Apple Mac Startup and Crash Chimes (Includes Big Sur Chime)

- In 2014 I made a video depicting all the Mac Startup and Crash Chimes. Now with macOS Big Sur providing a brand new boot chime for the latest Macs, and learning some crash sounds that have never been addressed, here's a new updated video containing all Mac startup and crash chimes.

0:19 Nearly There
0:21 Almost There!!
0:24 PERFECT!
0:27 Who started a mac in a big empty room??
I had 0:24, I did the update, now my mac sound like it is depressed and derange.
Omg I’ll Mercedes I’m ur big fan
I start the Mac in a big fucking empty room.
0:19 Sounds better
Bruh then 0:31
0:24 This is factually the only acceptable startup chime
gLAEEuuuu
BAAAUUUUuuummmmmmm
jeAAAAHhhhhhh
The new one has more of a presence. a feeling of power if you will. its just more epic
correct
Yes somehow it sounds deep like something is rumbling
Personal favourites are the Performa 5000, iMac G3 and the Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh.
@🌏Off The road STØRMER #2 why is that relevant.
@@yorkshireball_animations because it is
I don’t know why, but it’s super eerie that the newer macs literally scream SOS at you
Macs just know how to ask help from you
(In Morse code)
0:19 You are getting there keep going!
0:22 Nearly there...
0:25 Almost there!
0:28 THERE YOU GO!!!
0:19 youre getting there!
0:22 nearly there...
0:25 almost there!
0:28 ALMOST!!!
0:31 there you go!
But I think 0:25 is THERE U GO!!!!!
I love this
@@aburweis1 um why did u not say
0:19 your getting there!
0:25 almost there

Shutdown chimes: calming
1:26: drum solo
They aren't shutdown chimes but they are death chimes
@@gabethebomb3610 made this comment a year ago idk what I was thinking lmao
@@reoccurcat lol
Did anyone else notice that all the chimes -- starting with 0:19 -- go down a half-step with each change?
I listened to this for almost 10 minutes and realized they're actually going between half steps!
0:19: G Major
0:21: G half flat Major
0:24: F half sharp major
0:27: F major
It's hard to hear, but it could also be dividing the interval between the first and last bong into 4 equal parts. So, it would be G, G 1/3 flat, F 1/3 sharp, F
It's as if they are more and more depressed with each change.
@@rexierabbit3280 Yeah 😂
Just gets more depressed as it goes-
@@eeveemeow_official I mean thats what it feels
I just restarted with Big Sur and it scared the shyt out of me...
So nice to hear they refreshed the sound after taking it away briefly.
They returned it with big Sur
UPDATE OCTOBER 2020: With the introduction of macOS 11.0.1 Big Sur Beta, all non-T2 chip Macs supporting Big Sur from 2013 onwards will have the new startup chime at 0:27 if Big Sur is installed.
Finally! Someone else has noticed!! Can you please provide a link to download all all of these files?
@@setoth1234 I'll consider it
As well as all Catalina-running Macs with the newest update installed.
@@MAKSPLUS I just went through the firmwares in the latest 10.15.7 update and I found that the only Macs that have this chime besides the Big Sur supported ones are the Late 2013 iMacs. Essentially all pre-T2 Macs from mid 2013 (they have the apple diagnostics instead of apple hardware test) have the new chime.
BUT What will happen if you install patched Big Sur?
1:03 imagine a little kid is using a Power Mac LC and hears this, the kid: * cries * mOm ThE CoMPUteR gOt aNGrY aT mE 😭😖
imagine bruh
oh shit
Gececc
Zszfzsd

0:36 sounds like 747's master caution
oh shit it does
oh shit it do
...huh, it does.
Sounds like my work fire alarm
This sound like an jet alarm
1:26. The. Best. Period.
1:03 Dramatic Gasp
1:03 sounds like a villian's theme song
IK KKK
Ngl i agree
The correct term would be “jingle”, but I understand. This is an old comment anyway. Plus you’re right.
