This scene broke me. Watching Alma die was so unexpected. However, she made the choice. If you watch her, she looks right at Briana seconds before it hit. Like saying don't stop. She had time to stop but I believe she chose to die rather than stay on the side of the tracks where Aunt Lidia was. Briana I don't think noticed.

I know for a fact, if I was in the same situation, knowing my son is finally safe in Canada and my choices were die free or end up in the 'breeders colony' under aunt Lydia...I would have made the same choice. This episode was also Elizabeth Moss directing debut. There are little things in eps 3 that you can see are more detailed in the handmaid's than in other seasons. For example, before they run out of the birth mobile, the girls use their eyes to communicate. They mentally know what the other is thinking without speaking one word. Then Aunt Lydia connects with her eyes and knows what's about to happen. It's the way Elizabeth used their eyes to say what did not need to be verbalized and it was a beautifully executed scene.

something i do really like about this show is that they give characters a proper send off. so many just drop the actors and don’t bother to explain why they’re gone once a new season starts. but cora, beth, and sienna all got a proper ending, which were all gruesome of course, but at least good from a storytelling perspective

Imagine a scene where all of them got reunited with Moira and Emily in Canada. THE HAPPY GROUP HUG vs the heartbroken one where all the handmaids hug after a child is taken away from them.
It really wasn't, why would they let the killer of 6 commanders and liberator of 86 children live, then give her such an easy escape by 'leaving the door unlocked'?. These new episodes have been entertaining sure, but only if you don't actually think about them. Since season 3, the writing has been so unrealistic. June with her insane plot armor should've died years ago.
@@AWOLeeds not the first show who gives privileges to the main character; I mean, you are right about how unrealistic it is that she is still alive because they could've killed her a thousand times, but that does not mean that the scene in this video is bad because it is one of the best artistic and technically, in my opinion. Plot is a different issue and a more subjective one.

What absolutely killed me, was that they all had these hopeful triumphant smiles on their faces as they ran away, and then in an instance it was all over. I was balling my eyes out.
Elizabeth Moss directed this episode and she explained how she wanted the shot in the van to show the Handmaid’s communicating through their eyes. Then you see their faces with hope as they’re running. All these emotions without a word being said. The flashback to the Red Center seems to continues this theme of “connection” and communicating in silence.
Yes it was brilliant but Aunt Lydia did observe the looks she knew something was coming the looks in their eyes said it all "Fuck this we are done! We refuse to go back"

@@thecircledk8597 They are only ''terrorists'' from the Gilliand POV (who are the REAL terrorist not only for what they are doing but for how they came to power). They are not separatists either cause they do not seek territorial autonomy. They merely fight for their human rights and freedom. They do not want to kill innocents or plan some operations to prove something. So they are neither. And no, that weren't ''orders'', they were equals at this moment.
Lydia is hands down the most complex yet well written character. She tries to keep them alive not only for them to continune breeding, but because she loves them deep down. But still, she does not hesitate to hurt them if she has to. Technically she is their mother, but in a very sick and twisted way. Probably my favourite character in the show.
I still feel like she would be more loving from seeing her backstory. I suppose she was messed up and seemed to hate herself but she was loving and caring. I'm surprised she would agree with how gilead corrupted the bible for their gains as well.
This is one of the most jawdropping moment of the entire series. My mouth was wide open after this. I suppose all of them are free, one way or another. Death is a way better fate than Gilead for these women. As for Lydia, she lost the girls not once, not twice, not thrice, but four times. It's ridiculous if she didn't end up on the wall.

