Hi Danny. I have a zygo Austrailin HOF AM/AOS. It came from Hawaii and so packed in spaghnum that I had to use tweezers and it took hours to remove all of it and of course it had a coconut coir plug in the middle. I put it in a mix of spaghnum moss/bark/leca in a sw pot. It was great to see that we both had the right idea about how to repot it! It's been over a month and theres no leaf tip die back or anything. It's very happy in its new environment. It's under the lights and temps during the day is 68 degrees and 65-66 degrees at night. It's doing great. Rowan
I like the "complete walkthrough" style of this video. Adding in the research component made it much more interesting for me. Thanks! Happy Pi Day! 🍕🔬📐
Yes Please! Keep us posted on this project. I have a No ID Zygo and she is fussy. Lost all of her leaves after her spike bloomed out and now growing a new bulb, yay! She has spots on the leaves from water and I can deal with the cosmetics as long as she blooms for me. Her fragrance was intoxicating.
I got a Zygo the last week, and I was looking at your videos for something like this. Thank a lot! I know that you have a love/hate relationship with these guys.
I got one Zygo as an experiment to branch out a bit from Phals and Cats and it has been the most forgiving orchid I have I believe. I have more difficulty with Cats than my Zygo. It is growing very well and has 3 very large bloom spikes coming in. I’ve had this orchid for about a year now and it has done great.
Great video, Dani! I’ve had some pretty good luck growing Zygo’s in my environment with semi-hydro. I didn’t know that about the calcium though so I’ll definitely be giving that a try as well. Thanks for the videos. Hope you are well.
Good luck with your zygopetalum ! I have one for abot 9 months already. I potted imediately after purchased in semi-hydro... Luckily for me is doing good, it has a new growth that is making roots that go inside the leca ... Honestly I have no idea what I do right, but he is growing, no tip die back on the leafs... I like him soo much ! I
I repotted my new Zygonisia Cynosure 'Blue Birds' in moss and self watering and it’s doing great! Just started 3 new growths! 😳 I hope yours does well.
I have a Zygopetalum Advance Australia "HOF" AM/AOS. I bought it in 2016 and it has bloomed quite a few times since then. The prettiest orchid I have ever seen or smelled! I've never repotted it but I know it needs to be repotted because the root system is VERY pot bound. About 3 or 4 months ago it started to develop air roots! I wasn't sure if these roots developed because there was just no room for any more roots to develop inside the pot, or if it was because this plant actually has some epiphytic traits. It came potted in sphagnum moss - no bark as far as I can see. My question is this: should I try to incorporate the air roots into the potting medium when I repot it (not being sure if they are true air roots) or should I allow them to grow freely above the medium. The air roots are white with little tips of green at the end of each root. I intended to repot in a mix of bark and moss, and change from a 4" pot to a 5" pot. There are so many roots that I almost wanted to divide the plant (there are 4 healthy green pseudobulbs at this point) but I'm too afraid that I'm going to kill it if I divide it!
I recently got one of these orchids. Mine didn't come with a tag. I put it in straight spagmoss and I keep it wet. It has a new growth and an old bulb that had the leaves cut off at some point is growing a shoot out of it.
After I made the previous comment about how great my zygopetalum does in semi-hydro, I've noticed that the poor baby went down spiraling, starting rotting at the leaves'tips of the new growth and the new roots getting dark and stopped growing !... :( Damn ! I have to make an emergency repotting ! I just ordered orchiata bark from orchids deluxe and I can hardly wait for my package to arrive... I have noooo idea what just happened... He was ok for at least 6-7 months after purchase and now... :(
@@MissOrchidGirl Will you do an update after a while about how yours is doing, please ? I just tried to watch some video's from other people, but really only confusing and incomplete information out there. And I suspect some people don't even know what they are doing, just pretending to know... :/
I have some kind of geozygowhatever hybrid. It's large, the leaves have wide span and the worst thing - it grows in straight upward line and wants to walk outside the pot within two new bulbs max. It's a freaking pain in the arse. I managed to rebloom it few times - once from matured new growth and two times from quite a younv undeveloped growth. I don't get that plant. It likes to be moist but tends to kill off most of the roots after the summer so it looks shrivelled for most of the winter and early spring when it's blooming. For most of the time I just wish for the best and try to remember the extremely dark purple blooms.
Danni - Your usual great video. I am having real trouble with catts in semi hydro. Typically they dried out very quickly in my environment leading to blackening of new growth and bud blast. I tried more water ( more frequent and larger reservoir) but this seems to lead to root rot. Any suggestions? Think I should give up on semi hydro for catts? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!
Hi! 🤗 Do you have any experience with dendrochilum? Do you have wideos about it I can watch and leran some? I have been loking arond your wideos but can’t find one ☺️

How’s your vanilla orchid doing?
I have my Zygopetalum in bark and rocks.
Would you use only th3 LECA pebbles.?