1:11 Game over. Try again?
[YES] [NO]
1:34 Congratulations! Your Computer has crashed!
lol
*_the most f a u l t i e s t laptop EVER_*
FATAL SYSTEM ERROR. Every file on your hard disk is gone. There is no hope of recovery. (simasimac pattern shows)
1:34 is so upbeat it could be an quest completed jingle to some NDS or SNES RPG lol
[YES]
@@gabira10 It’s a simple arpeggio.
1:02 when the charger is on the bed OH HECK NO
Omg idk how I got that pin but thank you.
1:11 the fact that it’s tempo is slower makes it scarier 😳
imagine its night time you turned light is off you are using this powerbook and it does that sound
It's even slower when it is a hardware failure apparently
0:19 - my favorite mac start up
1:22 and 1:34 - my favorite mac crashes
That’s also my favourite Startup sound.
Big Sur Chime 0:27
dont u hate when ur mac updates at 3 am and the start up chime plays at full blast so it wakes u up and puts u into cardiac arrest?? me too🥰
I remember with my Windows 7 computer I got in 2009 after my Windows Vista computer was one hell of a lemon (yes, computers can be lemons like when you buy a new car and it don't work), the computer ran better than that stupid Windows Vista computer I had gotten for my 24th birthday (I'm now 36)...however, sometimes the computer would update in the middle of the night while I was asleep, and I would wake up the next morning and the first thing I would do was go to my computer...I had noticed a black screen with a white blinking cursor, which alarmed me, making me think my computer was on the fritz...it just turned out this would happen if the computer rebooted or updated with any USB devices plugged into the computer. That was a source of my bad dreams, even after receiving my first Mac computer in 2013 as an early birthday present for my 28th birthday. I currently have a new iMac that I received in 2020.
The NuBus Power Mac startup chime (00:17) is still my favorite!
Sounds like something that'd be in a Vaporwave playlist :)
0:31 I LIKE THAT SOUND
0:19 You are getting there!
0:22 Nearly there...
0:25 Almost there!
0:28 THERE IT IS THE T2!
0:24 Almost there!
It’s deep,And not even the same.
The pitch goes deeper if you noticed
Fun fact: the first sound was inspired by final chord (e-major) in the song a Day in the life by the Beatles
0:27
1:23 nightmare chime
More like dreamcore
Nice! So basically it's a remastered version of the Bong sound, sounds more bass heavy, might be attributed to the improved speakers? I found it to sound more bass heavy on my 2020 MacBook Air...
Just imagine in 2030 the boot chime will be just bass
1:26 EPIC FAIL!
@Vinayak vaibhavi Prajapati ah yes farts
0:46 Same as my phone, but low pitched.
why cant I stop watching these videos I swear
There's also a different version of the Powerbook 5300's crash chime I think. It plays when there is a hardware failure, and the chime plays REALLY slow, like, inhumanly slow.
Imagine you hear the powerbook 5300 crash sound in the dark.. Gives me creeps
0:19 you are getting there!
0:22 Nearly there...
0:24 Almost there!
0:28 THERE WE GO!
1:31 my favorites tbh
0:28 this is what you came for
Yup
The 2018 chime sounds like how an aged wine tastes.
3 beeps of deaths remind me of ATM when my card stops
I thought mine had a problem! Thanks for this
Near the end of the startup sounds, they just get lower then the end startup sound was a higher note
0:12 my favourite
0:13 So in the etc. there is also the last macintosh ii in the ii series, the iivx, and the first mac to have a cd-rom drive uses the same chime.
I’ve gotten the 3 beeps of death before it was scary!
Powermacintosh 6100 by the way totally got me there by that crash sound :D
Apple really took "Crash Sound" too literally on that one. 1:20
came to this after i heard the new one..didn’t know they changed it until now
Could there have been a higher pitched sound as a prototype before 0:19?
