This was the first video game I ever got as a little 5yr old kid, I could never get past lvl 2 so to see you do such a great job is awesome to me, way to go Arcus!!
same here bud, grew up watching my dad playing this game and when I tried it was impossible for me...now I try and lvl 2 as well 🤣 what a nostalgic music!
sometimes i get on youtube and don’t know whether to watch michael jordan do slam dunks, marshawn lynch absolutely demolish the field, or watch Arcus just eviscerate the entire catalog of NES games. mash mash mash and clunk
Maybe I can't remember properly since its been over 25 years. But I believe I did the warp to skip the 2nd stage while I had option, shield, and Lazer then I skipped 4 as well by destroying the faces on 3rd stage. I always thought it was because I destroyed the bosses so quickly not because of a specific pattern
just for clarification, he collected power-ups until the "?" power-up is highlighted. then got the thousands digit of his score to 0 then collected another power-up to receive turbo fire. To activate the warp to stage 3, you must destroy each of the four hatches that appear on this stage when the thousands digit of your score is even. Of the four hatches, three are on the lower portion and one is on the upper portion. To activate the warp to stage 5, you must destroy 10 or more Moai statues. Use missiles to destroy bottom lying faces, and double-shot or options to destroy top lying faces so he didn't get the lazer on purpose because he doesn't need it the thing that i don't understand is that he keeps shooting when its lagging.. and this is a speed run.. won't the game run faster if he stops shooting?
Loved gradius 3 on snes. Made it my mission to beat it on hard mode when I was younger. Never got the chance to play the original though. Nice run Arcus!
You should check out Gradius 2 on the Famicom if you haven't yet, its an amazing game. We never got it in the West cuz Konami made a special cart for it and in the US, only Nintendo made the cartridges so if your game need a special mapper chip or whatever (look at the Famicom's version of Contra with the moving backgrounds, mini maps and cut scenes inbetween levels, all which need a special chip ), you were S O L. Also check out Crisis Force for Konami's mastery of the 8-Bit NES/Famicom. Amazing shooter!
I remember it took me way longer than 11 minutes and 1 life to pass this game back in the late 80s. Probably because I chose the laser option instead of the ceiling shots. Still one of my favorite plane shooting game.
Personally I've only ever made it to the 2nd level like once. These are the type of games you have to actually get good at and that requires time and motivation.
There's definitely slow down going on especially with alot of sprites on the screen. But the NES handles it well by being consistent. So its not stuttering. It'll also start alternating sprites shown per frame so that it can fit more. Which is why you see things flash occasionally when alot is going on.
Interesting that you didn't use the laser much. I use it the whole way until stage 7 when I switch to double. Also, I get over the top of the tentacles in stage 5 and use the missiles...always seemed easier. In stage 3, if you get your options angled down to the left as you go past the faces, you'll kill them and defend against the bubbles. Love this game
NES classic, Capcom . . 👍 I finished that game when it came out, when I was in highschool. Hard one to beat. & it's better than the arcade version,too.. 🤔 but a speed run ? 🏃 😀 yeah, clunk!
@@weltgeist013thomas6 i owned it. Got it right before double dragon came out. Yes its hard but not silver surfer hard. Lol. Its an easy bet that Arcus could nab a WR pretty quickly.
Arcus have you heard someone just beaten your record on Ninja Gaiden 1 NES Your time 11m 38s 067ms The new world record holder 11m 37s 833ms TheRetroRunner
I watched both retros and Arcus ninja gaiden runs and Arcus runs were much smoother at the beginning. Retros run almost resulted in a death by the leap of faith bird jump and another spot where he pressed jump and it didn't jump. So there is definitely room for improvement. Arcus, you can do it.
I remembered beating this game without ever dying once as a fifth grader. It was hard and took weeks but once I beat it, the game seems easier as I beat it again and again just to prove to my brothers that I'm that good at playing the game. My brothers had more joy watching than playing. My kids these days with their free-to-play games, the times had changed.
Destroy the 4 hatches when the 4th to the last digit of your score is even (0, 2, 6 8, etc). That's why he didn't use any power ups like missile and options in stage 1 in order to get the precise scores
Oh man, seeing arcus *not upgrading immediately* with the pickups was really getting to me, even if he knew what he was doing for this run. Still impressive to see.
Horrific to think the same thing happens when you visit the real life Easter Island.
Haha

