More please, this was very informative. I had no idea there was this much stress and drama behind the scenes. It was definitely worth it, though. RE2 saved CAPCOM.
I got Resident Evil 2's real development planned to come next! :) And yeah every entry seems to have had some drama to it. Just the teams way of working really haha
I can imagine the stress of having a product almost completely finished and being told to scrap it and start over and given less time to complete it lol
RE2 retail improvements are definitely apparent, however more zombies on screen in 1.5, and a proper police station in 1.5 were better choices IMO. Thankfully they took notes for the RE2make.
Nah, the RE2 (final game) police station was infinitely better and more interesting, and was within the lore of the game. Yeah it's cool they mixed some of that for RE2make for sure, but idk why people are obsessed with it looking so real when the Spencer mansion exists in this universe.
Although I understand the point that it seemed bland and boring, many ideas were great, such as the best Birkin design, the gorilla zombies, or that Elza and Leon's outfits will be stained with blood After one bite, though, with all the problems, it would have been fun to play that game.
Enjoyed the video. I've been loosely following RE 1.5 news for the past five years (I didn't know about it until around five years ago). I really hope the latest build of RE 1.5 leaks someday.
Thank you! Yeah as mentioned, much of it was leaked so we have probably what was made at this point. A few teams actually have worked on making it playable.
@TheObsessiveGamer Did they somehow get ahold of the whole game's script? My impression was most of the stuff nowadays was not actually made by Capcom themselves. It's stuff just added to the 40% build?
@pengu6335 there are different drafts of 1.5's early development. And the game was at different percentages of completion depending on which creator you asked that was working on it
Although i absolutely lo w what RE 1.5 presents with what modders have been able to build. Re2 is soooo much better lol. Resident evil is really the only games i play anymore and even when i first picked it up in 1998 it quickly became my favorite series.
I may be in the minority but re1.5 looked better and has more gameplay mechanics than the original re2 and even 3. The police station looked like an actual police station. Including restrooms. And the zombies had more variety rather than the 4 or 5 in re2 original. Maybe one day. Even if it wasn’t completed
Wow, i didn't know about the connection to Zyuranger. That is freakin' awesome. Does that make Claire and Leon, Zyurangers. I mean it would explain the direction Leon's character took later, with the kicks and the quips. I am joking, but i also love this bit of trivia. That's something i did not know about RE2. That is awesome. (Also if you haven't watched Zyuranger i highly recommend it. I am Dyslexic but i was so hooked by that show i endured it.)
Well it's less Zyruanger and more that genre in general. He worked on things like Kamen Rider and I think also Lupin the Third. Noboru Sugimura became one of the main people spearheading the series in the time between 2 and 4.
Yeah Sugimura was a legend behind many major series and films with several sentei series too. I have seen some of Zyuranger. Hopefully I can find the full series to watch eventually
Believe it or not But chunks of 1.5 and the original draft of 2s story were reused for the remake. Leon started out in his civilian clothes and changing into his uniform was meant to happen in 2 as was returning to the streets after the RPD. Marvin’s storyline in the remake where he gets bit by Brad after his hesitation was meant for Chief Irons in 1.5 and translating his 40% Build dialogue states ‘no matter what, uniform or not you take the shot’ or something like that.
This version of original Resident Evil 2 definitely had some cool ideas on the table, such as the enemy variety and altered characters from the final. I especially think seeing Annette Birkin being infected with the G Virus would've been a hype boss encounter most wouldn't have seen coming. Not to mention the cut Man Spider Enemies were reused and reworked as the Reaper Bug things Resident Evil 3 which were quite infamous for being able to one shot you if they got close. All in all I'm looking forward to the next part of the beta and development of Resident Evil 2. Such fun, can't wait.

Honestly at the time, I was super hyped for the 1.5 version pics that were being advertised in the run up to release. When i got RE2 and played it on day one, I was pretty disappointed that they had made it a less realistic looking setting. Switching from an actual police station look to the old art museum just felt a bit too ostentatious. You can tell that the original police station design was based on movies like Terminator 2, Demolition Man and even Aliens and so it had a big screen feel to it. Watching this, it kind of makes me think that the original director was basically hamstring by older colleagues who didn't want him to eclipse them. I doubt he would have, but I will forever want to see what the original version could have been with full FMV and stuff. I've played the mod version, but they really didn't try and finish the bits that weren't already close to being finish and so it's hard to judge 1.5 based on that version alone.
The modded version comes from the 40% build which when it was leaked it state was so unfinished that no room was interconnected and you couldn't run it on the PS1, to this day the obviously more complete and functional 70%+ version is still in the dark, probably existing as "lost media." As for your expectations for "FMV" if my memory serves me there were none planned, so see it like RE Survivor's cut scenes made with the in game graphics. Finally I totally agree with the RPD looking more interesting in its original form, specially since its revision looked like the Arklay Mansion once again, furthermore the amount of chaos in the offices and the layout of the building (not to mention been way more believably as a Police Station than its later revision) made the place look like a long and gruesome battle took place, with an area that big and with such amount of monsters, the odds of surviving that mess easily came to none. Then again we might never know for sure how the whole story line in the game would play, because of this all of what we have is a very early review build, patched by the community and some interviews and small bits of facts. It more than likely end like that since.

