  • After 8 years of school and 1 year of residency, I finally accomplished my goal of becoming a clinical inpatient pharmacist! I'll be recording my pharmacy journey - navigating life as a first time pharmacist fresh out of my pharmacy residency. I'll also show you a glimpse of what my life is like outside of work as well!
    I am currently a float pharmacist, meaning I "float" around and work different areas of the hospital depending on where they need me. This video is a brief overview of what my day is like when I am covering the IV central pharmacy shift at my hospital.

      Hey guys I’ve got some really great news to share with you, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died on a cross and resurrected on the third day so you may all have eternal life. If you believe and repent of your sins and put your faith and trust in Him as you would a parachute jumping off a plane at 25000 feet up in the air, He will give you eternal life in heaven as a free gift and I promise you, He will change your life forever as He did mine. He is the ONLY way to heaven and He loves you all. Please think deeply about this with urgency because this is your eternal life and soul, you don’t know when you could die, meaning you could die at any moment, so please consider this with all your heart. Should I start learning Pharmacy right now despite the saturation and salary losses? Was finding a job easy for you?

    • @SarahPharmD
      @SarahPharmD  2 года назад +14

      That is a valid question and I'm glad to hear you're weighing the pros/cons of the profession before you start the journey! Yes there is a saturation of pharmacist, but the salary losses depends on what type of field of pharmacy you plan to pursue. I have not heard of any salary issues regarding hospital pharmacist positions, but it is prevalent for outpatient pharmacist positions. I was very fortunate to have found a job right away after residency, but it varies from person to person. Timing is a factor - the amount of pharmacists retiring from the facility, etc. If you are flexible and are willing to relocate, the job search might not be that bad! Try to reach out to your local pharmacists in the area and get their insight! Job prospects can also vary by location. I hope this helps!

      I’m biased but I loved my college experience at UCLA and highly recommend you fully enjoy a college experience 🥺 I say go to college with an open mind too! You’re still young and you may change your mind. My personal opinion is go to college and get your pharmacy technician license so that you can work part time at a retail pharmacy or volunteer at a hospital pharmacy so that you experience it yourself before you commit to pharmacy school! If you are really set on college experience + shortened pharmacy school program, there are rare accelerated programs like UOP that combines undergrad and pharmacy school!

      I will be honest - The profession has become quite saturated unfortunately and is quite competitive in popular areas like orange county and LA. However, if you are willing to relocate, it is easier to find jobs and you can possibly transfer to a more ideal location later on assuming you get hired by a large hospital with multiple locations (kaiser, VA, PIH, etc).

      Hi! For college, my biggest advice is try to get as much pharmacy experience as you can - get your pharmacy technician license to get a part time job at a local pharmacy or volunteer at a hospital pharmacy nearby campus (thats what I did). Experience pharmacy & observe the pharmacists there. See if you can envision yourself working as a pharmacist and ask them questions to gauge how they like the profession. The job market is getting increasingly competitive so you don't want to go through all that effort and realize you don't like it :)

      Student loans varies depending on what pharmacy school you end up going to! In general, most people I know have a range 100-250k in loans. I went to a private pharmacy school so my loans are on the higher end 🥲 BUT… if you end up working for a federal hospital or clinic, you can pay the minimum monthly payment for 10 years and the remainder of your loans will be forgiven! @SarahPharmD  Год назад

      It varies depending on where you are located in the US and what city! As a hospital pharmacist in the west coast in a popular city, my current salary is ~140k a year

      The “is it worth it?” question will vary depending on who you talk to! The job market is becoming increasingly saturated so I would keep that in mind. I love my job - so for me it is worth it, but I am just one person!

    WHIS IS MORE PRODUCTIVE AND WORTH?

      Pharm D if you want clinical stuff.
      Bpharm and Mpharm if you want more industrial and research based studies.
      Also, Pharm D is the basic qualification if you want to be any kind of pharmacist in the US. Even if you are a Bpharm graduate, you have to get a Pharm D degree and give respective exams to work in the US as a licensed pharmacist.
      If you're a Pharm D graduate, you are directly eligible for the exams for the licensing.
      So really, it depends on what area on pharmacy you want to work in :)

      Yes I agree! I rarely interact with patients and I usually communicate with nursing and providers via teams or on the phone. I mainly work directly with the pharmacy technicians or fellow pharmacists during this shift ☺️

    Do not go into pharmacy. It’s the WORST possible career to go into. In fact, avoid all healthcare fields..they are the worst. Go into tech I.e comp sci, etc. way better work life balance.