Did you see the promos Hulu posted leading up to the season premiere? They kept using the tag line “freedom is a state of mind. “ Each clip summarized a character’s journey with their voice overs. Emily’s voiceover said “I’ll never be free” even though she’s in Canada and Lydia said “I’ll always be free”
Brianna and Alma will be dearly missed. They died in a split second and whilst this broke all of us fans, their death was merciful compared to the life they would have continued to live in the breeding colony. And, let's not forget the deaths of Beth and Sienna (the Martha's of Commander Lawrence) from Season 3. Beth was in season 2 too. WE DEMAND BLOOD, AUNT LYDIA MUST SUFFER. ALL GILEAD LOYALISTS MUST SUFFER
I did read it. And woopdy doo to her she doesnt deserve to live after everything she has done. She didn't have to scream and yell when they ran out of the van considering June could of killed her then and there. Aunt Lydia is beyond redemption IMO
Radiohead is one of my favorite bands and when i heard this song play in the scene i just knew something really epic was about to happen. This scene broke my heart and left me in tears. When music and cinema mesh so beautifully it’s really something magical.
It was so brutal and devastating 😭😭😭. It was so shocking as we’ve known these characters since season 1 but I guess to some extent it makes sense. This is a revolution and some will die but it destroyed me nonetheless
The sad thing this is reality when people fight for their lives during a genocide not everyone will make it out alive that is the sacrifice an army must make.
I feel like they knew getting hit by a train was a better way to go then what would of most likely continued to happen to them. It was like they were okay if that's where it ended because it was their choice and not somebody else's.

I am trying to think that I wasn't sure if I really did see her jump in front of the train or if was the desperation of wanting to cross over so badly she didn't even see how close it was or she did see it and jumped in front in hopes of saving Bri from death but that still keeps her alive to suffer even more. I'm not sure anymore.

I am new to Handmaid’s Tale and this is my favorite scene, probably in all TV shows I’ve seen. The suspense is captured perfectly and upon dissection it is clear how one decision (not tasing/beating Lydia) can mean life or death for others. Mere fractions of a second can change the outcome. After the train strikes their friends dead, Elisabeth Moss and Madeline Brewer nailed it. I think everyone, even the guardian, was in shock for a few seconds. I love how we didn’t have to hear June telling Janine “We gotta go”, to understand perfectly. It not only pulls you into the moment as the sound of the train is deafening, but it also captures the excerpt from chapter 1 of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale (1985). “We learned to lip-read, our heads flat on the beds, turned sideways, watching each other’s mouths. In this way we exchanged names, from bed to bed: Alma. Janine. Dolores. Moira. June”
I will ALWAYS remember that scene, it's burned into the back of my mind same with the scene with the two teens that were persecuted for falling in love, when she spoke about how love is kind, I couldn't hold my tears back. the whole show is just traumatizing.
Because they didn't want to leave her behind but the truth is Alma and Bri died because of June if she had just tackled Lydia and ran out of the truck with her sisters they would be alive but June is so consumed with hate, rage, power. June has gotten so many killed sadly 😞

