    I do think these pedals sound beautiful. The simplicity is also fantastic. However, I think the buffer and added control in a Boss GE-7 makes it a superior pedal. I know it’s not as boutique, but it’s such an underrated pedal that should be on everyone’s board.

    I have a board with 8 pedals, and then a separate smaller board with a treble booster, fuzz face, and a tone bender each in a switcher, the switcher is in the EUNA effects loop. This has been a great solution for my setup when I want to employ the fuzz board. It truly does make a difference.

    I can't believe how expensive these pedals are for what may be inside them. EG, the buffer could be just an emitter-follower or an op-amp which could be put together for a couple of quid (including the case/hardware etc). The switches are switching in capacitors/resistors - either of which are pence to buy. If these were £30 quid or so then that would be acceptable.
    I wouldn't spend £300 quid on one of these. Jeez - I could buy another guitar for that money.

      I already build my own buffers. J113 JFET into a PNP. Drives a 50 foot cable. I even make a fancy preamp booster version with high and low cut. The effect loop for the buffer idea has been around a while, I even built some like that. No way I'd pay 300 bucks for such a thing either. 300 bucks buys fancy delays!

    • @stoneysdead689
      @stoneysdead689 Год назад +5

      Are you new to pedals or something bud? This same thing can be said about any pedal- and 300 bucks is not really considered that expensive for a hand-built pedal. Most pedals- even the really high-end pedals- have less than 50 dollars' worth of components in them- and those components are very inexpensive transiters, capacitors, op-amps, etc. that anyone can source. But hey- if you think it's so easy and cheap- build your own. You certainly won't be alone, there are thousands of ppl who do it- all the necessary components are readily available. And if you can honestly make something this good- you can sell them for 300 bucks yourself.

      Hi there, it sounds like you know a thing or two about making pedals. That's fantastic. But not everybody does. And like the guys said, it's just one guy that builds these pedals. So he is doing everything. Coming up with layouts, I know there is a lot out there, but still you have to find what you want and put it together. Then he is building these pedals. Probably gets the circuit board from China and then populates them and wires everything up and tests it. If he doesn't get the boards from somewhere he makes his own, very time consuming. The enclosures probably come pre drilled, labeled and powder coated. If not, he has to paint them and label them. Another time consuming step. AND after that he has to market all his products. Send them to youtubers, make videos etc. If you think about all that, I think 300 is fair for a handmade pedal. For a buffer? That's on somebody else to decide. The cool thing with anything handmade by the owner, a real person gets the money. Oh and nobody forces anybody to buy anything.
      Just my thoughts...

When you go to Wal-Mart or guitar center, you give your money to a real person but this money is not their money. Foremost it's the company's money and the employees get just a small percentage of that money. What I'm trying to say is, go to stores that are locally owned. Don't buy your bread at a supermarket, go to a bakery. At least that's what I'm trying to do. And pay cash. Hope that makes sense.

      It's not just cable length- it's also connections. Every connection is a potential source of signal loss, no matter how well designed every connection causes more impedance. Which can just be thought of as resistance- and each pedal requires 2 connections, input and output- meaning the more pedals, the more impedance. That said- I can run a 15-foot cable with 9 pedals and just barely hear a difference- it's super tiny. But- you can buy a simple buffer for like 17 bucks so- why not? Besides, it gives you a way to have a mounted, dedicated, input and output on your board that are not on a pedal- I like that.

    About having a long pedal chain (say 8 or more) I think that in most cases, even if all pedals are true bypass when OFF, there will always be some pedal ON at any time and this makes the use of a buffer pointless since when a pedal is ON it is not "truely bypassed" and it's buffering the signal by processing it. Or am I wrong?

I really don't know for sure, which is why I'm asking. :)

    • @TheEchelon

    • @stoneysdead689
      @stoneysdead689 Год назад +4

      Here's the thing bud- all the guys who can't afford these are going to tell you there no different than any 20-dollar buffer- which you can get by the way. And all the guys who can afford them and have them- are going to tell you just the opposite. And here's the truth- they're both wrong. It's not as exclusive, special, or good as the guys who have them would have you believe- but it's also not as common and easily made as the nay-sayers want to claim. In reality the question you should be asking is "For a guy like myself, who isn't recording hit albums or having my tone scrutinized under a microscope by music critics- is this level of buffer/over drive/etc. really the best way to spend my money?" And imo the answer to that question is "no." Unless you're worried about that last tenth of a percent of perfect- then you don't need 300 dollar buffers. John Mayer on the other hand- does.

    • @ronchorivera
      @ronchorivera Год назад +1

      Another thing to consider is that a lot of pedals have a buffer built in. I like to make sure the beginning of my chain has a buffer(EHX attack decay for me, but I put wah/fuzz before) and the last pedal in my chain has a buffer(Boss Delay). Everything in between is true bypass. Another good option is to have your 1st pedal be a buffered tuner with the last pedal being a buffered clean boost. There are lots of great ideas.

    • @lc2858
      @lc2858 Год назад +2

      The thing about "paying for more tone" is that it has diminishing returns. Higher priced pedals *can* sound better than their lower priced clones or counterparts, but you're paying more for smaller gains, and even then you're getting into pretty subjective territory. I played a EUNA before I bought one, and I can tell you that it's not just a buffer.
      I have standalone buffers from empress, analogman, and lehle; those are all trying to do something transparent and unheard. The EUNA is replacing the need for a buffer because it can drive long signal chains, but it's adding something else to the guitar sound too, specifically the high end frequencies. The pedal feels more like a "last coat of paint" rather than a necessary pedal. But it is this sort of hi-fi polish to your tone that I really do like.
      I will admit, I think the clean sounds are the more noticeably improved, the gain sounds you really mostly get the benefits of the buffered effect. I suspect using this in the studio I'll need to match it with mics and/or rooms that accentuate the high end and presence you're getting. IMO, the send/return loop is not very useful, in order to serve the stated purpose of using it with fuzz the footswitch should have added a loop before the buffer and not removed the buffer from the signal entirely.

    • @stoneysdead689
      @stoneysdead689 Год назад

      @@lc2858 You can design an amp or pedal so that any fuzz or wah works great in the loop. My amp is designed that way- I can run any fuzz or wah pedal I want in my fx loop- works fine. It has to be first in the loop, I can't run it behind other pedals- but I can run it in the loop. That's because my amp has a parallel loop- not a series loop. I would imagine this pedal is made the same way. That said- who knows, maybe they found another way to make it work. In reality a wah or a fuzz simply wants to see a signal that's within a certain range- that's it. It has no means of knowing what's on the other end of that cable, it just needs a signal in the acceptable range- and there are many ways to make that happen even if it is in the loop.

    19:54 Why is it "obscene," "disgusting," and "immoral" for people to spend THEIR money any way THEY want? The billions of dollars that are spent on musical gear could feed thousands of people, too, but you don't have a problem with that.

      LOL- It was a joke man, calm down. He runs a store that sells this stuff- I'm pretty sure he doesn't really see the ppl who buy it as disgusting or immoral. He's just picking at the ppl he knows are going to show up in the comments to say as much. If you want to get all pissy and upset- do it at them. It's still a waste of time but at least it's aimed at the right ppl.

      A very high quality buffer. I do own a JHS buffer that does some good things. Do you think that 1. A Buffer is worth it but 2. A high quality buffer is not worth that much?
