I Work at a waste water plant, we had issues with out belt tracking today and maintenance isn’t here on the weekends, this video helped me and my lead operator understand belt tracking and tension for our conveyer system. Although we have much bigger belts, we were able to adjust our tracking successfully. Thank you for this educational video!
Worked at a large candy plant that had tons of conveyors. Some of the lines in one room had 8 conveyors. Candy would be deposited on short belt then a bottomer belt to coat top of candy, on another belt to conveyor then to a short cooling tunnel belt thru a second coating belt then thru an $5,000 silicone coated 42" wide over 125'cooling tunnel conveyor that had air or a micro switch to automatically track conveyor belt. They would purchase several hundred roll of 48" wide lagging to glue onto drive rollers to prevent belts from slipping. Cut that up to line the drawers of my tool chest & tool cart to prevent tools from moving around. Ten Newest conveyor that only transported empty boxes or shipping cartoons had 1/3 HP 480 Volt three phase motors built into 4" diameter by 18 or 24" wide drive rollers.
The video I didn't knew I need, before I saw it! ♥ I can't stop thinking about what type of lightweight conveyor belt one should construct on the Moon for transporting excavated moon rocks and dust, while trying to reach Moon's Crust (to mine different minerals). You want conveyor belt and construction to not take too much of space and weight, as all the equipment you can lift to the outer space is limited!
I've spent hours doing this trying to get it perfect. One thing I've learned, is that the adjustments respond very differently when the belt is under a load.
Conveyors very seldom just start tracking off on thier own. Most often it is an outside reason for the problem. Improper loading, buildup on tailpulley, return/troughing roller(s) not turning, belt traveling over buildup on return side, seized trainer. List goes on. Inspect conveyor head to tail to find the reason before doing any adjustments.
Also, seized bearings in the snub rollers or the end pulleys can also affect the tracking of the belt. As said, tracking is a very tedious and time consuming process
There is no mention of it in this video, but at least one of the rollers must have been crowned (or conical-cylindrical-conical). Otherwise tracking will not work in this conveyor, with this belt. Probably the drive roller is crowned which makes sense (and is usually done) since belt tension is highest where the loaded belt enters the drive roller.
did you crown the drive pulley for tracking? you should vulcanize the belt rather than metal lace the lacing will over time ruin the pulleys especially aluminum...lastly your snub roll should move vertically for belt take up
Some conveyors don't have snub rollers. Tracking with the tail pulley (tensioner) is okay, but instead of increasing tension to make the belt go one way, it's better to decrease tension on the side you want the belt to track to.
Why did you very long procedure to made belt tension,. before you made tension and adjustment the bolts let you know how much a gap the belt in roller before measurement a side by side the tension bolt , if you know gap it is easy to adjust the tension bolt fit of roller to fell stretching the belts'
the snub roll is completely useless unless you use it as a take up for belt stretch over time it is not a tracking pulley ever! the tail pulley is always the tracking pulley and should be minimal adjustment but your drive pulley needs to be crowned for sure
incorrect. tracking on your snubbing rollers is the primary method of tracking. the tension carriage should only be for tensioning and then minor adjustments in belt fluctuations if you haven't got a straight belt say. The guy just tracking on the tension end will invariably just stretch the belt and then eventually just cause seizing of the drive or premature degradation of the belt. Also tension checking may be fine with the method advised on small belts but any long / wide or heavy belts the check should be distance of return strand of belt to frame over return roller and then distance check of 1/2 way between both return idler sets. The distance sag should deviance should be 2% of the belt idler to idler distance i.e. 2m idler return set means sag estimate should be 40mm. small belts you can get away with this rough way of tracking but on longer belts you will cause major issues. @@pacee21 a snub pulley is only used to create greater wrap around either the drive or tail pulley a snub it is never used for alignment its also normally hard to access. alignment is only made possible with a pulley that is crowned and has alignment bolts. Been doing this for 35 years
That belts too loose. His guide to tensioning is a joke. If you can get your hand under its all good????? Never heard that in my life and its quite frankly ridiculous. Belts have a optimal tension. Each belt is different but you do it the same way. First mark out 2 points for example 1 meter apart down the centre of the length of the belt. Then apply tension and measure the marks until they measure the set optimal tension. Depending on length, width and material type and application most belt require a extra 25mm of stretch for the small belts going upto metres of stretch in these big mining belts. All this info should be available on the belt manufacturer website. Also Don't get me started on how you tracked that thing. Trust me people he did what we all do ( I'm a belt fitter of 15 yrs) he just fiddled and farted about until it was good. Joking aside perfect central on all rollers tracking is seldom achieved and when it us its by fluke. Too many variants, cut of belt, how straight it the machine bed etc could go on my point is when taking a belt find the point where it naturally seems to stay( it'll never be smack bang in the centre) if you twiddle to much you'll be there forever.
The say in school to not use the tail pulley takeup but in real life you have to use what you got. Some conveyors have very few options. Stretching the belt. Doubtfull.
Legend has it, that this guy is still tracking that belt!!!
With the takeup roller.

Mind if I pick your brain on a problem I am having about belt tracking?

Non V guided belts tend to wander quite a bit even under tension

Good work 👍
Obrigado amigo, ajudou muito em várias dúvidas que tinha sobre alinhamento de esteiras fixas.
Nice information. Add the bouth side steel Rool. Adjust esay
hello bro, can I ask for a detailed drawing of the conveyor..............?
Good, we will learn it from you.我们会向你们学习看齐的
Come teach 30 years experienced techs this please!!!! 🤣 🤣 🤣
It was helpful, but you probably didn't need to show us every single 1/4" adjustment.
Thank you 😅😅😅😅
Thing was like 3" off and he's making 1/4" adjustments, lol.
Good job

Never track with tensenor. You warp the belt. You just need to track with snub.

Any conveyor maintenance service in L. A CA. Area???
Espectacular
& how we will adjust the belt alignment if it has to run in both (reverse & forward) directions
Thank you sir
Hello! Does anyone know what material the conveyor belt is made of? Thanks!
Kate R. Lools like a pvc type belt
PTFE fiberglass
Kate R. Hard rubber
Top cover meterial is PVK.
definitely PVC smooth one side
I have one that’s slipping under weight
What should be learned as well.

That might be the worst display of tensioning and tracking a belt I've ever seen. Never adjust your end pulleys before the snubber or return rollers

This is not a good design for a belt conveyor. It has major safety and practicality issues.

Do not use your take up pulley to track you will stretch one side of the belt and make it a nightmare to track down the line
