    These long-form talkthroughs of yours are great content. Your passion for the thing shows through marvelously.
    Keep doing what you love. It really shows in these videos.

    Just watched all 4 episodes of this little series. Don’t know how I missed it. Its great to watch someone enthusing about a slightly obscure game that is also one of my all time favourites. I couldn’t agree more with your assessment. If they give this game an artistic upgrade for the new edition I will love it but there will also be a part of me that loves the original ‘have a go’ indie mess of the original. Being a fan of the same pulp fiction as yourself I was also amazed when I clapped my eyes on Lost Tomb for the first time. “Yes! They’ve made my game!”. 🤠

    I 100% agree with your wishes for the next installment. I would like to add another big thing I really love about this game: The freedom of choice and options during your turn. There is no railroading here. You can concentrate on dealing with the soul monger, use mechanics of the 4th floor to cleanse the tomb, search for artifact, team up for fighting monsters etc. etc. So many options. What a game. :)

    Thanks so much for this series. I playtested SotLT at Gencon years ago and was very excited about what I was seeing. I did not want to stop playing when the time limit was up. Of course, I went all in when it went to Kickstarter. One of the only games I can't see selling or trading away. Yes, it is a mess but yes, it is a glorious mess.
    I am looking forward to watching you do a playthrough and I hope it is a scenario other than The Pharaoh With the Blue Eyes. Many of the existing videos feature this mission.
    Terrific job!!

    Based on what you like about Secrets of the Lost Tomb, I suspect that 30 years ago, your favorite game might have been Magic Realm. Like Secrets, everything in Magic Realm is available to the players from turn one, and you can have some glorious moments where, despite all odds, you prevail (or horribly fail)

    • @TheDungeonDive
      @TheDungeonDive  4 года назад

      Possible. This is a much simpler game, and I'm not a very smart game player. :)

      @APaladinInCitadel 4 года назад +1

      @@TheDungeonDive No, I meant that for its day, Magic Realm was amazing, but that there has been 40 years of game design since then, and so you would probably have moved on to other, "better" games. But it was incredibly innovative for the 1970s/80s.

    This is the designers comments on a new edition from a BGG post in September: "New Scenarios - Cleaner Rules (same) but cleaner rulebook - updates to components - minor balance updates - maybe some new art 🙂 ETC" It doesn't sound like they are going to make sweeping changes. I was a first edition backer and it was kind of a disaster with pages out of order and even duplicated pages in the rulebook (or scenario book I can't remember). Starting items that were not even included in the game. I think they must have fixed a lot of issues with the 2nd edition or your impressions would not have been so favorable... That being said, I might be up for a reprint as I did really enjoy the character who could mind control monsters. I got rid of my 1st edition long ago.

      If they updated the art, I would be interested in Revised Edition.

      Its a shame because this looks like a pretty fun game, but the inadequate art and design is a deal-breaker for me, there is no excuse for a lack of good game design and art considering how much the cost of art and design has dropped in the last 10 years. If they ever give this game a proper facelift I might consider buying it, but in its current form, its a pass for me. Love your enthusiasm for the game Daniel, it almost pushed me over the fence!

      Art is the number one thing for me in a game, so you know this game has to be good if I can overlook it's design.

    I like the idea of Arkham/Eldritch Horror mechanics + tile laying adventure. I think I would prefer a different theme. Something about the theme isn't sitting right with me. It doesn't have to be generic fantasy and the tomb raiding fits well with tile laying. Hard to put my finger on it. I like both Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider, but maybe them went too broad? Atlantis and Nazis and Four Horsemen and Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider and Cultists.

    • @TheDungeonDive
      @TheDungeonDive  4 года назад +1

      Those are all elements found in any number of pulp adventure stories. Tons of lost world stories revolve around Atlantis, ancient aliens, lost technology, half-breed races. All stuff taken from the pages of Weird Tales. That’s why it’s so good!
