Available in three trims, the Prime Plus including $895 destination fee is $27,995, the Prime Premium is $29,695, and the Prime Advanced is $33,995.
With 10 months having passed since its U.S. release, Toyota’s Prius Prime plug-in hybrid is proving clearly more popular than the 2012-2015 Prius Plug-in Hybrid it replaced.
Called the “Prime” because it’s the range topper, the part-time EV derived from the hybrid Prius Liftback delivers 25 miles of all-electric driving range, a superlative 54 mpg, and its sales are threatening the perennially leading Chevy Volt.
Priced from $28,000, the Prime is eligible for a $4,500 federal tax credit, and state incentives where available and can seem like a no-brainer next to the Prius-sans-plug. How so? For one, the EPA rates the Prime 2 mpg better than all but the Prius Liftback Eco 2 trim, and its net price can come in couple-few thousand below comparable Prius Liftback trims assuming government kickbacks.

We own a 2017 Prius Prime and it is seriously the best car we have ever had. Fun to drive, and still runs like new!

Toyota cares about what they do . They have pride. Something us carmakers have lost

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that *probably* the only people in the real world that do NOT achieve the EPA-rated 54 MPG (combined) with a PRIME have simply ZERO desire to do so. With-OUT "impeding" my small city's traffic flow, I have FREQUENTLY achieved over 70 MPG (in HYBRID mode... *not* in EV) over the course of 15 to 25 mile trips (with three to four stops along the way while running errands), and generally see 55 to 65 MPG on lengthy road trips... as high as 71 MPG on a trip of some 150 miles.

You never have to plug it in. You can press and hold ev button for few seconds and youll see car going into charging mode. It will display instead of ev auto or ev. It will chatge your battery till 80% and disconnect automatically.. And you back in business 👍

My question is: Does a driver have to plug this car in overnight? Also, what about taking a long trip in this vehicle. Will it still work if you don't plug it in overnight? Thanks

25 miles ev range, fully charged 5.5 hrs by 110v/2.5 hrs by 220v, and over 500 miles range w/ gasoline hybrid, you can manually chose drive by ev or hybrid, or mixed of both by chosen ev auto bottom. Without charging it, it is a regular Prius 53mpg, over 500 miles range per fill up. Somehow it will be cheaper after 4502 fed tax compares to reg Prius, but losing 5th seat and smaller cargo space, but you gain lots tech stuffs that not offered in reg Prius.

I'm waiting for the Hyundai Ionic plug in. My reasons for rejecting the Prius Prime are these: 1) I do not like the large display screen. 2) only 4 seats 3) white accents 4) shorter EV range 5) No rear window wiper

Hard to find the perfect car unless you build it yourself. Agree that the white accents are less than desirable. Large display is an advantage since you don't have to move your head 6" from the monitor to read it. 4 seats? could be an issue if you need 5. Rear wiper, used mine on my 4 previous cars maybe 6 times over 10 years. lastly, resale, Toyota has a history of less depreciation and more reliability than any other vehicle, conventional or hybrid.
I'm sold on the Prius Premium but can't seem to locate one in Florida...No inventory around.
Lastly, If your not comfortable with a vehicle buy what fits you best!
