This is actually a sad song. It’s at the end of the movie which is about life in Germany just prior to WWII with Hitler rearinghis ugly head. Happiness could be found in the Cabaret. Liza’s character had just been thru hell. Of course lives would never be the same …

The song is not happy. It's about complacency in the face of the rising facism of the viemar Republic.

It's more an ironic scream against the self destructive collapse of Sally's own personal life, while still having to sing about how life is a cabaret. Sally didn't give two hoots against the rise of the Nazis. The musical as a whole is exactly about the rise of the Nazis however, but this particular song isn't. At this point in the musical she's just decided to abort the baby she's carrying and split up with the one man who was most likely to be good for her.

I think you’re reviewing the wrong song. I like Mien Herr way better. But the entire movie is great.

Knew you'd love this one, Inika. Bob Fosse certainly knew how to make Liza shine. My personal favorite number is the iconic "Money Makes The World Go Around" with Joel Gray. A charming comedic number that definitely harkens back to vaudeville. Always look forward to your next video!
