Maybe the real vagabond knight were the friends we slew along the way.
I know a lot of people prefer samurai or confessor, the vagabond was always my favorite because it was so mysterious in a way.
Battle-torn and comitted, relentless and fading
Some guy commented something along the line of, "I like the vagabond because of the lack of backstory. you're a nobody who wants to prove their capabilities."
I wish the Vagabond came with the twin curved swords the class had in DS3. I would've started as one if it did.
He was a knight before. He was noble. He had a king.@@Brute_Studios
Vagabond is one of the best optimized starts for Pure Strength Builds. It’s top tier.
I always start with a tank class. You can afford to speck into other areas without a risk. It's nice to have the extra armor and shield to start
Agreed, I'll take the hit to early game damage for the defense. That one extra chance at a sip is all it takes for a LOT of these boss fights.
>Be descendant of Tarnished
>Live a pretty normal life
>Called back to Lands Between
>Need a weapon and ancestral armor
>Realize you chucked dad's goofy LARP costume in the back of the hall closet like 8 years ago
>FML
The knight set also seems somewhat similar to the fingerprint set as well as the eccentric set. It also has similarities with Godfrey’s armor, as color scheme is similar and the knight set has a V with an I through it on the front, similar to the shape on the front of Godfrey’s armor. My theory is that maybe there were a bunch of “knights of the roundtable” that wore this armor when Godfrey became Godfrey and that some of the tarnished we see in the game are the remnants.
Gurranq and the beast cleargy of Farum Azula would be cool.
Fun fact: if you look closly at the clawmark seal, you can spot a *Twinbird* design that shows up in Farum Azula architecture
It makes sense that the beastmen would be associated with the twin bird. Gurranq has the rune of death. I wonder if gurranq had like a brother, who was the shadow of the gloam eyed queen? Maybe he stole his brothers seal
@@nickytheanimal2413 in the files, Seroshes model mesh that is used in Hoarah Loux's second phase cutscene is called "Marikesu" guess that's as close as we will ever get...
Another fun fact: Godfrey is immune to max health reduction from Destined death in hs first phase, only after tearing off Serosh does it affect him
The knight set becomes so much better with the existence of the fingerprint set. Seeing how the standard of a Tarnished knight became corrupted by his quest for the throne
The "thick fabrics" is a gambeson. It's cloth armor (padded armor in D&D) and is very prominent in history as it's very effective for its cost.
The vagabond is set hits that perfect rugged aesthetic that i love so much, it looks even better without the cape where you can see all the practical stuff they keep around, especially the that backpack thrown over, making you feel like a real adventurer. Awesome set.
Enchanted Knights looked cool in Network test videos so I picked Prisoner to start down that path. Also "mind blown" over the Vagabond and Knight armor catch, awesome work!
Notice that the 'cape' is actually a ships sail. And Boc can convert that cape into a carry pouch that is slung over your shoulder (and allows you to see the travel kit fastened to the armor set's back).
Pick class with starting halberd, buy halberd from wandering merchant: double halberds !!
Also I never even noticed the similarities between the knight set and the vagabond set, good eyes
I have another theory that the vagabond knight is somehow connected to the knights of miquella, in that the rope on the helmet seems both functional as in holding the helmet together as well as having a similar flower crown design. That just a theory a gamer theory,
All the tarnished were soldiers or otherwise servants of Godfrey who were stripped of their grace by Marika and banished from the lands between to all the other lands. Then they clearly went their separate ways, got involved various conflicts (like Godfrey's battles in the badlands) or whatever, and then died, and now they've been called back. So the vagabond is a tarnished who became a wandering knight somewhere.
Haven't seen your videos for a while I see you are still doing amazing work.,keep up the good work mate
Having the angle of his sword be not perfectly perpendicular with the hilt is a nice touch on the thumbnail
I completely agree with this theory, it feels like a lot of the starting gear actually comes with story implications. The roleplay of this game is unlike any other fromsoft game
I hope th dlc adds more classic knight sets like dark souls 3, we really needed more in the game
It’s shocking how some of the classes like astrologer is so key to the lore but then you get prisoner who were pooped stained pants and berserk reference helmet
Or bandit... It's just a dude with a knife
After telling the whole story, I feel like playing the game again!
