Demi Moore's best performance I've seen, at least in the romantic comedy genre: vulnerable yet restrained and richly expressive. And without losing any of her captivating charm
@@DANIELMartinez-iw7hj HA, HA / very good. But it reminds me of how wonderful the cast was. Even the assistant (forget his name) was just brilliant in the few scenes he had. The reference to Swayze is sad, but of course he was still alive at the time.
This is one of my favourite scenes in this film. I went through so many emotions but it did make me cry on her line 'im also just a girl, standing in front of a boy'. Such a fantastic film. Great cast and so many funny bits. It's a classic to me and I watch it every now and then.
The context of her character being an actress adds such power to an already poignant line. The whole world sees her as this idol, this object of fame and glory, which threatens her relationship with him because he fears that is what she wants to be and that, as an ordinary man, he couldn’t be enough for her and they’d both be left unfulfilled. But with this line, she assures him that she is a person like any other, and wants to love and be loved just like anybody else, more so than any meaningless fame or glory.
This has got to be the sweetest five minutes of film over produced ... watching Julia try to fight back tears as her heart is broken. My goodness what a beautiful actress !
Also, the indefinitely at the presser. You see the giddiness roll up from within her. It was like 2 or 3 waves and culminated with that brilliant grin!
I love this... and for anyone who's felt or dealt with some fame... she's right... the "fame" isn't real or everlasting...at the end of the day, people are just people.. just humans
4:51 speaking from past experiences, jadednes, heartache and failures. You can see and hear it from Julia's eyes and delivery. Very masterful way of doing it. Anna probably never had people liking her for the person, they probably liked her for the fame, beauty and recognition, but never for the vulnerable personality. She even said that when she referenced Rita Hayworth's Gilda's sleeping with the dream and waking up to reality. But also on the other side, Will was right to reject her because he fears for the consequences. His previous wife left him for someone else, he got 2 rude awakenings with Anna as well. A third one would have probably finished him off.
It's not bad enough that people want to alter current reality. You have to time travel and try to muddle the simplest parts of the past. It's not enough to point out the wrongs done and learn. Today's "fighting" of sexysm and masogomy is about catapulting to the opposite extreme. Congrats. Great progress.
traditionally we see many men play the role of asking for forgiveness and someone's love, so I think that the color switch was definitely purposeful because here the roles are reversed!
Masterfully done. Both saying what they had in mind from their experiences from the past 2 incidents and then delivering the lines where you feel all the emotions.
I absolutely love this little, simple, endearing movie...from the first time I watched it. Many critics dislike it but it really has some of the best acted scenes I've ever seen. The storyline - The utter acceptance and support from true friends who recognize your flaws and love you nonetheless - really hard to find. ❣❤💜💔💘💟
Watched this movie for the first time yesterday and I cant get this brilliant scene out of my head. Julia Roberts' acting is mind blowing here. I can feel the pain here.
bob: Yes, I had this on DVD and watched it a lot - you miss so much by watching a film just once and every time you watch you see something new, like that backward look ... 👌
Martin's ( James Dreyfus) acting in this scene is superb. His portrayal of the character truly stands out and leaves a lasting impression. Despite having a small role, he delivers a fantastic performance, and his comedic timing adds an extra layer of enjoyment.
First of all, really great script by Richard Curtis. Then masterful casting of all, particularly the two stars at their peak. Julia Roberts performance here is exceptional, an acting class. By turns, confident, warm, funny, angry, and then extremely, believably, vulnerable; with micro expressions throughout the film that make her emotions all the more believable and relatable. And then that radiant Julia Roberts smile comes bursting through. To die for. Not to mention, Hugh Grant delivered his lines perfectly and believably also, with warm humor, great timing, and his usual charm. This particular scene has one of the greatest, most memorable lines in film of course. All the rest of the cast, and creators, did their "jobs" well too in orchestrating this brilliantly charming movie.

This move I never forget in my life. Greatest movie where every character in this movie is so great. Writer director and producer absolutely 💯 great for releasing this great movie
Wow. I’ve never seen this movie. Came here because I saw that the building that the bookstore is in is for sale and the article mentioned the iconic scene from the film. Who knew? Everyone but me it seems:). I’ll watch it!!
I'm not a romcom guy, and thought the dialog and plot were forced, but I love this movie. Hugh Grant was never pathetic, and Julia Roberts was believable as a confused beautiful woman.
Heartbreaking scene. Remember this movie is from the pre-social media era. Emotion had more value than today. Because people those days enjoyed real-world experience than fake virtual world exposure.

The way Julia Roberts delivers that line is unmatched. Perfect tone, with perfect pauses, just perfect acting.

Amazing control as she keeps smiling as he starts to say no, but as he glances away, you see the dismay and sorrow on her face.
"The fame thing isn't really real you know". Gorgeous!

Oh, that's another film - it was very good - loved the girl in it, can't remember her name but she was well selected ... 👍
4:41 to the end, her gestures are so sincere and touching, even pointing the paint with a look as she leaves.

Apparently this is based on a true story of the scriptwriter's friend.
