This video was done right, explaining the other side and some of the deceitful narrative from Mike, but not throwing blame around. The amount of Land Rovers is mad. Maxwell, you could make another video walking around checking out the cars when you are going back there.

Maxwell you’re a top bloke allowing a Mad Ford to share their side of the story in a sensible conversation. The manner you asked your questions was perfect, and it’s really nice to see you doing this for the community. Looking forward to more collabs, big and small in the future.
Mechanic for 16 years and soon as I saw that video I stopped following DT , everyone who's a Mechanic knows you don't go ragging a fresh built engine down a drag stip! You bed the engine in first
I'm glad Mick has had a chance to put his side of the story across, so thank you for presenting the video the way you have. At the time I thought that Drivetribe threw Mad Ford under the bus massively at the end of the ST200 project. The silence from DT about what had happened (especially from Mike F) was deafening and they really handled it poorly - I certainly lost a lot of respect for them since.
It says a lot that while telling the story, Mick owns up to any mistakes on his part, whereas DriveTribe just absolutely lay into it with no mention on their part of rushed timescales or redlining a freshly-built engine. Mick definitely seems like a great and honest bloke - and I hope we get to see more of him on this channel!
watching them run that car knowing full well it wasn't ready really rubbed me the wrong way. then a couple of months later when it was all suddenly mad ford's fault everything went wrong, that left a lasting foul taste in my mouth. i kept watching the channel because the content is still high quality, but every time they collaborated with a new shop, i had the thought in the back of my head, "god i hope they don't screw this shop over too." maxwell getting sacked for literally no good reason despite being a great addition to the channel pushed me to finally unsubscribe. so happy we finally get to hear mick's side of the story on this. i'm not interested in watching an hour's worth of napa advertising anyways.

I liked the video, mostly because it's genuine. The big sponsored business is what's wrong with so many channels on RUclips. Creatives can't be more creative with pressure promise of money or fame. Not everything works or gets views but its the genuine channels and people who I want to follow and myself try to be.
Red lining a car after a rebuild ain't on, at least we got the full story in the end thanks to you. Keep it up Maxwell, and don't ever apologise for long form content, you had me hooked from the off.
Mick I'm very glad to see that you have had this opportunity to set the record straight. Maxwell well done making this video keep going mate there will be good things in store for you good luck.
This was good to see. I could always tell Mike didnt really understand things (you can see his eyes glaze when stuff got technical) and always seemed to be trying to get something for nothing. Love this new channel.
I still remember all that mayhem: I didn't know Mad Ford chaps before DT's video but hell I could understand straight away that what they did was quality work. When they blamed them in the video I was truly left speechless, it looked almost set up. Now I'm even more certain that MFE is an excellent company
I think somewhere in the middle is what actually happened. Timelines don't add up "car sat in storage for 18 months" but it was "drag raced" in June of 21 and at Smallest Cog no later than March of 2022. No mention of any issues with the engine during the DT episodes, if anything the exact opposite, as it gets a clean MOT in May of 2021. Again, somewhere in the middle lays the actual story.
Fair play to you Maxwell. This video is going to thoroughly piss off a fair few people on the other side of the fence. Takes real guts to put something like this out, at the very real risk of poking the bear. Glad to see that it didn't put mad engineering into the ground. That would have been criminal, particularly now we know the full story ❤
Brilliant, always two sides to a story. I've learnt over the years to spot the messers and say no to them from the get go. Always never worked out with cameras and magazine people for me, which is why I don't entertain them anymore 😅
I remember watching the DriveTribe video when they raced the Mondeo, you could see the blue smoke very clearly on film. To then see them ignore that, race it anyway and Mike comment it didn't feel fast I could totally see what would be coming further down the line. It wasn't long after that I stopped watching them. I was extremely happy to see the Mad Ford Engineering business was still going strong when a couple of years later they fixed The ExPawers camper van Vinnie, that was a much better portrayal of Mick and how he goes about his work.
An honest and genuine interview that has crossed a few t's and dotted a few i's for people who have only heard one side of the story, keep up the great work Maxwell and good luck for the future.

I hadn't seen the DT video at the smallest cog , but i just went back and watched it. You can even see in the comments 2 years ago that everyone smelled a rat. They knew the engine wasn't run in properly and they still proceeded to thrash it within an inch of its life.