I think I'll take the prisoner again to feel the nostalgia vibe again!
once again an excellent video! 👏
Perhaps I'm just missing something that should be obvious, but is there any rhyme or reason to who revives in the Lands Between and who doesn't? Why does it even matter if the Recusants kill Tarnished if Tarnished just revive? Or, say, when Irina dies outside Castle Morne; how does Edgar know she won't just respawn?
Only Tarnished who see grace revive. Most Tarnished we meet have long had grace abandon them for a second time.
@@square-table-gaming So then how come enemies revive? I mean isn't the whole thing that like most of the denizens of the Lands Between are the way they are because they've died and been reborn so many times?
@@reritheguy6756 Enemies reviving is strictly a gameplay mechanic. The idea of no one in the Lands Between "dying" is not because they are physically revived by grace in the same way our Tarnished is. People in the Lands Between can't die due to age as far as we can tell, but they can die to violence. After they are killed their bodies are laid to rest at minor erdtrees or through erdtree burial and their essence is returned to the Erdtree where they will someday be revived. Those that aren't fed to the roots of the tree become those who live in death. It's why Demi-Gods don't revive.
@@square-table-gaming Ah, I see, thank you.
I remember reading somewhere tbag the different endings of Elden Ring actually cater to the different starting classes. Not everyone has and ending. Because not everyone completes their journey in that sort of completion manner. Some endings are more obvious than others, but it struck me as intresting that tbe ending they linked the Vagabond to was the Ranni ending, something about searching.for a master. Interesting thoughts
I always start as the wretch.
Ain't nothin' wrong with a solid 10 in every stat and a big stick.
My second character is a vagabond and I love him my first starting class was a Samurai that I ended up turning into a int Dex build with Moonveil and sorceries cause it made me feel like an anime protagonist 😂
TBF, Vagabond could literally be anyone. Not just a traditional “knight”. Anyone can be a Knight because that’s only a status. Kings and Queens could “Knight” anyone they want. Fighters, Mages, anyone.
I Started With The Warrior. I Love Dual Weapons
I like the vagabond but personally started as a Samurai
The color of the fabric for the knight and vagabond knight are both blue, blue being associated with magic. The motifs and embossing on the two sets also match those found on armor and weapons associated with the Cuckoo Knights.
This is most apparent when comparing the embossing of the trim outlining the Cuckoo Knight's shield to the embossing on the front of the Knight's chest armor. To add onto this, the hue of the shield's gold trimming is almost identical (if not the exact same), something that's particularly notable in Elden Ring.
At the very minimum, they are extremely similar. As far as I'm aware, however, the designs they share are found nowhere else in the Lands Between.
I firmly believe both the Vagabond Knight and the standard Knight sets *are Cuckoo* in origin. The visual evidence certainly suggests that much.
Given that the Cuckoo Knights are not more than paid mercenaries, it'd make sense they'd incorporated those who became Tarnished into their ranks at some point before their exile from the Lands Between.
That is really cool and unexpected lore. Just kind of thought the Vagabond class were just simple knights. I mean that’s what they are, but didn’t know we’re playing as the decedent instead of the original owner.
I love listening to ur voice it helps me sleep and i also love elden ring lore (could u maybe try and make a lore video on the prisoner startong class)
I haven't found enough to cover a whole video yet but we'll see!
Bro. 💯 if I need to drift off and dream of DnD I just put square table videos on loop.
@@jamesclark5209 our lore compilations are perfect for this ;)
@@square-table-gaming i used one of those to fall asleep they Are so relaxing
Best starter class
My favourite class as well!
I started as a vagabond for no real reason, but now I'm very happy I chose it. 😅
Love the attention FromSoft gave even to these starting classes. I have yet to start a game with the vagabond, along with the confessor. I chose the bandit and wretch above it, of all things. :p Still got to appreciate the lore as well as the little details the game hints at.