PowerPC beeps of death: 460 Hz sine wave
Intel Mac beeps of death: 310 Hz (2007-2013) or 260 Hz (2013-2015) triangle/square wave
The Chime was born: 0:19
Apparently the Macintosh Centris 660AV was the one to first feature it, released in 1993.
Why are computer sounds in general just so fun lol
the new Big Sur chime just sounds more Powerful and that high pitched beautiful extra sound just finishes it
0:28- not just for t2 macs, any macs compatible with big sur or later. I hear it on my intel i5 imac on startup.
I love the new Big Sur chime
That 99-15 one was so nostalgic to me. I prefer that over the newer ones.
I prefer the ones that are like (tararara turudu
1999-2015 startup is straight up 🔥
0:24 was the chime used on my old MacBook Air before it was broken.
The Power Mac/Performa 5200 one reminds me a bit of the newer PS3 startup
@@NobelTech Yup
The Big Sur chime goes all the way back to my late 2015 MACBOOK AIR
My favorite is at 1:26
0:24 The MacBook Air (2017) is the last Mac computer to have this chime. I have one and it's confirmed (unless Apple releases a ROM update.)
Ones as late as mid 2013 big sur supported macs have that chime
The t2 security chip startup chime its super epic plus it feels more powerfull and stronger.
im having ptsd from hearing the 3 beeps of death even though i never had it, but saw a video on it, specifially from computer clan trying to fix it
Ah yes. A return of the classic.
My favorite sound 0:14 and 0:30
I love how the modern crash chimes are just morse code
I kinda wish it was possible to change the startup sound but it isn’t bc I’m pretty sure the sound is hard coded into the motherboard(?)
The 9 beeps of death (SOS) are extremely like the iPhone vibration (TapTic Engine) !
amazing!
When the video stops but the 3 beeps of death keeps going
cant wait to get my M1 macbook air and hear the startup sound
let got it now
0:28 i love the Startup
Well in MacOS 14, they will probably change the startup sound by changing the key one half step down to E major. Don't be surprised if that happens!
The first part of crash chimes activated my fight and flight
I wonder why after 0:19, the first startup, they kept going down a key
1:28
1:26 soo aggressive...
The "3 Beeps of Death"/"9 Beeps of Death" are just POST beep-codes, so a lot of regular PCs and motherboards have equivalents.
I know
0:28
Install BridgeOS to secure your MacBook Pro/air or iMac
0:27 weird, my intel macbook air from 2014 makes that sound after the big sur update apparently
1:03 love it
Also, 0:28 is the best
0:17 God is PS3 Startup
Why does the T2 security chip sound the most awesome
The first startup sound reminds me of when the flight crew are about to make an announcement on an airplane.
Seems like those crash chimes have evolved in reverse.
Idk why but, i still sometimes get freaked out by the startup chime on '84 macintosh...
Hear this 0:25
And hear this 0:28
Now put them at the same time
0:36 Steve Jobs is in Other Call
0:25 is mine since I updated to big surr on my MacBook Air 2019 0:25 is playing
When my 2016 MacBook Pro was updated to macOS Big Sur it made the new chime not the older one can someone tell me the reason
Mac OS Big Sur has all macs without T2 security to have the new startup
0:28 mac sounds pretty cool
1:02
1:26 ..
1:02 Sounds like from a 90's console/arcade game over sound
Weird beep sound and lovely startup sound.
Why with each version it gets deeper and more ominous.
no one:
literally no one:
PowerMac: dun dun duuuuun🥁🥁🥁
macintosh centris 660av was bangin apparently
1:26 This one is so...cool
God should I have to use all the older model of apple?
oh my good it's so cool 😎
why crash sounds can be so happy
9 beep is just a Morse code of SOS
Better than 9 year old videos showing startups and crashes
Well it did need a remaster, and chimes nobody has actually addressed yet (the beeps)
@@NobelTech yeah, the beeps were unknown by me