You either stay behind and let some monster confuse you and hold you back or you run for your life and the safety of your sisters. But June is selfish and full of rage she has caused a lot of deaths. Alma and Bri could have been alive if she didn't waste time on Lydia which Lydia was trying to distract June as much as she could until the guard came back.
The expression of Janine at the end breaks your heart I mean what else these girls have to go through until their suffering is over? And Janine is not like June, I'm afraid she won't last until the end
If I’m remember correctly we did a bit of an experiment back in my filmography class in high school. We took depressing and powerful scenes like this…..and simply…..took the music out. The difference in tone was astounding. Then we tried adding different music, ranging from normal to….completely unfitting. Sound makes a scene and music pulls you into that scene making it seem as if time itself is moving around that moment.
I’ve just watched this episode and I can’t help thinking if only June hadn’t stayed on top of Aunt Lydia (with the rage in her eyes) for those few seconds, Alma and Brianna may have made it across the tracks. Just the most perfect song for this scene. Their steps are just about in tandem with the metronome.
If they left first, she might have shot them too, the first action is eliminate the first immediate threat, I wish they had killed the driver guard too
Alma, Brianna and Beth were one of my favorite characters, still are. Their deaths had me bawl my eyes out. Completed s4 just now and still crying over this one episode 😭😭
I would have preferred if they'd killed June instead, & have Alma be the main hand-maid after that. June was already grating on me by this stage, Alma is a protagonist I could actually root for.
Alma and the others should have ran. No waited for June. June hesitating over lydia killed Alma at the very least. Alma was one of my favourites by far. She was a good middle person for janines extreme kindness and junes pure cut throat attitude. But I do feel even if Alma made it, its less likely 3 of them would have made it all the way to illinois
I will never forget watching this at 3am in my bed, and trying to stifle all the emotions that were coming out of me, so as not to wake the household. Unbeievably powerful and an absolute punch to the gut to lose those wonderful characters so quickly.
Poor Alma, if she didn't have to convince June to not kill Lydia, they all would have made it. Those few seconds made the difference. And honestly, the scene where the low car passes and you don't see the girls, it just breaks you.
This scene was so powerful. The show has an incredible way of always choosing songs that fit perfectly with each scene and make you feel the darkest emotions of living in Gilead. Another scene that i felt in my core was "Women's Work" at Fenway.
That scene was so powerful too! The Crossing was more shocking because of the end result. But you are right, Fenway felt just as powerful because the song helped you connect with the characters and they drew the scene out, so you really grasped how terrified they all were and the gravity of the situation.
Cloudbusting and Into Dust as well were amazing choices for their respective moments (June after she killed a Commander cut with Marthas cleaning the scene and when the Handmaids carried June through the woods after she was shot).
@@joshuahughes-davies7124 - I really liked that whole montage when they played "Cloudbusting." The juxtaposition of June getting dressed while the Marthas handled cleaning up the crime scene and disposing of Commander Elliott Stabler. Perfect!
Music is so perfect in this scene. One of the better scenes from the series. The song is based on a book about a street child who has to choose between staying in the world of the living, or moving on to the world of the dead. He chooses to stay because of love. The love he has known, and the love he has yet to know. I was in tears watching this one. Just beautifully done.
Been a long time Radiohead fan but the interviews where Thom Yorke discusses this song are very far from this description, any interview where I can look at?
The 20 to 30 seconds June spent Choking Lyda and deciding whether to kill her or not would have had everyone the other side of the train had she run instead. Just saying.
Yeah, it's sad. After all the stuff June went through now she will also have this guilt that her friends died because of her actions (except for Janine, who ended up back in Gilead anyway).
It was their choice to wait for her. The rest of them could've started running even besides Alma and gotten a head start, but after she gets out of the van she's ahead of everyone else. Don't blame her, it needed to happen for the plot bc she's the main character.

Yeah June keeps f-ing it up for the other hadmaids. Moira was right she doesn’t think of the consequences and can act very selfishly. She should have never went back to the brothel to try to be a superhero 🤦🏻♀️. The girls would have been safe a little while longer. But let’s see where this goes and how “everyone will clean up June’s mess” 🧐. Imagine if June makes it out of this hell. I hope they let Ofwarren make it out. 😖

I already had PTSD from Beth's and Sienna's deaths, but Alma's and Brianna's deaths literally killed me. I wanted to punch my TV. I was so angry, but so sad at the same time. I really hope that they show their flashback stories.
I love how June, Janine, Alma, Brianna, and the other handmaids exchanged looks and immediately knew what their plan was. I was heartbroken when Alma and Brianna were struck by the train, but at least they died in their own way of being free from Gilead.
This scene is indeed one of the best scenes in the show, i would say. the grief i feel is immeasurable right now. proves over and over again why we love this show so very much, it manages to grip us and pull us apart into pieces - my heart keeps sinking. the cast is wonderful to say the least. "fade out (street spirit) by radiohead" - achingly beautiful.
The song gives me chills... When only first series was out, someone made a fanvideo for Emily, then thought to be dead, using this song. It fits the world of Gilead so well... And now they used it in actual soundtrack for the death of Alma, Brianna and two others who we knew so briefly...
Yes i have recognized that also...while i was waiting for season 4 to premiere and discoverd this beautiful fan-made video, i imagined in some way they will use Radiohead version of the song in some scene, in an opening or something....i was thrilled when it suddenly first played and couldn't believe they actually used it in the show. You really can’t blame June cause after all these chose to stay when they could have gotten on the plane. They wouldn’t have gone far without her either. They did wait for her but without her idea they wouldn’t have had a chance to run. So sad for those four handmaids that didn’t have a chance. 😢
That is not true that they wouldn't have made it far without her these women are all strong and just as strong as June. June wouldn't have made it far without all the girls and they wouldn't have made it without her. It's not all about June 🙄 June has too much plot armor I would like to see more back stories on the other girls like Alma, Bri, Janine etc. And again this is June's fault them 2 died she is so hungry for power and revenge rather than the freedom for her and her sisters. She should have just tacked Lydia ran out and took off with them and they would have made it.

