Damn , they keep changing the Latin names on these fish , I used to breed quite a lot of them , just getting back into it. Great vid. The Cyprinodon species mainly live in the desert in springs , most of them are on the CITES list as endangered or vulnerable , difficult to obtain without a permit. A lot of them are native to the USA. Difficult to keep due to water conditions required. So you weren't able to get any Procatopus ? I send you a link on Patreon for a source . To bad you don't ship to Canada or I'd get with you for a purchase :P
I have a pro-democrat taiwan🇹🇼 paradise gourami fish named (BLUETIGER) he will be bred with a female fighter plakat bettafish to make a new generation of paradise fighter fish that will at a teenage size will be trained in a muhammad ali self-defense boxing style against republican killifish and the republican southern and northern {studfish}
Passionate intro. I love to see those who are influential in the hobby, use their platform to make a difference in preservation, breeding, care, and raising fish keeping standards/best practices. I really enjoyed seeing these Killis. They're not something I have kept but they are on my bucket list. Thanks for an informative and beautiful video Lucas!
We were really glad you were able to come and check out the show! As far as naming, you have the genus (aphyosemion), species (australe), then the location type (BWSG 97-24). The location for most fish are either based on the nearest town or river, or are the collectors initials (BWSG), year collected (97) and the location number during that trip (24). You can have multiple fish from the same species with different location numbers and you only want to breed together the same locations. One location may turn out to be considered a different species!
Thank you for the crazy hours trying to get videos out. Another info-packed video - your ending statement while you were outside at sunrise was a nice touch - quiet neighborhood, the birds in the background, the sun shining a bit - I cannot wait til our mornings in NYS start looking like that!
These fish are obscure due to their lack of availability. Have been actively seeking a blue Guliaris to no avail. Everyone has the sources locked up drum tight. Great vid. I subbed.
thank you, Lucas for the great video. you're so patient, filming each bowl and giving us the names. killifish are a mystery to me. I haven't researched them at all, but I am keen on doing more for endangered fish species. thanks again...luv ya💓
I also have a thing for blue and green fish. Seems like red and orange are so popular...which are my least favorite. Thanks for giving blue and green fish some love!
The codes are often added to the fish name to distinguish one population from another. Usually the collector's initials with the year and a location number. So LRB 2018/2 would mean collected by LRB during the 2018 trip at location 2 (you would need the details of the collection trip if you wanted to know exactly where that was).
I love killis! We very rarely get them here in the UK. Although I did see some gardnerii at the lfs today. Setting up a planted nano while I watch, might make me decide to throw some lamp eyes in once we're up and running!
Shaun Jones yeah, I've seen them but never pulled the trigger. Our local shop seems to be improving lots lately though, got some awesome gardneri in at the moment
I would def. recommend it. Its amazing what you can find and learn. Mayb one day I will get to meet you at one... I am planning on getting into speaking at events more so hopefully I can travel around more.
i am planing on starting to breed aquarium fish by next year, kind of waiting on forming a list of species to breed based on rarity and endangered and just whats wanted! probably gonna start a forum or group to help make that list, i feel the same way as you explained about killifish , about SA dwarf cichlids that have lost to the hobby, another great vid lucus keep it up!!!!!
Looked like an awesome time, man! How are your Segrest rummy nose doing? I got a batch, two days ago, and woke up to a goner each morning, so far. They don't show any signs of infection, they are just dead. The ottos I got are also looking really weak. Probably will not be ordering from Segrest again haha
I am very interested in killifish, enjoyed your video. I have ordered 3 pairs of Gardneri killis to play with. My water ph is 8.2, GH 11 and KH 8, so not sure if this will work out well. Trying new things is important.
If youre still looking for good info on killifish id recommend checking out Phil Grady and David Ramsay here on youtube as well as inglorious bettas. Also would reccomend checking out a podcast called "killifish hour" by natures talk show
Joining the AKA or maybe ask around local club. Aquabid has eggs, you could go to a show or convention. I am planning on trying to make more available of different types here in the next coming months.
If you like these fish and want to know even more about them and how to breed them check out the American Killifish Association: www.aka.org/

Another amazing video. Thanks for this!

Same thing has happened with me on them and even been medicating : / Rest of the fish besides the black neons are all doing fine though.

They do prefer soft water.
I have been looking into Killifish but nobody makes a good video about them

You need to get a small flashlight or other portable light source for times like this where the light is so bad
One you can shine above them
Lol at the end of it I noticed they had some flash lights but it was my first convention filming them so lesson learned.
My favorite is blue gularis or clown killi.
How could we get some of those fish ? Could I keep 2 in a 6 gallon planted fluval edge ?

L.R.Bretz's Aquatics I'd love to get a few of yours so please me posted 😁
Did you bring home the Lampeyes?
You'll have to check out todays video ; )
Hey what killifish do you have for sale ?
None at the moment
lol feel r a secound thought your where in are mas lol montreal aquarium society
If you come back this year 2020, I will give you the tour of the classes and names.
You show the names of the fish longer than you show the fishes.... And many times the camera wasn't focused when shooting the fish.
I did the best I could with the equipment and time I had. Your criticism is noted and will work on that.
@@LRBaquatics cheers, thankyou for sharing too
Shhhh!
