I've spent the last 25 years on the water, and I'd never seen a boat that can handle that kind of sea that easily. Great job of steering, of course, but that's one seriously impressive boat.
I have watched this video at least a half dozen times. I am mesmerized by it. I would have paid good money to be on that boat with that captain. What a memory that would make.
Thanks for posting this video. I've often wondered what it would be like to be on such a small boat in such big waves, and this provides about the most movement one can get in a boat big enough to carry a useful load. That's a tough little boat, which would make it a total blast to play with in such heavy surf, as long as you did not have to actually do anything, like rescue someone, requiring going out into that weather. Now, THAT would be hair-raising.
Excellent, ive seen photos of this in various boat magazines but just stumbled across the actual footage, definatley a case of the boat can handle it but can the crew all involved done superb job, well done those men
A really nice educational video on how boats react to waves. Now I understand why heaving to has always historically been an effective sailing vessel tactic, you can see that if he charges head on to the waves the keel slams hard against the water and rattles the whole thing, while taking a heaving-to angle to the wave makes the boat roll off them smoothly. Seeing how stable that boat was, I think the commander was just having fun, it's educational because you can see how the boat takes different angles.
Wow..seriouse impression on me. What a stunning job..well done to the very professional crew (I won’t mind going to see with this crew that can handle this type of ruff sea :). Very nice boat indeed..well build and very balanced. I appreciate this video.
Great job by the operator of the Pilot boat did a remarkable job of not plowing the bow under when dropping off the top of waves. Excellent control of speed enough to get over waves then pull back to keep from sticking the bow in the through. He rarely missed any about as good as anyone could do
LOL when I saw Irish Sea in the more info I laughed. That sea will spank the crap out of you any day of the week and I sailed it every day 20 years ago. Thanks for posting true vid of this sea and what it can throw at you.
What a vessel, in 47 years at sea I've seen pilot vessels in very heavy seas many times, she is a credit to her builders and the person that was handling her in those conditions.Difficult to estimate the wave height from the video but 8 metres could be an over estimate
People are working hard to support their family and live with dignity. GOD bless you ALL and everyone who make an effort to leave their homes every morning to earn a happy living for their families. GOD BLESS
Wow, rockin'n'rollin' ! Love the music, however MIssion impossible describes it better! I worked on a ship for 5 yrs and I loved ups and downs, as big as this! People shouting out at the same time Yippppppppi, like on a rollercoaster! :) Reminds me of the South-China Sea....Love the video!
this was a demo for boat builder. a good one too. as a boat operator myself I see it was a relatively benign event. boat under control at all times. not taking green water over the bow really. many pilot boats transit rough seas close to shore before reaching calmer seas beyond. where the ships are running. good advertisement.
I marvel on same thing too.. today I just had a rough boat ride, huge waves for only 15 minutes but I already feared being capsized. I can't imagine what the guys in this video is experiencing inside the boat.. wow, it must be totally unbelievable.
Good Lord. I´m a sailor since 1984 and I doubt if I would dare to be present in such a trial. Can´t they test the boat in a big pool with wave machines??? Ok, I´m not being serious. My deepest respect to those seamen!!!!!
I assume that for the crew," it was another day under the sun!" I would be shitless dead afraid crying to be home. At first I couldn´t understand wy they were going out to sea, until the turning manouver. Impressive footage.
These are some GREAT built boats- will NEVER let you sink if all openings are sealed and they have a distress system JUST in case it does not recover from right side up (highly unlikely) but things do happen. These boats have FULL scuba equipment onboard to keep the crew alive in extreme cases until help arrives if needed?
@claysurfer78 All this of course depends on which of the Great Lakes your talking about. for instance on Lake Erie it is not the size of the waves rather its the frequency of them. Very violent storms. Lake Erie is shallow when compared to other lakes, only about 210ft deep. The " Big Lake they call Gitche Gumee", now thats a different story. Until you actually experience horrible storms on these lakes Its difficult to understand. After seven years of service on Lake Erie, I have great respect
Un par de veces me paso lo mismo cuando estaba en la mar trabajando, es alucinante ver que las olas levanten tu embarcación como un pedaso de madera, y mucho peor es aún cuando estás con pesca
Remarkable footage and thanks for sharing. Would be nice if it were reposted without the music or dubbed in sound effects; in my opinion, it takes away from the vid. Thanks.
I can't understand how anything can be built to withstand such a constant and vicious pounding. How heavy equipment (engines, generators, driveshafts, props) can remain secured in place in something bouyant enough to still float in such brutal conditions is beyond me.
This boat is build to take on any seas... as long as the skipper keeps the nose into the waves the worst that can happen is someone getting sea sick... nevertheless it takes a lot of courage and skill to be out there in this weather..
Yes we were. The main problem was the constant ear shattering noise of the engines, the fumes, and in those days everybody smoked except me, now that was hell on earth up to four men in that tiny cabin all smoking.
and93hil Agreed. Force 8. Bad enough! People fool themselves. A big swell does not mean a storm, which is wind force. Often there is a big swell from a storm 3 days ago 500 miles away. Couple this to a local Force 8 wind and a good soundtrack and wow, we have Force 10. It's also two videos - one out at sea and the other in shelving water entering a port or river. But it's a well-filmed promotional video. Hope they sell plenty!

