    So you’ve stumbled across our Streetboards and thought it looks familiar?
    “That’s just a Snakeboard! “.
    Well here we are going to break down the exact differences between a Snakeboard and a Streetboard, and the answer might surprise you!
    Snakeboard, the original Streetboard!
    So, the difference between a Snakeboard and a Streetboard is….nothing. Much like many other generic trademarks, Snakeboard was the original brand name that kicked off the sport of Streetboarding.
    Much like Rollerblade became the go to name for inline skates, Snakeboard was the name of the original company that was founded by the inventors of the unique board; James Fisher, Simon King and Oliver Macleod Smith in 1989.
    A Short History of Snakeboard
    Wanting to create a board that would more closely represent the feeling of surfing and snowboarding, they chopped an old roller skate in half and attached it to two wooden footplates with plumbing pipe in the centre.
    This crude board would then birth the company Snakeboard, which through various licensing agreements, sold tens of thousands worldwide.
    Snakeboarding was what the sport was called during the early nineties, as the company owned a patent on the board design.
    Snakeboarding to Streetboarding
    As the sport grew, so did the needs of the riders and the interest from outside brands. Anderson USA became one of them, and under license produced their own Streetboards.
    One of the first t-shirts to feature the new found name for the sport was the legendary TEAM CHEeSE “Streetboarding Creeps” design created by renowned Streetboard artist Mark Campbell.
    Snakeboard Falls
    Snakeboard was eventually bought by a toy manufacturer, who showed no interest in keeping the sport of streetboarding going.
    This left it up to the children of snakeboarding to forge their own path and keep the sport alive through organising contests, running magazines and eventually starting their own board companies. It is from that family of riders that Dragan boards, along with other respected brands, have been born. To carry on riding the boards we love, and helping everyone, whether new or seasoned pro, to ride better.

    I had a sydewynder back in the 90s and am currently in the works to get one for my son. They're like gold dust, though.. so much fun going down hills on one of these. I used to sit on one foot part and then "drive" the board like a car. I legit don't understand why they're not more popular..

    I actually broke out my old .... "skate board"?? "street board"?? earlier this week. My daughter JUST learnt to ride without her stabilisers and me being fat and close to my 40s now, I needed an easy way to keep up with her..
    I still managed to do it super easy.. Though, I did develop pains I never used to get on the insides of my feet.. I put this down to getting old, or just not as good a technique anymore.
    ... Though, this video is the first time I heard the term "street board"..

    I started in 94ish on the Snakeboard Pro XL with the straps then a year later got the Skinner with Kelly Dean Shamrocks wheels and modified out the dampers to solid threaded rod and custom installed an old Marrow baseless snowboard binding. Just rediscovering the joy after having it sit for over 20 years. I'd always wondered what exactly happened with the Snakeboard USA company, this was a good catch-up!

    Never heard of either, but I'm gonna be ordering a street board from you. I had a long board for a while but gave it away. These seem like a nice lighter option & the wiggle propulsion is appealing. I also had one of those 3 wheel wiggle scooters but was too heavy & difficult. Can't wait to get my cruiser! 👍

    I’ve owned almost all snake boards and a street board. Owned the bowser,skinner,stiffy,streetboard and the original snake board. My absolute favorite was the stiffy. The longer bar let you get bigger speed and was more stable. The suspension made all the difference between that and streetboard. I absolutely hated the rough ride of the streetboard. It killed any speed you built up as soon as you hit any kind of imperfections in any pavement. The streetboard was pointless outside of a skatepark. I enjoyed every minute I rode the stiffy. Best board ever made IMO

      Have you tried the Cruiser?

    • @filmnoirprotagonist1436
      @filmnoirprotagonist1436 2 года назад +1

      Are you sure the issue you had with the streetboard wasn't the hardness of the wheels? The shock absorbers in 90's snakeboards were solid plastic. Some of them came with 90a durometer wheels (medium hardness). 1970's style skateboard wheels with hardness ratings between around 78a to 90a are often called cruiser board wheels today. Wheels with those sort of hardness ratings and a modern shape are sold as filmer wheels.

The Dragan team is also on there to answer any questions about the new style of boards, since a lot has changed from the stiffy days. Glad to have you back!

