- Scenic Relaxation Film about Singapore - Singapore is the multinational city-state and global financial center. Singapore is located on 63 islands in Southeast Asia. The largest islands are: Singapore (main island), Ubin, Tekong Besar, Brani, Sentosa, Semakau and Sudong. The area of the country is 733.2 km² as of June 2022. The area of Singapore is gradually increasing due to the land reclamation program. The highest natural point is Bukit Timah Hill at 166 meters. To the north, Singapore borders Malaysia. As of 2020, the majority of the population are Chinese 74.3%, Malays 13.5%, Indians 9%. The remaining 3.2% are made up of completely different small ethnic groups: English, Arabs, Jews, Thais, Armenians and Japanese. As of 2019, the United Nations estimated that there were 2.2 million immigrants living in Singapore, or 37.1% of the country's population.
Singapore is the multi-religious country, with 31.1% of the population practicing Buddhism and 20% non-religious. 18.9% adhere to Christianity, 15.6% Islam, 8.8% Taoism and Chinese beliefs, 5% Hinduism, 0.6% other religions. According to Singapore's constitution, English, Malay, Chinese and Tamil are the official languages. Official multilingualism and the widespread use of other languages reflect the multiracial, multicultural and multiethnic character of Singapore. In total, over 20 languages were spoken in Singapore in 2009.
Singapore is the highly developed country with the market economy and low taxation, in which multinational corporations play an important role. Gross national product per capita is one of the highest in the world, in 2015 it amounted to 85 thousand dollars at purchasing power parity. In the WEF Competitiveness Ranking, Singapore's economy ranked 2nd out of 134 countries in 2018.
According to IMD Business School, Singapore's economy is the most competitive in the world. Singapore is attractive to investors because of its low tax rates. In total, there are 5 taxes in Singapore, of which one is income tax, one is payroll tax. The total tax rate is 27.1%, it ranks 5th in the ranking of the world's tax systems. Only 4 types of imported goods are subject to import taxation: alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, petroleum products and cars.
Singapore is ranked among the East Asian tigers for the rapid jump of the economy to the level of developed countries. The country has developed electronics production, shipbuilding, and the financial services sector. Large-scale research is being carried out in the field of biotechnology.
