many years ago i put together a rc 1/16 king tiger kit. spent the time putting on a zimmermitt coating. as with the original king tiger the transmission was shit. it had two friction clutches that wore out very quickly. in another video i see they split the system with direct drive for each. suspension was a arduous task but, ran well with no problems. went together very well.
I think I need one of these now! BTW, both turrets were made by Krupp, the one called the Porsche turret is the pre-production one and the one called the Henschel turret was the production version.
The "porsche turret" was made by krupp and was meant to be fitted onto the porsche's king tiger hull design but since it got rejected "again" the turrets where fitted onto the henschel hulls.
Buy the 2.4ghz, the motors seem to run more realistic speed. Best part of these models is to repaint and mod them. As i have little patience these days for gluing lots of parts together. Painting and weathering the best part.

Looking on this RC tanks and for a budget side of things Heng Long ones are the way to go, tho I don't really know if I should go for IR ones or Airsoft ones, both seems great to play on. I guess I need to spend some time for each style to see what I like most. You said you will start paying more attention to paint job and you will do some weathering and some styling on it, did you made a video about it as I can't find it. Also you said you will make one for the jag...sorry if you made them but at this hour I just can't find them anymore. Also, why aren't you covering more tanks? You alone said that the channel is called RC Tanks & Trucks as you love tanks but all I see are some RC cars all the way and hardly some tanks around. Thanks for all the work you put into this videos, but it will be nice if you also say how reliable are the ones from Heng Long :)
A remark about "weathering" a King Tiger. These beasts were in operaration for a very short time(very late in the war) and had a very limited mileage (fuel consumption ans fuel shortages). Most distance was traveled on railway cars. So they had no chance to get very weathered (time or mileage). My guess is that most of them wou;ld have looked "brandnew". In fact the right color might have been the "factory finish" yellow/beige base paint. There's a museum (I forget which one) that changed their King Tiger into the original factory finish yellow/beige base paint for that reason.
@@RCTanksTrucks247 Most of these pictures might have been taken AFTER they were severely damaged, that means exploded and burned, so the protective coating had gone. If you leave unprotected steel out in winter weather for a short time, it will not look nice. You can try that on your car 😉. The germans by 1944/45 didn't have the film available to make many movies/pictures, so most available pictures/movies will be Allied pictures AFTER the destruction of the King Tigers. It's easy to spot if you see a "sagging suspension", thjat means the Tank had been lit on fire and the torsion bar steel was degraded.
Great review as usual! I do have one question when it comes to the cartoonish amount of recoil this tank (as well as the Tiger 1) has built in, is there a way to either get rid of it all together or at the very least lessen it so it doesn't look like the tank just let loose with an 88mm sneeze?
When you have metal and plastic gears working together you mind as well just get an all metal gear box and motor assembly update because the metal gears on the motors will wear out the plastic gears very quickly.
The plastic pellet fire, if it hit you close can even sting. The pellets are so small and travel so fast you can hardly see them fly. My living room rug is full of the yellow pellet. My brother and I both have Heng LONg tanks.
ok thanks i was wanting to convert one to a Maus with my 3d printer and was wondering which would be the best tank to buy and convert, again thank you.
Generally you can get metal tracks and drive wheels. Metal barrel and upgraded gearbox's. Other manufacturers like Taigen and Torro and interchangeable as well.
Keep your eyes open on ebay, sometimes for 180 they'll come with the upgraded metal gears and tracks. My only gripe is the "Henschel" style turret is superior to the "porsche", and the camo job while decent just doesn't suit my fancy for the King
@Mark Novak They do though. I have multiple tanks that are Heng Longs, and honestly aside from the track recoil, I like them more than the Torros and Taigens I have. Heng Long has come a long way since they first released. The new 2.4 mk5 system is pretty danged nice too

Hello everybody. About a week I have Heng Long King Tiger tank 1/16. BUT The proportional forward and backward is not working properly. At slow speed left side is faster that right side. At full speed the tank is turn a little in the left side... is that a problem with receiver or transmitter? Tanks a lot.
The only other thing I can think of is possibly your ESC needs to be reprogrammed. I do not know what kind of ESC Heng Long uses of if a programming card is available for them.
You might want to check your rear idler wheels my right one was jammed and caused my tank to veer to the right so I had to loosen it a bit and now it runs straight and smooth
I have a far older model of this.. lets just say there are a lot of problems.. mine was made in 2013, June 27th.. Have the zinc gears, and well one side was riveted improperly, so the right track constantly jams and does not function very well...
Is the piston pump running? Sometimes if you put too much smoke it weighs the heated wick down which generates the smoke which results in the pump running but no smoke coming out. I usually flip the smoke unit on its back to drain the excess smoke fluid out and to help bring the heated wick back up. I generally prefer using the Taigen smoke units over the Heng Long one. The TARR smoke unit is also highly recommended since it's even more reliable and quieter than the Taigen or Heng Long smoke units

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by piston pump. I opened the tank up, and when I turned the smoker on, a little white plastic piece which was connected to a metal rod started moving in a circular motion.
Does your smoke unit have a little black cylinder that the white plastic piece goes into? Is the smoke oil stored in the cylinder? I've noticed on the side of the cylinder there is some glue. Is it possible that if I remove that glue, the smoke oil will drain ?

Sargeant Cookie actually there are records that say that the tiger 1 and I think tiger 2 were just as reliable as the panzer 4. The problem was finding parts for them since the supply chain was fucked by too many things needed and limited resources/air attack