Good to see the guys at madford got to give their side to the story. What happened never sat right with me. The video that happened at the cog should never have happened and if it did they should have come clean and told the truth that what happened had nothing to do with Madford
Didn't realise that drivetribe did that video until now. They pulled the poor guys work to bits and said the complete opposite. They could have destroyed his livelihood, glad it didn't though.

Great video again Maxwell... Please keep up the good work! Also, please don't apologise for your editing decisions or content at the end of your videos - you've got nothing to apologise for! Keep producing good content like this, and we will keep watching.... 🙂
I remember when I saw the DT video I wanted to hear the other side of the story, so I googled the company to see if they had published their own view, instead I found their (I think) twitch channel, and Mick was on his way to work, and giving out advice to viewers regarding their vehicle, and just a few minutes in I realised this sounded like someone who cares about his work, and from the few hints DT gave in their video, it was more likely due to DT rushing to get the car done that lead to any issues instead of them being bad at their job.
Thank you for letting this story be told. I appreciate having both sides of a tale. This was done very well. You’ve let truth be told, and let the truth tell the full story. Props to MadFord for their work. Truly master craftsmen at what they do.
Yes Max! We have been waiting for this insight for years! it was so unfair what they did, a massive channel with millions of followers. It’s akin to RUclips bullying to a small business.
I wouldn't get hung up on it, the car was rushed, not ran in, and raced, so that content could be made. It was a stupid idea racing it against a BTCC car regardless of what happened to the engine. Its just boring meaningless content, like seeing can you do a 3 point turn in a BTCC car in a supermarket carpark, who cares? "well I guess that's a win for the Mondeo". The generation that knows and loves that Mondeo knows that a well driven 2.0 tdi Golf would trounce it around a track, on a back road, etc, and of course rewrite the numbers for reliability, economy, comfort, tech, and safety, but that's not why we restore and revere these cars, we do it because we love the memories. Keep your head held high Mick.👍
This is the video that given me the answers I've wanted for years . I never understood the drivetribe video where they put it in the workshop and just said get a new engine . And slagged off the previous work. I love the drive tribe content . But it feels like auto alex at car throttle, a big company looking for profits rather than the people who work there.
I'd hands down trust this guy at Mad Ford! The crew were so in the wrong all money driven content. Mad Ford is a good company from what I've seen and heard online.
Well done Maxwell, I watch another RUclips creator who builds engines and he will show the bad Jobs other people have done but never name's them . Some things you just don't do. Keep up the good work mate.
In my opinion DT has been on the way down in terms of content. This is much more like it. Genuine. And I hope on its way up. The more people that come across your channel I can’t help believe will feel the same
Great one Max, always good to have both sides of a story, why would they badmouth someone who has worked very hard to do what they ask and then not listern to their experiance, keep them coming
Yea not a good situation for anyone I think. Be careful with content like this cause you don't want your channel focussed just on bashing others. Good to get the balance of the story, but looking forward to MAX Content ;) Not DT re-hashes. Keep smiling!
So greatfull you made this video the fact they was absolutely ripping his work is wrong, I have run a few engines in over the years ye I'm old af.... what they did they had 0 mechanical sympathy for the poor engine and to give it look at all the metal I have seen shavings on my 4th oil n filter change, love your doing your own thing now! Keep up the graft fella. You got rinsed bad. I'm not in the ford community (Vauxhall from the 90,s only)but all my pals are and sing high praises for mad,s work. See you on the next one!
Brilliant blog Maxwell, it’s good to hear the opposite side of the story, Mike Ferne is an automotive engineer he should know the run in procedure of a freshly built engine, as a 6 year old child I knew then that an engine just rebuilt needs to be run in.
@ I know there is filming restraints but with a project like the restoration of the ST200 and rebuilding of its engine you know that it’s not an overnight job, it takes time and patience, and it was done in the mindset of getting content out and never mind doing things in the correct manner, Now Mike at the end of the day has someone he answers to but his engineering knowledge and experience should’ve taken precedence and over ruled, it didn’t but trying my to place the blame and telling half truths is wrong, his honesty and morality comes into question in my opinion
That James Martin thrashed a new build Alfa Romeo engine once for some programme and he was told don't over rev it, but he did and it failed pretty quickly. He cried for the rest of the programme about it and they still gave him the car afterwards.............. Probably rebuilt too.
I've been waiting for this video to come along as I felt the 'other' side portrayed the work (that we all saw Mick and his team undertake) in a poor light. Fair play for bringing this into the light.
