I clocked it multiple times when I was ten 1989 really cool to have a Nintendo entertainment system back then all the neighbourhood kids all at my house
Do you even have mono sound setting in your phone? That's because the NES didn't have stereo sound capabilities at the time, and the sound effects and bgm are on the same audio channel, so they could overlap or cancel the audio with each other.
I played this game so much and memorized what upgrades to get and when to get that it's just so weird seeing a Speedrun where the first option is only obtained at stage 3. I found this Speedrun to be very impressive
My favorite memory with this game is using the second controller to drive my friend nuts. It was his first time playing and both controllers worked for some reason. So when he played I held in the B button on the 2nd controller without him knowing. It just kept giving him speed ups! By the cave on the first level the ship was uncontrollable. So I said, "Here... Let me play" and it worked normal for me. So I said, "See how it's done?" Then he'd play again and hold in the B button on the other controller. Him: 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 Me: 😂😂😂😂🤓
I've beaten both games. This is way easier than Ghosts 'n Goblins tbh. The approach you have to take is completely different though. This is basically impossible to beaten unless you do the whole thing without dying, whereas GnG you will die over and over and over on the same parts, but there is fairly frequent checkpoints, more so earlier on. I will say you kind of have to master Gradius to beat it where you don't really with GnG. But imo the only really tough part of Gradius is the third stage. If you beat the third stage and you keep renewing your shield you have a good chance of winning. I beat the game the second time I got past stage 3.
If anyone owns this game and can't beat it, try pausing the game putting in the code: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A. This will give you overpowered powerups. Don't believe me, try it out
@@jakepinsky6957 On Gradius NES it is powerups (both options, shields, missiles.) It doesn't give you speed up or laser/double shot, but those are easy to acquire. Lifeforce and Contra give you the 30 extra lives. Fun fact: Gradius III on SNES, the normal Konami code self destructs your ship. To get the powerups, use the left and right triggers instead of the D-pad for left and right. 30 lives is a different code.
0:39 That soundtrack made feel happy when I was a kid and played this game :) At 1:42 you knew something bad was coming ‘cause of the sudden fade-out :’)
Yes , it's a warp that skip the level 2, you get it by killing the 4 hatches on level 1 while the thousand digit points is even. You can also skip level 4 by destroying 10 Moai heads on level 3.
Nice run. I played it about the same as you switching to the double for the last stage and "refreshing" my shield from time to time. I remember being so disappointment that the stupid brain did nothing. Great game and super easy imo but the "bosses" were terrible.
7:48 I’m pretty sure that there is an enemy bullet hitting in the middle section of the ship twice and it survived... (You can play at 0.25x speed and verify yourself)... May be the player was using some invincibility cheat code like Game Genies?
You see the blue shields in front of the ship? well it absorb damage , 5 hits if I remember it right, I got hit plenty of time during this run, but each time I had the shields on.
Why aren’t these companies that owned the IP for these great games like this or contra, megaman and other old school games don’t make a new games for new consoles? And I don’t mean “remake” no I mean new games are they that lazy to make them or not enough money to make off these games?
Totally different story lines. If you are to compare Lifeforce with anything, it should be Salamander. As one works with accumulating powerups and manually selecting an upgrade VS the other that has the upgrade floating around and you deciding if you want to pick it up or not.
Well, This doesn't help too much, as I did this on the playchoice 10 version (which I think is based on the Japanese version of the game, but here's what they say for the first 8 loops in that one. After the word, it says Let's Go Next Zone every time, so I'll omit that. 1. Kangeki! 2. Omigoto! 3. Nikui Nikui! 4. Antawa Sugoi! 5. Miagetamonda! 6. Iukotonaine! (on this loop, when I was awarded my bonus 100k, the line under the 100k had a random stray M by itself that appeared) 7. Iukotonaine! (no stray M this time) 8. Iukotonaine! (no stray M here either) so it looks like in total, there are 6 unique words in the Japanese version.
Ok I gotcha...I guess growing up on this game or any other NES game we didn’t consider it cheating...I’m ready to hook my NES up cause you just showed me so many secrets
Well it's true that this is auto scrolling game so the time that you can save is minimal, but there is some, like killing the bosses the fastest way possible or by reducing lag by not taking all the options upgrades. There is also two warps you can take to skip 2 levels.
this game gradius only seven levels on it and then you beat the game and then they would make you play the game again and then the game gets harder and harder and harder with just that one hard difficulty.
Last two bosses self-destruct, shots aren't necessary. In fact, all the bosses self-destruct if you wait long enough (something like 20-30 seconds). At least Gradius 2 for famicom they had you attack the support cables, and the boss actually fought back a little. Wasn't super hard, but it was something. Lifeforce's final boss is also really easy once you kill the snake/salamander guarding it. The escape sequence after is actually tougher.
Is there a speed-running reason for not picking up power-ups early on? Noticed you went thru a full rotation on the powrr-up scale before picking up the barrier the 2nd time through... as the first thing claimed...
Yes, at 0:30 I get Rapid fire, which is a secret upgrade you can get at 10 000pts (or when the thousand digit is 0) then you can press and hold A to Rapide fire!
The real ending is the friends you made along the way. Joke aside, the game doesn't have a last boss, you get to the brain and... thats it! you doesn't even have to hit it, lol.
