  • Sargent has been the master of portrait artists for more than a century and all I needed was a bit of inspiration from my ancestor’s portrait to try and emulate his style!

      Yes, SYW, and especially if you sing things like: "Whoso offereth praise glorifyeth Me, and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I show the salvation of God" and "A Mighty Fortress is our God...." and "Be still and know that I am God....I am the Lord that healeth thee....In thee oh Lord do I put my trust" etc....but of course, you need to order your conversation aright, and be still and know that He is God, and put your trust in Him..... He (Jesus) died to heal us...HALLELUJAH!

    Absolutely love your painting series! I have been obsessively watching them every morning. You explain things with real clarity and joy. I would love to see you paint in the style of Giacometti- his process was nicely documented and I bet you would have a lot of fun with it.

      Yes! It’s in the works! Give me a few more weeks because for the next 2 weekends, I will do a painting showcase for charity (Singapore’s KK children hospital), so, most probably in June!

      @@mygeekfamilycotton I figured it would be so fitting since my goats are pets basically! I think Frida Kahlo had a monkey in her some of her paintings, right?

      Yes!! She had many animals: monkeys, parrots, etc…!

    I notice a Vermeer-type painting in the background of one of your vids.... would you please consider doing a lesson on "The girl with the pearl earring"? ... Thank you so much for these lessons,

    • @mygeekfamilycotton
      @mygeekfamilycotton  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching, Marylin! These are not really lessons, I just try to have fun and share my experience. I may try Vermeer, yes. I did a copy of the Girl with a pearl earring a few years ago, so I might be able to gather my notes on this.

    Are you painting in oils? Or in acrylic?

    • @mygeekfamilycotton
      @mygeekfamilycotton  Год назад +1

      Thanks for watching! These were done in acrylic

    • @cindyarnold3003
      @cindyarnold3003 9 месяцев назад +1

      I use acrylics and appreciate you saying what you're using. I also appreciate the way you explain the process and why you're doing things.

    • @mygeekfamilycotton
      @mygeekfamilycotton  9 месяцев назад +1

      I actually chose acrylics (and I also use watercolors and gouaches in other works) because I unfortunately don’t have a really dedicated place to paint… so the drying time allows me to paint on the diner table and clean everything one hour later because it is dry… lol… if I were using oils, I’d have to wait days before I can move anything! 😝

    • @cindyarnold3003
      @cindyarnold3003 9 месяцев назад +1

      Exactly! Having a place to paint is a luxury not everyone enjoys. I have a tiny studio space about the size of a modest closet. It does have a little screened in porch, but oils would also smell, overwhelm the tiny space. So acrylics offer a solution to the problem. I like the depth you were able to achieve in your portrait with acrylics and look forward to more of your videos!

    John Singer Sargent's siters noted a performance art quality while he painted them. He knew how to bring in business and keep it. Now Madame X was a classy painting, funny how a dress strap can get so many people upset.

    • @mygeekfamilycotton
      @mygeekfamilycotton  6 месяцев назад +1

      Ah! But the shoulder was extremely erotic at that time! I will be talking about that scandal in a next “museum Mysteries “! Stay tuned! 😋

    • @bobb1870

      True, for that time period and to some today it was a taboo. Today, most people would not care about it or notice. Just throwing this out for fun, maybe it was intentional too. Artists say and do things to get some free press or attention to gain paying customers. Another painting that caused a stir was "The Gleaners" which created fears from the wealthy and powerful. Fearing a peasant upheaval in the country, a direct criticism of the powerful. Furthermore, almost every artist through time did something to make their mark to stand out. Because, who remembers the artist that plays by the rules? Not many. Look forward to your episode.

    • @mygeekfamilycotton

      Yes, any artist that really counted in history had to “rock the boat” a little… or a lot!😂 cheers, see you around!