The fact in that follow up video DT skirted over the fact the car wasn't ready but had been rushed to the shoot any way and then spent the entire video dumping on Mad Ford is a pretty sh*tty tactic. It just shows how right Alex Kurston is when he says how corporate meddling and oversight ruins car content; the ST200 was destroyed simply because all DT cared about was satisfying the sponsor. Apparently the car is still off the road, so not only did DT do Mick dirty, risk his business' reputation and ruin his health to cover DT's f*ck up, they also killed a genuinely rare classic. And because it's just a business, chances are they'll never come back to it, because the content has been done and they don't care.
Great video, ive subscribed off the back of this. The fact this companies name has been dragged through the mud wrongly is a disgrace. Well done on putting things right 👍
Really interesting video. It is absolutely insane to take freshly build engine and beat on it. Great video and amazing garage. I read somewhere that those Ladnies for L.R.D.G where pink as it worked as a good night desert camo.
I've unsubbed from drivetribe. Disgusting way to treat people. Great job letting mick tell his side of the story. I have now subbed to you too! Great to see your channel grow so fast!!
I had a similar experience with something i custom built on request for a shop when i was first trying to start a new business and it ended up putting me off expanding to that kind of work for anyone else
Thanks max for the amazing work you’ve been doing and can’t wait to see you grow more and more and thanks for give “eyes opening “ about you know who … Keep up mate !
Great to hear his side of the story. My last engine build had a 1000km break in period… not 109miles then thrashing it. Anyone with basic mechanical knowledge cringed at that video and I unsubscribed when fernie dickhead dedicated a whole video to trashing the shop that built it. Loving your new channel. Keep up the great work!
Must admit, I thought at the time that DriveTribe threw them under the bus unfairly (and still do), but it's worth remembering that Maxwell also has an axe to grind with them, and rightfully so in my opinion. I'm sure I remember DT mentioning that thier mechanical issues may well have been to do with drag racing a new engine at the time however. Not saying they were right to do what they did because they obviously weren't, but sometimes its good to observe other aspects to a story.
I had pretty much this same experience doing a job for a RUclipsr “do it quick do it cheap” not fussed about flat and polish that’s fine just do it. Wants to collect car asap not happy with the un flat and polished finish expects it for free or a revenge video for me 😂 last free job I ever did I don’t sign up to that bullshit anymore any business be wary working with any RUclipsrs any slight issue or flaw they are so quick to threaten to slag you off online or like drivetribe actually do it. The only saving grace im glad this RUclipsr didn’t make a video slagging me off
Mick, you're a proper grafter and you do cars to high standards. Drivetribe haven't treated you fairly and, in my opinion, the plan on their part was always to treat you this way. RUclips is all about clicks and DT show no loyalty to other makers.
Another great video, mad DT didn’t wanna bed that engine in. Especially a car of that quality I know it’s not a Ferrari but cmon. Hope Madford business isn’t affected and they can keep going from strength to strength. Sorry to hear about his health issues.
I watched almost every minute of that rebuild, and I can say hands down that the engine did not fail because of poor workmanship, it failed because those plomkers did it themselves. Then they post a video making it look like the rebuild was shoddy and that was very misleading. I haven't watched one of their videos since then. It was clear they were lying about the whole thing to avoid their own accountability.
Maxwell….loving the great videos so far and the many more to come I’m sure. Great to hear the other side of the story in this saga. Poor Mike…poor Mike my fcuk….knew what he was doing whether or not his ‘boss’ told him to or not.
I don't know who is behind what in a production, but I've noticed that ever since Mike started to get into builds, felt that the RUclipsr fame came rushing too hard to his head. Along with a lot of videos being ad driven, the original idea was diluted. I would rather have that channel being just Hammond and Ben Collins only doing videos on the Smallest Cog and the occasional dream drive in a icon car.
This video was done right, explaining the other side and some of the deceitful narrative from Mike, but not throwing blame around. The amount of Land Rovers is mad. Maxwell, you could make another video walking around checking out the cars when you are going back there.
I totally feel for this guy Maxwell. And I totally understand how he feels.

Thank you for this. I had little respect for DT and the Furball presenter. I have none at all now.
Nice video, great to see passionate people talking about their work, and it wasn’t an attacking video, just facts and kept professional 👍
Well done Maxwell, the way this ended for Mad Ford never seemed right, glad you’ve shown the other side. Good luck with the channel!