June could have kept Lydia from calling out to the guard. They all might have made it besides June. But a big part of the story is about these women's love for each other. But I think it's unfair to blame their deaths on her- there was no way to know the perfect way to do things and they were all doing their best with the options they had.

June was even starting to act and talk like Lydia when she was whispering in Esther's ear "make me proud dear" then after she manipulated Esther she goes to lay in bed with June and she has this evil look in her eye like "Ha I got you where I want you" June has saved many lives I know and she cares but there is evil in her and she is dangerous.

The way of using street spirit in this scene is genius 👏 as much as this is heartbreaking. When you're fighting in a war sacrices are made and I love that the show understands that. The whole scene infact the whole episode is incredible. Well done Elizabeth for not only the acting but the direction. I hope this is the turning point!
its not like june asked them to stay alright? its not her fault; they made that choice and they knew there was a 50-50 they d be out or be gone; and unfortunately for a lot of them it resulted in the second. But they died badass because they managed to get two of theirs out; so for how painful it is their sacrifice was worth it....
I wish we got to see all of the handmaids fight more for longer 😭 they were all so powerful and brought so much to the show... I would have loved for alma to find her son and to learn more about her past😭
Everything about this scene is amazing from the music to the silent conversation between the women, even though it ends up being one of the saddest scenes. Love how they are smiling as they run. At least they died free.

Incredible scene. The emotion is so real and apparent, the music choice is perfect. The unsaid words but communication through their eyes...This scene mirrors real life; a growing love for those who can die in the blink of an eye. How a fucked up system can destroy those that deserve better. I love anything that make me feel this deeply. Truly heartbreaking. As viewers we grew to love these women and seeing them die like this just fuels the need for justice against the system that destroyed them. If the writers know what’s good for them they will give us this within the story. It would be an incredible journey of emotion and eventual redemption we all need and crave.

Still, I like how this scene ended, they had very little time to think and what you suggest takes time to get planned. Also, they got very far away without serious consequences and Gilead is not that easy to crack, it is important to show how a revolution is made little by little and mistake by mistake
@@riverrojas2036 I understand what you're saying, but June took time to immobilize Lydia, and this was after the guard had said he would go for a quick WC break. They didn't think that by the time they try to run for it the guard would be back? That's just too inconvenient, and a very bad plan to begin with, which would be strange since they have been trying to be very careful. Too me it just seems a bad narrative attempt to delete certain characters.

I think this is going to turn Lydia against Gilead. Between seeing Hannah used as a pawn and the women she - in a really fucked up way -- loves and sees herself as responsible for shot/throwing themselves into the path of a train rather than staying captive, I think she's going to turn. As horrific as her behavior has been, I think Lydia really does value children above all else. (To be clear, I'm not saying she's a good person -- she's horrible. But I do think she has a code, and I think this could be her breaking point.)

What absolutely killed me, was that they all had these hopeful triumphant smiles on their faces as they ran away, and then in an instance it was all over. I was balling my eyes out.

Elizabeth Moss directed this episode and she explained how she wanted the shot in the van to show the Handmaid’s communicating through their eyes. Then you see their faces with hope as they’re running. All these emotions without a word being said. The flashback to the Red Center seems to continues this theme of “connection” and communicating in silence.
They did a great job with the unspoken communication.
Yes it was brilliant but Aunt Lydia did observe the looks she knew something was coming the looks in their eyes said it all "Fuck this we are done! We refuse to go back"

They are not separatists either cause they do not seek territorial autonomy. They merely fight for their human rights and freedom. They do not want to kill innocents or plan some operations to prove something. So they are neither. And no, that weren't ''orders'', they were equals at this moment.
You can see Lydia fear for them too. What an incredible actress.

