Hi Jess, I finally managed to make my fourth zygonisia murasaki survive for one year now. But she hasn't bloomed. I did fertilize her but no blooms as of now.
You can put media around the new bulb or you can repot and set the bulb lower in the pot. They don’t like exposed roots unless the humidity is very high.
I add some slow release fertilizer at the start of warm weather in the springtime. I don't have a set schedule or amount that I give, but a little helps it grow better.
Love seeing the blooms 🤩 took my last clip right to the wire, hoping it would bloom 😅 great video! I agree with the spotting on older leaves... when mine go inside for the summer, the spots appear and you can see all the leafless bulbs. Although all doors are open, it has less airflow indoors as opposed to what it gets now that it is outside. I will see about growing it outside come the warmer months 🤔👍🏼 thank you so much for being open to do these videos, I really appreciate it! Sporadic updates eventually 😀 have a wonderful day 🌸
Haha I should really be thanking you Nina for coming up with such a wonderful idea and letting me participate! I love how we all grow things similarly yet different and still have great plants! Not only does it show how adaptable the plants are, but how many different ways there are to orchid growing. There’s no “right” one way to do things 🤣
Haha yea! Seems like SoCal has the weather to grow Zygos outdoors. I like your video, we all have different perspectives and styles and that’s what makes it so cool and worth watching all of them 😁
I am still testing out media, but I have had success with sphagnum moss, bark with some perlite, and coco husk chips. It’s up to you and your environment which media works for you. They like to stay evenly moist. 😄
Will you please show your grow area. I also live in Southern California. I’ve been growing orchids for about two years and still learning. Thank you Amy

What causes the tips of the leaves to brown?
How do you fertilize then in each season?

Great info!