Criminally unappreciated content
So is it also possible for the vagabond to be just a knight of Godfrey, and was separated during the long march and became the Vagabond?
May you do astronomer next I think there are a lot of correlations to be made with the information available.
Also may you do a vid on the primevil current. Ive cultivated a theory that it is a lovecraftian like being, a god even, like the elden beast and glimpsing it or even a small aspect of it is what causes sorcerrers to go mad.
I almost always go Barbarian since I like strength builds with little to no armor
I started my first play-through as a Vagabond but now if I know I’m playing a melee class, I pick Hero. I only play Vagabond if I have no intention of farming items.
Mindblown that both armors are simmilar
Imagine if Miyazaki did a EU old republic star wars game over 100,000 of lore depth stakes philosophy world building ect
I'm a Wretch guy. But vagabond is my #2 choice for starting class.
Greetings from the Carrot-Man 👋🥕
My liege
Create a video about the theory Elden ring is a prequel to dark souls?
.......Well, for that to happen it would mean that either Ranni's ending, or Dung Eaters ending are the "canon" ending for ER.
It would have to be fun speculation since Miyazaki has shot down the connection between dark souls and Elden ring
Yeah man a speculation video would be awesome
Any thoughts on why the Vagabond Set is available for purchase so late in the game from an easy-to-miss merchant?
I would assume it was picked off of a corpse, but it's likely just to make it possible to own every piece of armor if you don't start as a vagabond.
The western Ronin
Will there be more starting classes lore videos? Would be especially cool if you make one about the Prisoner.
Chose it 'cause an old TES habit 😏 But now I'm having fun elaborating her story more - would probably write some fanfis=ction one day... Maybe i'd get more insights if you make a video 😊😊
I've looked into the prisoner and there isn't much but I'm going to dig as much as I can for all the starting classes
your voice sounds like someone who reads creepy pasta audio books
Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
it’s something you should start doing! Maybe a different channel or a sub of this one but you would be perfect for it
@@square-table-gaming good thing, makes it good context to watch while trying to sleep
Vagabond was mt 1st soulsgame class and I'm almost finished w/ elden ring (approaching maliketh) but my game character file crashed lol
I'm so sorry
I was no knight. Samurai Ronin all the way!
Knight Errant for life.
I always choose knight cause it objectively best for min maxing nearly any build for meta pvp. Cool lore though.
Is was a Wretch
Why does the art depict the vagabond knight with a bastard sword
But it doesnt start with a bastard sword
It does not. If you look closely at the hilt you can see this is the standard longsword. The bastard sword is much longer and has different detailing
@@square-table-gaming oh
I wasnt talking about the thumbnail but even still
yeah it does have a longsword
I just undid a memory I somehow made up
I guess I willed it into my brain because i wanted something that fit my vagabond knight only run going into ng+
@@wavierdigif you still haven't decided on a weapon I think the claymore goes good with the vagabond armor. The claymore has kind of a worn and dirty look to it plus a great moveset.
@@rotwotimes_jones every time that uncharged heavy thrust roll catches someone panic dodging away from my light attack
I cum uncontrollably
I still just like the design of the bastard sword over it
Not that it matters because ive already deleted that playthrough
im literally running out of character slots
@@rotwotimes_jones i ran out of character slots and have already deleted the vagabond
And altho i agree there is nothing more sexually thrilling than that light into heavy rollcatch
I just prefer the bastard swords design
And its wide sweeping attacks are more important than the single target thrust to me personally
Maleina is hot.
Ngl this was a little lack luster.
Anything in particular you were looking for?
You've finally asked me!!!!! Dear God, open the heavens upon me. Talk about the mf'ing bats!!!!!!!!!
@@user-ss4qr3qg9e we did in our video about giant monsters of the lands between
That and maybe make an episode on how the souls borne genre has progressed into elden ring, maybe how elden ring had effected you personally
