Looks like they either don't make the FG any more or have withdrawn it from the market, because it is not on the Chameleon Web site anymore. Anyone knows what happened. Also anyone compared this to comparable Max-Gain or DX Engineering masts. I agree with Bob that Chameleon quality is something we seek and can count on. 73 de ws1m
Well now that's a bummer. I don't own the Max Gain or DX Eng masts so unfortunately I can't offer a comparison.
All references to this mast have been removed from Chameleon's website.
Hmmmm. I'm wondering if this was a special one time order. I'll have to check into that.
@@HOAHamRadio I've confirmed with Chameleon that they discontinued this product and no longer have any remaining stock. Unfortunately the build process was too intensive to be profitable and customers weren't interested in assembling the mast for themselves.
@@nilpo Thanks for sharing the update.
The mast looks great. I love seeing the different setups too.
I have at least one more set up to show in a few weeks. Thanks for the view and comment.
Thanks for the excellent video. A couple of quick questions: what is the highest wind you've had this up in with no guy wires? And what is the diameter of the base? You talk about using an insert in the CHA mast mount but I don't see mention of it in your notes. Where did you get that?
Very great demonstration!
Wow, what a mast! Unbelievably strong and superb construction.
@Chameleon_Antenna why has this disappeared from your Web site, did you discontinue, where there any problems discovered or some other reason? 73 de ws1m
You know what’s cheaper than a cam jam, and always at hand? A taut line hitch.
Need to watch a few RUclips videos and learn how to tie that.
Great video Bob. Chameleon never disappoints!
Thanks for stopping by for a view James.
Question. I am considering adding on the CHA NVIS antenna to my other Chameleon antennas in my radio go kit, but I was reading the manual for that antenna and it showed to set the antenna up at 15 feet off the ground. With this mast only being 12 foot tall, how does that affect the CHA NVIS antenna performance?
Since this is a question of design / performance, I would suggest you consult with Chameleon and ask them if the 12' height makes any difference.
I am doing a video of this very set up right now, with the FG Mast. I can say that the antenna works, I just cant say if it works as intended with the height at 12' instead of 15'.
The 15’ height elevation indicated in the user guide is for the OPTIMAL configuration. Anything about 10’ will work with the CHA NVIS wire antenna kit.
@@Chameleon_Antenna great to know. Thanks for the info.
In SandLand (AKA Phoenix) We dont need a hammer either, but we do need a jackhammer lol
LOL, I am certainly spoiled.
Looks like Chameleon doesn't make it anymore.
Just checked, you're right. They are selling the topper separately that would work with a 1" fiberglass mast.
Nice job, Bob! 73!
Thanks for stopping by to take a look.
Hi Bob - are those the regular size cam jams or the XT? Great videos, your work has helped me tremendously when it comes to ideation with my current HOA based locale. Thanks again for the great videos.
Actually, they were the "small" ones, which I just found out they don't sell anymore. The ones available now are just a little larger it seems.
Excellent video, thank you! It really does look like another great Chameleon mast. Cheers!
Thanks for the view and comment; it surpassed my expectations by far.
Taught line hitch is a great technique and is only the weight of the rope! 👍🏻
I've got to take the time to learn how to tie these useful knots....
Yep, I was able to ditch the cam jams on my smaller mast load out with the taut line hitch.
Thanks for the video! See you at Hamcation!
Absolutely, be sure to flag me down and say hello.
