The Bathurst caribou herd has suffered a dramatic decline in numbers from a high of roughly 470,000 in the mid-1980s to a low of about 6,240 today.

I'm pretty sure the Selkirk Herd has gone locally extinct from what habitat they had remaining in Washington and Idaho. It's disappointing.
Ironically, much of that paper is flushed down toilets.
A lot of habitat loss is for avoidable and unnecessary reasons