Ann Dowd steals every scene
Lydia is hands down the most complex yet well written character. She tries to keep them alive not only for them to continune breeding, but because she loves them deep down. But still, she does not hesitate to hurt them if she has to. Technically she is their mother, but in a very sick and twisted way. Probably my favourite character in the show.
Amen! She seemed panicked, almost like, "Stop! If you run I can’t protect you!"
I still feel like she would be more loving from seeing her backstory. I suppose she was messed up and seemed to hate herself but she was loving and caring. I'm surprised she would agree with how gilead corrupted the bible for their gains as well.
This is one of the most jawdropping moment of the entire series. My mouth was wide open after this.
I suppose all of them are free, one way or another. Death is a way better fate than Gilead for these women.
As for Lydia, she lost the girls not once, not twice, not thrice, but four times. It's ridiculous if she didn't end up on the wall.
In the Testaments it turns out Lydia is part of the resistance.

Did you see the promos Hulu posted leading up to the season premiere? They kept using the tag line “freedom is a state of mind. “ Each clip summarized a character’s journey with their voice overs. Emily’s voiceover said “I’ll never be free” even though she’s in Canada and Lydia said “I’ll always be free”

Brianna and Alma will be dearly missed. They died in a split second and whilst this broke all of us fans, their death was merciful compared to the life they would have continued to live in the breeding colony.
And, let's not forget the deaths of Beth and Sienna (the Martha's of Commander Lawrence) from Season 3. Beth was in season 2 too.

I am trying to think that I wasn't sure if I really did see her jump in front of the train or if was the desperation of wanting to cross over so badly she didn't even see how close it was or she did see it and jumped in front in hopes of saving Bri from death but that still keeps her alive to suffer even more. I am new to Handmaid’s Tale and this is my favorite scene, probably in all TV shows I’ve seen. The suspense is captured perfectly and upon dissection it is clear how one decision (not tasing/beating Lydia) can mean life or death for others. Mere fractions of a second can change the outcome. After the train strikes their friends dead, Elisabeth Moss and Madeline Brewer nailed it. I think everyone, even the guardian, was in shock for a few seconds. I love how we didn’t have to hear June telling Janine “We gotta go”, to understand perfectly. It not only pulls you into the moment as the sound of the train is deafening, but it also captures the excerpt from chapter 1 of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale (1985).
“We learned to lip-read, our heads flat on the beds, turned sideways, watching each other’s mouths. In this way we exchanged names, from bed to bed:
Alma. Janine. Dolores. Moira. June”
I agree and love this scene, though I'm not new to THT. Shallow and most likely extremely young people complain on reddit it's "boring" and "drags".
This and the scene where they thought they we're gonna get hanged got me in tears ..

I will ALWAYS remember that scene, it's burned into the back of my mind same with the scene with the two teens that were persecuted for falling in love, when she spoke about how love is kind, I couldn't hold my tears back. the whole show is just traumatizing.

Because they didn't want to leave her behind but the truth is Alma and Bri died because of June if she had just tackled Lydia and ran out of the truck with her sisters they would be alive but June is so consumed with hate, rage, power. June has gotten so many killed sadly 😞

If I’m remember correctly we did a bit of an experiment back in my filmography class in high school. We took depressing and powerful scenes like this…..and simply…..took the music out. The difference in tone was astounding. Then we tried adding different music, ranging from normal to….completely unfitting. Sound makes a scene and music pulls you into that scene making it seem as if time itself is moving around that moment.
I’ve just watched this episode and I can’t help thinking if only June hadn’t stayed on top of Aunt Lydia (with the rage in her eyes) for those few seconds, Alma and Brianna may have made it across the tracks.
Just the most perfect song for this scene. Their steps are just about in tandem with the metronome.
That's the point, after what they experience in Gilead, the rage and pain they are left with may still kill them/hurt others, if Gilead won't.
If they left first, she might have shot them too, the first action is eliminate the first immediate threat, I wish they had killed the driver guard too