Took me about 32 years off and on to beat this🤣

You have the focus of a laser beam and the reflexes of a panther.
The Easter Island level used to kick my butt all. The. Time.

this cowboy is very good at gradius
Love ya Arcus
Ur def the man !!! Klunk!
no konami code respect
This seems an odd genre to speedrun. In the case of this game, it seems like it's all about lag control and boss placement.
So strange seeing a speedrunner not pick up speed upgrades. I understand why, but still.
Arcus does not need the Konami code, that much is clear.
just for clarification,

I would never be able to track all this lol
The bosses make it lag

Gradius 3 was amazing.
It was bad because it had massive slow down unplayable
A lot of good clunks in this one. Nice video, Arcus.
What amazing graphics for an 8 bit game

The music in this game is awesome.
Although I agree, the classical music in Gyruss on NES beats it.

Dear Arcus Ara you the real DARYL ?
Great things from Paris ❤️
Witnessing Arcus ace Gradius makes me ask myself why I even try. 🏆
that defeatist. him doing so well should push you to do better. 🧐
Personally I've only ever made it to the 2nd level like once. These are the type of games you have to actually get good at and that requires time and motivation.
Amazing! I’d have been throwing my controller around the room. That level of chill is a sight to behold.
in all my years , i beat this game once ! once....and i am in my 40's. lol i could never beat Gradius 2 though. i tried and tried.. but nope.
I remember back in 95 I was able to do this in less than 8 minutes. Of course back then we didn't have ways to capture it.
Way faster than the snes game
U r the Legend Of Famicom 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I love how you flex by petting your cat while you play. You're awesome man.
Still amazes me an early NES game could be this hectic without much slowdown at all

It’s crazy how this and Life Force were almost exactly the same
I could do better. 😎 (uhm, couldn't * could not. I couldn't do better). 👍
It was not in fact a good clunk. Close, but no clunk cigar.
Dude you better take your ninja Gaiden record back
I don't see an Arcus Lifeforce speedrun. None?
Was this the same that said "F you" at the top when you paused it?
Show vc rem boas ablidades❤❤❤❤❤❤
Such a chill run.
What does it mean when these speedruns say any%?
I used to play this game back in the day when I was 8, but iv never seen skills like this !!
Congratulations! And... Clunk!
This game's boss music is so unfitting.
Oh man I've been wondering when you'd do gradius.
Geez I forgot about this one.

he had auto fire
Why no laser upgrade?
Sooo, does speedrunning a shooter like this amount mostly just not dying and having every shot count in a boss fight?
That's what I figured. The scrolling is pretty much fixed.
Smash smash smash like like like and clonk lol 😆👍
Reset…reset…smash..mash..aaanndd…klunk - Arcus 2021 🤠 👢 👢
Ninja gaiden guy!!!
Arcus. Why dont you challenge yourself? Try speed running Section Z.

Love this game. ♡♡♡♡♡
If you like this game I'd also recommend Lifeforce for the 8 bit nes & Vanguard for the Atari 2600.
4:26 - I've been playing this since I got my NES back in 1989 and I never knew this or the various tricks performed throughout the rest of this game.
Congratulations
this game is nuts audio/visuals for how early it was in US NES release dates.
Tito tapped!!!!!!!!!!
Arcus is a g
good clunk
oh good, so muy memories with this classic, I had cartridge with the Konami code already activated so that made easy beat the game for me

I finished it only one time when I was 15th years old. Very cool how you plaied, thank you
1:38 You forgot to back tap the asteroid.
...and the to start with code.
This is cool to watch I have been playing the arcade version on switch its super hard! Love it!

and I played this game over and over again and never get bored of it
First game I played on my flip-phone.
I never even beat this game and you killed it in under 12 minutes...
I never understood how to get the warp zones in this game It only happened to me once as a kid.... how do you get the warp zones in this game anyway?

Why isn’t he using the upgrades??
@@woody6856 he used the auto fire secret
Loved this game back in the day
Good clonk
My hero
🤠🚀🕹️ Nice job, Arcus~ The Force is definitely strong with you, my friend
Why do you only play Republican games?
