Che cast ! Ho assistito in teatro a questa rappresentazione , trasmessa in mondovisione, quando ero ragazzina. Ricordo meraviglioso ! Grazie
È la magnifica versione di Ronconi, altro che quella modesta messinscena vista nel 2023 alla Scala. Non si capisce perché la rai non ne faccia una versione restaurata e la metta in rete come si deve. Uno si deve accontentare di questa pur generosa messa in rete dove si intravede e non si vede. Forse perché il confronto sarebbe schiacciante, trattandosi di uno dei più bei Don Carlo realizzati. Ma in ogni caso Ronconi, uno dei grandi geni del teatro, noto ovunque, è stranamente trascurato...
Obraztsova !!!!!!!
Nesterenko had one of the most opulent bass voices for opera that I have ever heard & seen. In Hamburg in 1991 he was still in superb voice, less so (for him) a year later. Still it was a rather conventional portrayal as far character revelation was concerned. Christoff still remains my ideal Philip all factors (singing & acting) are concerned, Since Nesterenko, though, I have yet to hear a more awesome sound for Philip’s music.

Una delle più belle esecuzioni del Don Carlo con i migliori interpreti ed il miglior direttore possibili. Peccato che sia il video che l'audio non permettano di apprezzarla quanto merita.

Domingo aveva una gran voce, gran presenza scenica e nei ruoli adatti era un fraseggiatore entusiasmante, ma qui mostra una vocalità disordinata, poi è migliorato, ma la tecnica non è mai stata all'altezza della fama

劇中罕見地不以男、女高音為重心，六個主角的份量都相當。第一幕男中音羅德利果(Rodrigo)唱出的『我們所敬愛的卡羅』，第三幕男低音菲利波二世(Fillippo II)的『她不曾愛過我』，第三幕次女高音愛波麗(Eboli)的『被詛咒的美貌』，第四幕女高音伊麗莎貝塔(Elisabetta)的『神啊，你知道人世的空虛』等等詠嘆調，以及多首重唱曲、合唱曲，都是優美感人的歌曲。
Bravi a tutti, a dream cast and conductor. My only quibble with this production is the costuming: poor Price is wearing a pie on her head in Act 1, all the principals end up wearing shiney conical garments that make them look like daleks (Dr Who) and the stage design is muddled and dull. But the singing and music is absolutely sublime. So happy you have this recording of it and have shared it with the world.
Think the Fontainebleau scene is important for the motivation of the rest. The Covent Garden Visconti production included it, but saw one performance that omitted it. The Elisabetta cancelled and Gwyneth flew in from Zurich, but when we should have seem the first act, she was in a helicopter from Heathrow.
Thinking of it, I think that was the only time I saw it in 4 acts. Though did have a vinyl recording, Stella.Nicholai, Filipeschi, Gobbi, Christoff. Will have to look up Inquisitor
Seem to remember that when the English National did it there was a choral refrain in the Fontainebleau scene of "how long". Don't hear it here, but the joke at the time was that Andrew Porter had found it it the vaults of the Paris Opera. Certainly the performance was of Wagnerian length
Why is that a joke? He found much of the Fontainebleau scene in a score in the French national library.
Marvellous, simply marvellous! Absolutely fantastic singers and the conductor!

Superb work from Price & Domingo & great to hear Bruson at this time. For beauty of sound & Verdi style he, for me, is THE great Verdi Baritone for the last quarter of the 1900s especially at the time of this production. Many thanks for posting this really fine performance!
Encore adolescent et néophyte de l'art lyrique, j'ai découvert Don Carlo par cette représentation télévisée. Bruson devenait mon baryton verdien préféré de l'époque. Aussi bluffé par les performances vocales de Nestorenko et Obratzova.
En comparaison, le Don Carlo de l'ouverture de la saison Scala 2024 est décevant. Hormis Garance et le Grand Inquisiteur, des voix qui ont passé leur meilleur.

the original french version sung in Italian: a very rare performance. Now this version sung in French performed together with ballet (4 hours long) is available in CD thanks to Maestro Bertrand de Billy

Perchè Domingo non ci lascia questi meravigliosi ricordi della sua arte invece di continuare a cantare, esponendosi al ridicolo , in ruoli non suoi ?
Nessuno vi obbliga a vedere Domingo cantare ruoli da baritono sul palco. Volete che i vostri ricordi di lui che canta nel suo primo tenore siano indisturbati dai suoi lavori successivi? Questo dipende da voi, non da lui. Solo i bambini immaturi si risentono nel vedere i più anziani che continuano a lavorare sul palco.
Infatti. Io su you tube lo ascolto nei suoi anni migliori e nelle opere a lui più congeniali. E rimane aio avviso colui che ancora mi prende più di tutti. La voce non è tutto.