I will never forget watching this at 3am in my bed, and trying to stifle all the emotions that were coming out of me, so as not to wake the household. Unbeievably powerful and an absolute punch to the gut to lose those wonderful characters so quickly.
Poor Alma, if she didn't have to convince June to not kill Lydia, they all would have made it. Those few seconds made the difference. And honestly, the scene where the low car passes and you don't see the girls, it just breaks you.
This scene was so powerful. The show has an incredible way of always choosing songs that fit perfectly with each scene and make you feel the darkest emotions of living in Gilead. Another scene that i felt in my core was "Women's Work" at Fenway.
That scene was so powerful too! The Crossing was more shocking because of the end result. But you are right, Fenway felt just as powerful because the song helped you connect with the characters and they drew the scene out, so you really grasped how terrified they all were and the gravity of the situation.
Cloudbusting and Into Dust as well were amazing choices for their respective moments (June after she killed a Commander cut with Marthas cleaning the scene and when the Handmaids carried June through the woods after she was shot).
@@joshuahughes-davies7124 - I really liked that whole montage when they played "Cloudbusting." The juxtaposition of June getting dressed while the Marthas handled cleaning up the crime scene and disposing of Commander Elliott Stabler. Perfect!
Music is so perfect in this scene. One of the better scenes from the series. The song is based on a book about a street child who has to choose between staying in the world of the living, or moving on to the world of the dead. He chooses to stay because of love. The love he has known, and the love he has yet to know. I was in tears watching this one. Just beautifully done.

The 20 to 30 seconds June spent Choking Lyda and deciding whether to kill her or not would have had everyone the other side of the train had she run instead. Just saying.

I already had PTSD from Beth's and Sienna's deaths, but Alma's and Brianna's deaths literally killed me. I wanted to punch my TV. I was so angry, but so sad at the same time. I really hope that they show their flashback stories.

I love how June, Janine, Alma, Brianna, and the other handmaids exchanged looks and immediately knew what their plan was. I was heartbroken when Alma and Brianna were struck by the train, but at least they died in their own way of being free from Gilead.
They should’ve held Aunt Lydia down while one of them got in the driver’s seat (assuming the keys were still in it). Oh well.

This scene is indeed one of the best scenes in the show, i would say. the grief i feel is immeasurable right now. proves over and over again why we love this show so very much, it manages to grip us and pull us apart into pieces - my heart keeps sinking. the cast is wonderful to say the least. "fade out (street spirit) by radiohead" - achingly beautiful.
The song gives me chills... When only first series was out, someone made a fanvideo for Emily, then thought to be dead, using this song. It fits the world of Gilead so well... And now they used it in actual soundtrack for the death of Alma, Brianna and two others who we knew so briefly...
Yes i have recognized that also...while i was waiting for season 4 to premiere and discoverd this beautiful fan-made video, i imagined in some way they will use Radiohead version of the song in some scene, in an opening or something....i was thrilled when it suddenly first played and couldn't believe they actually used it in the show.

You really can’t blame June cause after all these chose to stay when they could have gotten on the plane. They wouldn’t have gone far without her either. They did wait for her but without her idea they wouldn’t have had a chance to run. So sad for those four handmaids that didn’t have a chance. 😢

June has too much plot armor I would like to see more back stories on the other girls like Alma, Bri, Janine etc.
And again this is June's fault them 2 died she is so hungry for power and revenge rather than the freedom for her and her sisters. She should have just tacked Lydia ran out and took off with them and they would have made it.

June could have kept Lydia from calling out to the guard. They all might have made it besides June. But a big part of the story is about these women's love for each other. They didn't want to leave her behind- but they also understood the risks in doing so. This is a heart breaking scene and I agree that June def has plot armor. But I think it's unfair to blame their deaths on her- there was no way to know the perfect way to do things and they were all doing their best with the options they had.

June was even starting to act and talk like Lydia when she was whispering in Esther's ear "make me proud dear" then after she manipulated Esther she goes to lay in bed with June and she has this evil look in her eye like "Ha I got you where I want you" June has saved many lives I know and she cares but there is evil in her and she is dangerous.

