    Excellent drill. My issue has always been starting the downswing with my hands/arms, and this drill is by far the best way to give yourself the time to actually feel what is going on at transition. It allows you to focus on your weight shift/left hip going back as the start of the transition. video yourself on your phone for irrefutable video evidence! Thanks JC!

    Mate, thanks so much for this. I had been going through the worst golf of my adult life for the past 4 months. Uncomfortable, hitting it horribly, and ripping the grip off it from the top. Watched this and my practice has consisted of nothing else since. Immediately got back to playing scratch golf after not being able to break 80 and considering giving the game up. Cheers, pal!

    I read that Vijay Singh has a slight pause at the top by thinking the word, "thirteen", but any two-syllable word would work I suppose. Quick anecdote: I was in the middle of my swing with a 3-iron (yes, this was a long time ago) and someone from an adjoining fairway yelled something to one of his playing partners. Instead of stopping, I paused enough at the top to mutter, "Ash hole", and hit the purest 3 iron I've ever hit.

    Spot on Jonathon. The "pause" has always been the most important part of my swing.

    • @jeffhowell4891
      @jeffhowell4891 10 месяцев назад

      I've also found good rythm here and there over the years concentrating on a "pause" at the top. However, what I call pausing and what you might call pausing can be totally different. Also, what we both feel in that moment in time can be different, especially if the pause is brief. If you literally "stop" at the top, like Jonathan, is teaching in this drill, you can not find the middle of the club face w/o getting the downswing sequencing correct.

    • @northotagogolf
      @northotagogolf 10 месяцев назад

      @jeffhowell4891 Yes, indeed, Jeff, there is a difference between pause and stop. My pause is hardly noticeable. In fact, I feel like I'm still moving. Not rushing the downswing is what's important.

    • @emme6907
      @emme6907 9 месяцев назад

      The "pause" works because during that time your wrist naturally turn clockwise, shallowing the plane.

    This one is great. I've been doing it for some time now after watching someone on RUclips do it. It helps me with my tempo, gives me a proper feeling of completing my backswing and stops me from initiating the downswing with just my arms and upper body ( which was causing a " hands swing " and arms racing ahead too fast).

  • @jeffhowell4891
    @jeffhowell4891 10 месяцев назад +2

    Due to watching this from JChownGolf, I went to the range today and tried it. This is by far the best, most productive drill that I have ever done practicing golf. I saw positive results IMMEDIATELY.
    Thank you so much for posting this. The drill does wonders for early extension and the transition movements. Hit my wedge first for about 100 balls and then decided to give the 6i a go. A+++ difference in what I am feeling when starting the downswing.

      @jeffhowell4891 10 месяцев назад

      It's unreal how this drill cures the "blur" of what is really happening in transition. You can NOT get the sequencing wrong after stopping at the top and hit a good shot. Right away, I could feel what I needed to do with my body at the all important moment in time that we call "transition". It took about 10 balls for me to find the middle of the club face (with a wedge) and after that, I was HOOKED. Swear, I am amazed! @@jchowngolf

      If you think about arms during the downswing you will hit over the top most of the time. You need to focus on body rotation and weight shift to the left. The arms will follow the body and fall naturally to your right hip. You just can't think about arms during downswing. Same as baseball. You focus on weight lift. The body will speed up the arms, not the other way around