You're a much better presenter than Mike F. Keep it up! I've unsubscribed from DT it's going downhill!
Well done Maxwell, I watch another RUclips creator who builds engines and he will show the bad Jobs other people have done but never name's them . Some things you just don't do. Keep up the good work mate.
I just saw this video and then went back and watched all of your other ones, can't wait to see the channel grow man! I'm sure it will
In my opinion DT has been on the way down in terms of content. This is much more like it. Genuine. And I hope on its way up. The more people that come across your channel I can’t help believe will feel the same
Great one Max, always good to have both sides of a story, why would they badmouth someone who has worked very hard to do what they ask and then not listern to their experiance, keep them coming
I remember the video popped up off them drag racing it. I didn't watch it but couldn't believe they drag raced it with a rebuilt engine
EXCELLENT .. Doing great work Maxwell .. Keep it up
Great interview. Thanks for the update.
The finish on that ST200 is epic
Another cracking video Max. Set the right tone and the truth free
Brilliant blog Maxwell, it’s good to hear the opposite side of the story, Mike Ferne is an automotive engineer he should know the run in procedure of a freshly built engine, as a 6 year old child I knew then that an engine just rebuilt needs to be run in.
Yeah I've thought that a few times, mike seems pretty clueless for someone who is apparently a qualified engineer
I still remember a lot of comments questioning DT on what happened, especially when they randomly started slagging the work done
I've been waiting for this video to come along as I felt the 'other' side portrayed the work (that we all saw Mick and his team undertake) in a poor light. Fair play for bringing this into the light.
Got a friend who's Dad has one of the genuine pink panthers - such a cool landy
Well done on putting things right 👍
Mad Barn envy! Ooof!! would love that kind of space.
I've dealt with a fair few 'media types' over the years, and they've almost always been self-important bell-ends who think they can do what they want.
Really interesting video. It is absolutely insane to take freshly build engine and beat on it. Great video and amazing garage. I read somewhere that those Ladnies for L.R.D.G where pink as it worked as a good night desert camo.
@@Onimalap exactly right about the pink
Loving the format of your videos. Not fair on Mick what the certain company did. Keep it up!
Great video Maxwell, glad to see the truth coming out
I've unsubbed from drivetribe.
Good video. Not surprised on the story.. given recent happenings there..
Brilliant video though - subbed to the twitch too! Loving the work!
Thanks max for the amazing work you’ve been doing and can’t wait to see you grow more and more and thanks for give “eyes opening “ about you know who …
Keep up mate !
DT need to make amends, or potential face some serious internet backlash - imagine if everyone stopped watching their content
Brilliant vlog, glad to see the correct story, fantastic interview.
Gonna be interesting 😁
Must admit, I thought at the time that DriveTribe threw them under the bus unfairly (and still do), but it's worth remembering that Maxwell also has an axe to grind with them, and rightfully so in my opinion. I'm sure I remember DT mentioning that thier mechanical issues may well have been to do with drag racing a new engine at the time however. Not saying they were right to do what they did because they obviously weren't, but sometimes its good to observe other aspects to a story.
Think they moaned about paint but it was done to the DT timeline
I had pretty much this same experience doing a job for a RUclipsr “do it quick do it cheap” not fussed about flat and polish that’s fine just do it. Wants to collect car asap not happy with the un flat and polished finish expects it for free or a revenge video for me 😂 last free job I ever did I don’t sign up to that bullshit anymore any business be wary working with any RUclipsrs any slight issue or flaw they are so quick to threaten to slag you off online or like drivetribe actually do it. The only saving grace im glad this RUclipsr didn’t make a video slagging me off
Looking at the mot; engine work aside- I wonder with the work that was done in the car, why did it need welding last year to pass.
Mick, you're a proper grafter and you do cars to high standards. Drivetribe haven't treated you fairly and, in my opinion, the plan on their part was always to treat you this way. RUclips is all about clicks and DT show no loyalty to other makers.
Great interview. Well done Max ❤
Another great video, mad DT didn’t wanna bed that engine in. Especially a car of that quality I know it’s not a Ferrari but cmon. Hope Madford business isn’t affected and they can keep going from strength to strength. Sorry to hear about his health issues.
Nice video Maxwell. Keep em coming fella.!
Mick got screwed on the Mondy they also took Munch his apprentice
That doorbell is sick.
Very informative, good work mate!