The way of using street spirit in this scene is genius 👏 as much as this is heartbreaking. When you're fighting in a war sacrices are made and I love that the show understands that. The whole scene infact the whole episode is incredible. Well done Elizabeth for not only the acting but the direction. I hope this is the turning point!

But they died badass because they managed to get two of theirs out; so for how painful it is their sacrifice was worth it....
I wish we got to see all of the handmaids fight more for longer 😭 they were all so powerful and brought so much to the show... I would have loved for alma to find her son and to learn more about her past😭

But this is what hard feels like: you make decisions and people can die in front of you and you are nothing but full of regret and mistakes and that doesn’t go away. Her journey out of Gilead is very hard, and although we show a lot of those trials and tribulations, we are very nice, compared to what those situations are in actual life." -Bruce Miller, the writer of this episode
Incredible scene. The emotion is so real and apparent, the music choice is perfect. The unsaid words but communication through their eyes...This scene mirrors real life; a growing love for those who can die in the blink of an eye. How a fucked up system can destroy those that deserve better. I love anything that make me feel this deeply. Truly heartbreaking. As viewers we grew to love these women and seeing them die like this just fuels the need for justice against the system that destroyed them. If the writers know what’s good for them they will give us this within the story. It would be an incredible journey of emotion and eventual redemption we all need and crave.

The knowing looks in the van was spot on! Loved it! The song was perfect! The last scene perfectly heartbreaking.

This scene has stuck with me since watching it, my jaw dropped. I so wanted alma to beat that train 😭 such a beautiful scene, shot very well.
Alma and Brianna knew they were going to get hit, but they were more terrified of being on the side of the train where Lydia and the guard were :(
They could have beaten Lydia until she was unconscious, then hide until the guard came up, beat him too, steal his gun and run away. No, but this way is the fastest to remove characters.
The guard was armed and shot two of them at sight, they wouldn't had a chance
@@riverrojas2036 Dude, of course he shot two of them because they were in his line of sight. If they had closed the vehicle back doors and hidden behind the other side before he returned from the WC break, he wouldn't even know a thing. But then, you miss the point.
@@andreamorim7365 nah, I got you, they need to reduce characters before we start to love them and then have a back story to tell and this would consume time from the main characters. Still, I like how this scene ended, they had very little time to think and what you suggest takes time to get planned. Also, they got very far away without serious consequences and Gilead is not that easy to crack, it is important to show how a revolution is made little by little and mistake by mistake
@@riverrojas2036 I understand what you're saying, but June took time to immobilize Lydia, and this was after the guard had said he would go for a quick WC break. They didn't think that by the time they try to run for it the guard would be back? That's just too inconvenient, and a very bad plan to begin with, which would be strange since they have been trying to be very careful. Too me it just seems a bad narrative attempt to delete certain characters.
@@andreamorim7365 well, I have to say that I respect your opinion, but I don't think it was a bad a choice, for me is very rational to commit mistakes like this over problems that requires minutes to resolve, this was the case. But again that is what I think. I like seeing different opinions. Let's keep watching the show and see where is all going to end.

I think this is going to turn Lydia against Gilead. Between seeing Hannah used as a pawn and the women she - in a really fucked up way -- loves and sees herself as responsible for shot/throwing themselves into the path of a train rather than staying captive, I think she's going to turn. As horrific as her behavior has been, I think Lydia really does value children above all else. (To be clear, I'm not saying she's a good person -- she's horrible. But I do think she has a code, and I think this could be her breaking point.)
I think if Lydia had just not screamed they would have all made it

I screamed so loudly, I thought a neighbor would knock to check on me. Then came the uncontrollable sobbing. Beth, Sienna, Brianna and Alma all in one episode. Devastating.

God i am so absolutely floored after watching this episode, had to put something else on to raise my spirits. Absolutely phenomenal acting and SO upset about the lost handmaids 😭
This was utterly heartbreaking… undoubtedly the best single episode of the whole show. It was a masterpiece, my heart was pounding 100mph the whole episode!
