feels so much different when playing with the keyboard only. It seems to slow down the action almost to the pace of Doom 3. ^^ And yeah, I have 11 left to cover ^^, it's just that there is so much to look at
I played Doom. And I had The Manual of the Planes. But it took till now to see that the original Cacos were based on Jeff Easley's amazing cover art for The Manual of the Planes. Wow!
Initially, the model of 2016 caco had antennas like in concept art by hugo Martin it can be seen in one of brett patton's videos on youtube/vimeo, in addition, Doom 4 1.0 version of cacodemon is different from all of them; it is no longer Meatball, head with 4 eyes, it have 4 limbs on the upper half of the body and in the lower half have it many tentacle, and spits lava, at the time of this his bags on the back blow and become the same color as this lava, it apears. An analogue of the heavy weapon dude/commando in Doom 4 is also it called in closed alpha's files minigunner, and it apears in 2012 leaked trailer, a semi-decayed creature whose only clothes are pants, a down-barrel minigun and 4 more pairs of hands on his back.
I forgot to add about 2016 cacodemon that he has a disabled attack that attracted the slayer to him, most likely it would only make fights with this demon easier, it can be restored by mods. Most likely it was inspired to do a similar attack from the playable version in multiplayer.
Man I was hoping that they made a new IP or quake reboot, instead it’s Doom dark ages, but I’m hoping tho that the new game will be a crossover between doom and quake, the medieval setting feels at home with quake
To be fair, the Cacodemons have always been seen as a meme by the fanbase. So giving them a more goofy personality in Doom Eternal fits with their legacy of being an ugly-cute monster that people like to meme much like Kamata Kun in Shin Gojira.
Doom and Wolfenstein are in the same universe ugh now I remember why I dropped doom 2016 halfway through in the first place because i heard something like this
Cacodemons are flying tomatoes, Pain Elementals are flying potatoes. You can't change my mind.
Sure the pain elementals ain't meatballs or spherical meat loaf demons??
I always viewed cacos as italian meatballs, while pain elementals as swedish meatballs
decino has taught you well
Cacodemons are flying meatballs.
Pain Elementals are flying *burnt* meatballs.
D64 Pain Elementals are flying eldritch metal meatballs.
Meatballs
