The problem is caused by the transfer case's encoder motor contacts which becomes corroded internally. If cycling back and forth through all the four-wheel drive modes while in neutral and stationary does not work after multiple times then your encoder motor should be replaced which is attached to your transfer case. The encoder motor costs up to approximately $150. It is not extremely difficult to replace yourself if you are mechanically inclined.
@@n3d.studio Did you try cleaning the electrical connector with quick drying electrical connector cleaner and dielectric grease? Also did you use an OBD2 scan tool to clear the computer? You can try disconnecting both battery cables then holding them together for 1 minute to drain the capacitors in the modules to reset them. Maybe changing the transfer case fluid MIGHT help.
@@MisterJ.J. no I found it's abs problem. Probably wheel speed sensors. I have the front ones need to install. So I tested on another h2 of mine. Every so often the abs and tc light will come on on that one. When that happens it does the same thing and will not go into 4wd. When it clears the 4wd engages fine. I just hope it isn't the rear speed sensors because they cost alot.

Nothing worked but 4high. Replaced the transfer case motor. pretty easy. Just have to trust your ramps and jack stands if its not already high enough lol. Anyway now 4 high locked works which did not before but 4lowlocked still doesnt work or light up and rear locker still doesnt work and just flashes till it doesnt. I know nothing about a 4x4s mechanics so got to learn some more...
Update. Got the new dash switches to try since it's cheap. The entire low and lock system works now. Yeah! I didn't even have to take the entire dash off. Just removed the 2 main hex screws and tilted it back. Used some panel prying tools to release the switches from the dash.

well I tried replacing the actuator, now it says service 4wd, it didn't before but I just bought this H2 so I don't know the history on it. I suspect it must be the transfer case then.
a little more checking, so I have abs light on, from what I found in another video it could be a bad speed sensor at the front and that will prevent any of the 4wd from working for safety. So all of them just flash yellow and then go off even 4 high open. should stay on. traction control button doesn't do anything either. only thing that works is tow/haul. so I think I'll check those sensors first before I look into getting transfer case replaced. I tried my code reader but it didn't pull up anything for speed sensors but maybe it doesn't read abs. the abs light is on. One other thing it could be is the transfer case control module (tccm) up under steering wheel. Really hard diagnosing source of problem. So many things it could be. I think I may replace the module next. Supposed to have it programed too.
You mean the light keeps blinking?? And easy way to tell if there was a change is to put it in drive and go forward slow . A quick turn off or a disconnect of the battery should reset everything and try again ..

@@dailydrivenH2 something in the front left i think broke because the hummer jumped to the left coming out of 4 hi lock, was like 2 inches of snow on ground up 11% grade

En Los años 2008 y 2009 se cambiaron muchas partes que no eran iguales en años anteriores (2003 a 2007) el mio es del 2004 . Si Lo que escuchas son las puertas vete a alguien que trate de ajustarlas una a la vez y eso debe de ayudarte .

Yo no tengo uno . Uno de los problemas que suelen pasar es que el rayador liga el liquido de transmission con el coolant y trae problemas por eso si puedes ponle uni que no sea el que trae de fabrica .

well I tried that but still nothing, I guess it's transfer case then? Just blinks for awhile then goes out same as before but now it says service 4wd.

just picked up another H2, I don't have a message but when pressing 4h or 4l it just blinks for awhile and then stops, but never engages.

I tried out what u say n when I puch the Buttons, there is no clicking sound when I hit the button. The lights do not stay on when do I do now 🤔

You need to be in 4L lock to lock your rear dif.