This makes us appreciate just how brave these men are when they set out to save our lives! Bless you all
The boat is a piece of art.
The guy handling it has balls of steel and certainly knows how to handle his precious girl.
Hat off for the pilot
It's making what would normally be terrifying look like an awesome thrill ride!!! Great job to the crew and builders of that awesome vessel!!!
As an ex Seaman I have to say that wheel man knows his stuff. Fantastic boat handling skills.
Not something most of us ever get to see this close up. Great video. Thanks for sharing. Looks like an awesome little boat too.
I proud of you Mr. Ship driver, you're really brave 🤗🤗🤗

Excellent Seamanship and a Dependable vessel
Excellent, ive seen photos of this in various boat magazines but just stumbled across the actual footage, definatley a case of the boat can handle it but can the crew
all involved done superb job,
well done those men
Nice job good testing. You got to keep your eye on the waves and give power at the right time.Lovely boats.
He did that as good as it can be done believe me.
When you have faith in the boat you built . What better way to prove It.
Knowing how to drive and when to and when not to add power is critical. This is definitely a pro.
hats of for the people working on these boats and the companies who built them. Looks like they are training going back and forth.

I think the commander shit in his/her pants/pantyhose a couple of times.

Fantastic. It was well built to take on those rough waves. Credit to boat builder n those who handled it thru those rough waves. Fr lady in malaysia
The pilot of this boat really knows how to handle the worst sea I have ever seen!
I marvel on same thing too.. today I just had a rough boat ride, huge waves for only 15 minutes but I already feared being capsized. I can't imagine what the guys in this video is experiencing inside the boat.. wow, it must be totally unbelievable.
Epic boat handling skills!!
Of course you mean the boat. I wouldn´t trust a roller coaster more than that beauty
awsome footage...brave men + women who drive these vessels...
These guys do a dangerous job at times - hope they stay safe.
Must be like a crazy fairground ride. Respect to all at sea.

Extraordinary and compelling!
I actually enjoyed the music with it! Quite amusing.

Amazing skipper, great throttle control. Respect.
Pilot boat skippers and crew = Hardcore
What about the pilots? They have to transfer to a ship.
Do you hear that clanking sound? These guys giant brass balls!
Un par de veces me paso lo mismo cuando estaba en la mar trabajando, es alucinante ver que las olas levanten tu embarcación como un pedaso de madera, y mucho peor es aún cuando estás con pesca

Superb boat, & superb handling skills by the skipper.

CHULADA DE VIDEO... FELICIDADES Y GRACIAS DIOSITO POR ESTAS MARAVILLAS COLOSALES MARINAS....
salute to the men who man these ships at the sea
very good boat, e an excelent captain, doing right things at the right time,
What would be impressive would be to see the pilot attempting to board a ship in these conditions. :)
Pretty amazing!🌊🌊
These guys are great sailors!!
Great boat,super skipper,well done lads.

In the wise words of Captain Jack Sparrow.... "I want one of those."
Such a badass job!
One big sea rolling there, good sea boat.
Never thought I'd see a boat out for a surf...
Looks like it just playing along with the waves.
Wonder how sailing would turn out.

That honestly looks fun
No Ferries today, but the Pilot might take you surfing in his boat.
Amazing!
If I did this for a job I think I'd say no to breakfast. It would end up in your lap everytime.
Now I'm good and seasick... LOL.... Love the music could listen to it all day
Testing conditions, but somehow I got the feeling that someone was having fun.
short fetch, beaufort 10 with 300 mile fetch will make 50 ft seas, but yes they were having fun in a seakindly hull which'd proberly self right
Yes we were. The main problem was the constant ear shattering noise of the engines, the fumes, and in those days everybody smoked except me, now that was hell on earth up to four men in that tiny cabin all smoking.

How can a boat that small contain a captain's balls that big?!?!?!
@jazzy6307 You kidding ? It's Chariots of Fire. Classic tune !!!!!