I love that the game I always wanted to try for over 25 years has been found and put back together in a playable state. It's quite amazing. I first heard about Resi 1.5 when the Internet was introduced at school in 1999.
I just played through a lot of the RE1.5 mod project and I can safely say I'm happier with the final product. However I would love to see a mod that blurs the lines between beta content and final content. I wanna see a mix of the RPD from 1.5 and 2. A big issue though with 1.5 is some of the environments being a little too much like a real police station. A mix of the two would balance things out and feel more immersive while keeping that wild and weird charm of RE. That explains why the remake added a lore explanation for why the police station is not like a police station at all since it was a museum.
I wish they had kept the Modern police station design, to me it definitely felt more like a realistic police station. Maybe they could have expanded it a bit more and added some more dangerous places for players to explore. I did like how in the 70% build that was released a while back it shows how the lobby which is a sort of safe place later on gets overrun by zombies breaking through the gate keeping them out. Giving players the feel of no where is safe. Would have loved to see how Raccoon City in 1.5 differed from the released version
Initially there were no plans to have a Tyrant in 2, but Kamiya insisted on a Tyrant when Sugimura came on to help redo the project. Sugimura figured that having such a strong Tyrant that was beyond what was in 1 would diminish G so they gave it a dedicated mission to be going after G. They had it in Scenario B to raise the difficulty beyond Scenario A.
Also one more thing to ask was about golgotha it was originally the final boss well basically the main boss of re 2 and it had wesker's face seen in some concept art like was wesker gonna come back and what change why they decide to combine william and golgotha as one concept in the final? Sorry about my english i had a smooth brain there when i type/wrote this.
@DavidBlaiseSGaela Golgotha was only during the concept stuff, but yeah for its "final form" it would've had a face in the tail. The names for the face were Wesker or Nicholas (who was a scientist character). If it'd been Wesker it probably was an idea they were toying around with for how he might come back.
The only remains of the final boss in 1.5 were two really low res screenshots from one of those magazines years ago i mean looked like it in its dog form which they kept in the final tho the model is different and not seen in the game files of 2 or whatever. the massive blob of tumor and shit we have now yeah we probably had to do more things to defeat in 1.5 instead of just shooting it while it slowly crawls closer to the player seen in the final who knows.
@@DavidBlaiseSGaela In general Birkin in 1.5 was going to be more animalistic throughout his forms with the fourth form in the final being the most similar to those ideas. The more I watch videos on RE2 the more I get less convinced that it was only popular because of poor people not being able to afford a Playstation and can only get a N64. Lol
Now don't call me out here xP But seriously I only got it for N64 cause it sounded pretty fun that way as I played it after I played REmake and could have technically picked it up for GameCube if I wanted
Technically it was on the 64 (and had arguably it's best version there), but it did as good as it did mainly for being arguably the best game of the series.
there is a huge story behind the research of this beta, you said practically nothing in this video, inform yourself before making videos, if you want information contact me since I was part of the bioflames group
This is about the history of its development, not the digging up its beta. HOWEVER, I was planning to do that in the epilogue of the RE2 video I am planning as this is only a first of 2 parts really.
@@edward18517 First off understand its not going to be a deep dive into the uncovering of the RE1.5 beta as it's still a video on the development of the actual game, but rather more a brief overview. Something like that may one day get its own video but right now this is strictly about its development. Second, which various bits? I know RE4 had 1 which I put in the fix notes, but otherwise nothing else of note in that or RE1 or this for that matter
@TheObsessiveGamer those fix notes bits are what I was referring to so you don't need to go back and do that. The "note" may be there afterwards, but the actual videos themselves will still always have those bits in them.
@@edward18517 I agree, but RE1 and 1.5 didn't even have that. RE4 only had 1 of those, so it's not like you described it happening constantly in my RE videos specifically. Anyways the unfortunate case is that while everything is researched and looked at via many sources, unfortunately some sources can be a bit shoddy to the point of many sources repeating tha same info and think is real until some small individuals come, provide me with links and proofs of sites and articles that are not so easy to find whatsoever. The bigger unfortunate part really is how RUclips won't let me just patch or upload a new version of a video, thus i'm stuck with these.

But seriously I only got it for N64 cause it sounded pretty fun that way as I played it after I played REmake and could have technically picked it up for GameCube if I wanted
Technically it was on the 64 (and had arguably it's best version there), but it did as good as it did mainly for being arguably the best game of the series.
kinda weird i make a video putting 1.5 and 2 together then this pops up
Oh? What kinda video?
I would have clicked the likebutton, but it´s a perfect lucky 777...
I can't play this game 😂
lol well yeah, it never came out XD
Disliked before watching crew checking in.

Best channel.
Big thanks man!
there is a huge story behind the research of this beta, you said practically nothing in this video, inform yourself before making videos, if you want information contact me since I was part of the bioflames group
This is about the history of its development, not the digging up its beta.
HOWEVER, I was planning to do that in the epilogue of the RE2 video I am planning as this is only a first of 2 parts really.
I do hope you've done your research for that cause you seem to get various bits skewed or wrong some of the times in your Resident Evil videos.
