From a Japanese perspective, it's intriguing to see how Americans can enjoy sports and competitions like this. If all the spectators were Japanese, I feel like everyone would be more reserved and calm. The level of excitement and enthusiasm they have for events where things explode or collide and break is indicative of cultural differences.

A large part of the American national identity is centered around mastery of our environment through big acts of creation and destruction. When America needed to establish itself on the world stage, a lot of that was done through stuff like exerting our will over the whole of the country ("manifest destiny"), building big things (damming the Colorado river, Mt. Rushmore, etc), or reshaping the landscape to our whims. Combine that with the fetishization of the military that resulted from a war of independence, a war of national survival 30 years later, and then one of the bloodiest civil wars in human history, and you have the perfect recipe for a love of building huge complex things for the hell of it, and then blowing them up just because we can. It's very paradoxical.

    • @gonbenanashino2652

      @@daveemerson6549
It seems that the mindset of enjoying large-scale exploration and destruction has strongly persisted among Americans throughout history. In fact, there are even instances where women partake in such enjoyment.
On the other hand, this cultural perspective is quite difficult for Japanese people to comprehend. Japanese women, in particular, are believed to have little interest in destructive shows.
Japanese people are often seen as too reserved, not expressing their enjoyment openly, which sometimes raises questions about whether they truly embrace and enjoy life.

@@gonbenanashino2652as an American I do get excited by destruction and exploration, but I have a deep appreciation for the Japanese. They have incredible passion for certain things and incredible attention to detail. They seem to display incredible craftsmanship, passion, and dedication in almost every aspect of daily life. I love Japanese tools, cars, and appliances for example because they are built with such care yet are so balanced and well thought out.

Can someone in the know please give the attendance numbers at this event. My best guess would be
    5k to 10k. Thanks.

Hello, Matt's offroad recovery? How about a free trip to Alaska? It's a small recovery job. Well... Yes.. Bring that. Yes... I think we'll need that, too. Tell ya what, bring every recovery vehicle you own.