      Wont feel the same... One thing I will say is that if you get a snake board of any decent calibre the suspension will give way within days because they're all 20 years old now... Look on ebay and set a up a notification... They do crop up quite often....

    Could you explain what are the differences between the snakeboard and the streetboard dragan cruiser in terms of riding experience?
    I am especially interested in a comparison between the snakeboard Ashley Pro and the dragan cruiser as they both have wooden plates an stiff bars.

    • @DraganBoards
      @DraganBoards  Год назад +2

      Thanks for the question. It's kind of hard to give an accurate comparison because those snakeboard models are not in production anymore and were also considered the freestyle boards of their time. Our cruiser is going to feel a lot more stable with almost no flex. They are also designed for toe hooks and not a full binding system, so having the bar flex to generate extra speed would not be beneficial. The movements however are the same, and are going to feel as similar or as different as your choice in wheels. The Dragan cruisers come with large soft wheels that will take away some of the bumps that the more heavyweight shock absorbers would have on the older snakeboard models.

    Do snakeboards have bushings and tilting suspension that allows the rider to rock the foot pads from your to heel? Do modern pivot boards do away with this more of articulation for some reason?

    • @DraganBoards
      @DraganBoards  2 года назад +3

      Snakeboards do not have bushings surrounding the kingpin like a skateboard. They typically have larger shock pads than Streetboards making them higher off the ground and in our opinion, less stable. The Snakeboard used in this video had a broken shock pad on both footplates so it looks like there is extra maneuverability in the heel and toe areas. We can only speak for our own boards, but the main reason we don’t currently use this level of articulation is because the modern boards are much more stable at high speeds and generally handle performing tricks a lot easier because of this. R&D is always ongoing and perhaps one day a happy medium between the two can be found.

    • @dannybruff
      @dannybruff 2 года назад +1

      I prefer the give in the suspension myself... And the bar for that matter... The modern streetboard looks really rigid... When I Snakeboard I tend to lift my heel up and the twist in the bar allows more flexibility in the ankles... I'm saying this because I bought some suspension replacement for my stiffy and they are made of nylon and they have no give in them and you can 100-percent tell the difference between hard trucks and trucks with some give, which modern Street boards don't look like they have. I'd quite like to try a street board but I don't want to buy one because I don't think I would like it... Your feet look like they are in line with the trucks too which is anothe variant that you will notice... Edit... I can now make my own with PU rubber rod...

      @@dannybruffyou can replace stiffy supressins with soft skateboard bushings. I can't remember how this done proper. Probably sk8board bushings was merged with screw, nut, and 2 washers...

      You can do all the same tricks! However, modern freestyle Streetboards, like the Dragan Team Board, are going to have more specialized features to make tricks easier to perform and help you ride better. Longer nose and tail, wider bar, send it slick, NTG trucks with blunt plates and even a choice of stance.

    Streetboard is not a good name for the infringe boards, because it was already in use by skateboarders who rode street instead of tricks/parks using regular skateboards and longboards. I've owned abot four Snakeboards and one Streetboard, favorite Snake was the Stiffy, current board is the Dimension AS-1 Streetboard, getting a bit long in the tooth, but built like a tank.

      We definitely don’t speak on behalf of any Grosso branded products, but to us, they fall under the Streetboarding family umbrella. What is the difference between a your board and a surfskate?

    • @DraganBoards
      @DraganBoards  Год назад +2

      Thanks for the question! Biggest difference is that each foot controls two wheels independently from the other foot. This enables you to gain speed quicker without ever taking your feet off the board. There is no kick & push involved. Another big difference is that you can add full bindings to our freestyle boards and mix surf style movements with snowboard style tricks.

    • @danielreitermusic

      I've ridden surfskates and have a couple dragan boards. The dragan board has a much steeper learning curve but is more rewarding. You can pump waaay faster than a surfskate, and do sliding 180s, etc.. The board is symmetric unlike a surfskate and can also turn a lot sharper.

    the term snakeboard is better, typing streetboard just pulls up skateboarding videos. I wouldnt try to fight the search algorithm, if people are going to take notice youll probably have to name it something that doesnt lead you to regular skateboards.
