  • Hōkūleʻa and Hikianalia sailed to Marae Taputapuātea on the island of Raʻiātea on May 17, 2022. In doing so, they asked permission to enter the sacred pass of Teavamoʻa, honoring this sacred site as a home of navigators as well as Hawaiians’ origins from Kahiki. With this, the Moananuiākea voyage makes the promise of carrying the heritage of Taputapuātea around the Pacific.
Stories presented by Polynesian Voyaging Society recognize the contributions of Hōkūleʻa to the cultural renaissance in Hawaiʻi, the contemporary revival of wayfinding and non-instrument navigation, and the call for a worldwide movement to mālama honua. Go to waahonua.com to learn more about the voyage along Kealaikahiki (Road to Tahiti), part of the Moananuiākea Voyage, and to explore PVS's Road to Renaissance series.
    Storytelling sponsored by DAWSON.
