Wambui Otieno to be Buried in Ngong'

Departed freedom fighter Wambui Otieno will be buried on Thursday next week at her Matasia home in Ngong'. The decision was announced by Wambui's widower Peter Mbugua and family in the wake of claims by Umira Kager clan in Nyalgunga in Siaya County that they wanted to bury Wambui, whom they consider their wife, next to the grave of her former husband, the late S.M Otieno. Evelyn Wambui brings us the wishes of 2 families, each determined to bury Wambui... their way.

I am not sure what aspect of Luo culture this man is talking about. The Late Wambui remarried following the demise of the Late SMO thereby ceasing to be the "wife of the Umira Kager clan". Only her children and widower Mr Mbugua have a say on her final resting place. Thankfully, she had already decided on the same.

Cant imagine this is happening again! When will the Umir Kager learn that a woman is not married by the clan? Give it up my brothers and learn to respect women. You disrespected her when she was alive and want to do it even at death? You should cut the drama.

Please leave Wambui to rest in peace. if her wish that she be buried in Upper Matasia so be it if it does not contradict the new Constitution and the law. RIP in eternal peace Wambui. By the way even Peter Okondo went against what can be termed tradition and his body cremated and bury at a cemetery. Perhaps what Kenyans should be thinking very seriously about is this idea of turning homestead into miniature cemeteries.
