  • Scenic Relaxation Film about Indonesia - Indonesia is located on the islands of the Malay Archipelago and the western part of the island of New Guinea in Southeast Asia. Indonesia is the largest island state in the world. The country consists of at least 17,508 islands, of which about 6,000 are inhabited. With an area of 1,919,440 km², Indonesia ranks 14th in area among the countries of the world and first among the countries of Southeast Asia. In the north, Indonesia borders on Malaysia, Singapore, India and the Philippines. To the east, Indonesia shares a border with Papua New Guinea. In the south, Indonesia borders on Australia and East Timur. The largest islands of Indonesia are Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi and Kalimantan. The hinterland of all the major islands is mountainous. Java and Sumatra are characterized by linear continuous mountain ranges along almost the entire length of the island. Sulawesi and the Indonesian territories of Kalimantan and New Guinea are characterized by more complex configurations of mountain systems. The highest peak in Indonesia, Mount Punchak Jaya, its height is 4884 meters, located in the western part of the island of New Guinea. The largest flat areas are located on the island of Kalimantan.
According to the results of the national census conducted in 2020, the population of Indonesia was 270,203,917 people. Indonesia is thus the most populous country in Southeast Asia and the fourth largest in the world in terms of population. The average population density for 2020 is about 141 people per km². At the same time, the population is distributed extremely unevenly: 56.1% of Indonesians live in Java, which makes up less than 7% of the territory. As a result, this island is one of the most densely populated places on the planet, with more than 1,000 people per km². Among the administrative-territorial units, the highest population density is registered in the Special Capital District - 15,947 people per km². The lowest population density is registered in the province of North Kalimantan - less than 8 people per km². To ensure a more even distribution of the population throughout the country, the Indonesian authorities have been implementing a large-scale transmigration program since the 1950s. By relocating the inhabitants of the densely populated areas of Java, Madura, Bali to the sparsely populated islands of Kalimantan, New Guinea, and the Moluccas. As part of this program, at least 5.5 million people were resettled by the early 2000s.
Indonesia belongs to the category of agro-industrial countries. In terms of national competitiveness in 2017, it ranked 36th in the world. The economy, with its market nature, is characterized by the active role of the state. It owns about 140 large enterprises in various sectors of the national economy. It also controls prices for a number of goods, including basic foodstuffs and fuels and lubricants. In the volume of GDP, the share of industrial production for 2015 is 42.8%, services 43.6%, agriculture 13.6%. At the same time, 13.2% of the working population is employed in industry, 38.9% in agriculture and 47.9% of the working population in the service sector. The total working-age population is 122.4 million people, the unemployment rate is 5.5%. The population is characterized by significant socio-economic stratification. The wealthiest 10% earn nearly 11 times the income of the poorest 10% of Indonesians. More than 13% of Indonesia's population lives below the poverty line. Corruption is a serious problem in the Indonesian economy. In Indonesia, there is no single minimum wage for the whole country, its calculation is within the competence of the authorities of the provinces and equivalent special districts.
